Hey,
Okay here is what I consider Punk: Fall Out Boy, Green Day, The Offspring, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, Hawthorne Heights, Nirvana and stuff like that. Indie is (what I consider) All American Rejects, Meg&Dia, Switchfoot, Relient K, stuff like that. So what bands do you consider to be whatever genre? Please let me know. Thanx!XD

None of that is really punk.

Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy are considered Emo pop or Alternitive.
My Chemical Romance is alternitive.
Hawthorne heights is also alternitive.
Although, I'm not sure about The Offspring...

The All American Rejects are certainly NOT indie! They're pop rock all the way.
Relient K is alternitive.
And I'm not sure of the others.

The term indie is short for "independent" and refers to artistic creations outside the commercial mainstream, without the support of a major record label, major movie studio, or other source of a large budget.

Humm, would 'Bright Eyes' be indie? And what about 'The Fratellis'?

Punk is like NOFX, Rancid, Anti Flag, Rise Against, H2O , Bouncing Souls, and Alkaline Trio.

Indie...hmm...I'm not sure.

I think bands like Death Cab for Cutie, The Fray and Early November are indie. I think indie is like acoustic and hippie-ish. Punk would be The Ramones, Green Day, The Doors. You know? Old school stuff like that. The newer bands fall into screamo, heavy metal, and things like that. Punk is a very mixed idea.

In my opinion, indie would be bands like Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire, Tapes 'n' Tapes. etc. Indie is less of a specific genre. It's what Gothanimedollfreak was saying.

I don't really think Death Cab and The Fray are very hippie. And I don't really think of The Fray as particularly indie. Death Cab, yes, but they're still not hippie.

I never really understood what "indie" is... I have even heard that The Cure are indie!!!! I mean... come on!
The Ramones can be concidered punk so can Green Day but The Doors definately NOT!!!!!!! Doors have a strange sound but they are (classic) rock and that sound has nothing to do with punk!...

Oh! And twilightqueen Nirvana are not punk (but you may say that they have a semi-punk sound in some songs...)

psh. I agree quite sincerely. I can't even begin to understand what made them say that in the first place. No. They are not hippie music at ALL!

While stuff like Metallica is more hard rock. But Green Day is more Indie-Punk. The Doors is something like Semi-Hard Rock. Well that's my opinion. Hey I haven't heard from you in a while Dark_Angel_t.

Indie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_%28music%29) (ie: Most bands unsigned to a major record label, nad not extremly popular like Green Day)

Punk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_rock) (ie: The Ramones, The Clash, and The S.e.x Pistols.)

And is case anyone was still confused about what "Hippie" music is, try looking up Jam bands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_bands). Or try this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippie).

do not confuse anonymity with punk.

Indeed. While a lot of today's true punk bands are more anonymous, that's not what it means to be punk. (I'm sure that the original poster (Death-Soldier) understands this, I'm just not too sure about a lot of the people on this thread.)
