Well, since this topic has been sparked...why not have a discussion about it?
I forgot the exact bill that allows mustangs to be killed...and the exact wording, etc. I'll research it again in a minute; wanted to get the thread started first.
There are rules, though. Keep jokes about this to yourself. You're free to express your views, but please - don't put others down for what they say. Don't be shy to speak up; if there's a topic that's been bothering you, say it! And please...listen. Don't assume things about other people, either. And try to keep an open mind (That goes for all of us :) ).

"Pets turned loose when the family goes away on holiday, unwanted puppies or kittens placed in sacks and dumped on motorways or in ponds and rivers, animals starved or beaten for no reason - all these form part of the sickening list of cases.
Whereas some animals may be starved to death, another form of cruelty is over-feeding. Of course, the people who stuff their pets full of all the wrong foods (sweets, chocolate, cakes etc.) do this out of kindness - and yet the end result is cruelty in that the animal becomes overweight and suffers diseases which humans who overeat suffer.
Pets given to young children who have no idea how to care for them must be regarded as another form of unintentional cruelty.
Children who are so keen on their pets at first - but then leave them in dirty cages for weeks at a time and feed them only when they remember are also just as guilty as those who deliberately treat their animals badly. We must encourage laws governing the selling and looking after of pet animals.
In the end it all depends upon the education of young people in matters relating to their own environment and the living creatures who share this planet with us.
If we can encourage young people to respect this world and all its wonderful natural resources - then we might have the opportunity of saving at least some of the endangered species and wild places for the benefit of those who follow us."

Animas should be treat with respect. They were on this earth before us, yet we seem to have gained control over them.

1.) The bill...HR4818. I think it's been nullified by HR 297 right now...but I haven't been as avid in my research lately and I've forgotten.
2.) Animal slaughter...is wrong. Just plain wrong. Enough said there.
3.) Animal abuse...is also wrong. I used to watch Animal Precinct, Animal Cops Houston...etc. I had to quit watching. I couldn't stand seeing the animals in pain with their former owners...who often neglected them, or beat them...you get the picture.
And yes, we won't name any names.

Need I direct you to the first post? I know I said no putting down...but it's in the 'rules' in the last paragraph. I thank you, however, for actually stating that it was a joke this time. You're welcome to comment here, as long as you keep jokes to yourself, okay?

i wonder what dog tastes like?
I'm going to take this as an honest question...
Honestly, I think dog would probably taste pretty gross. Their diet is pretty much the same as a human's...but I wouldn't want to eat a fellow human being either.

i don't know, how would i know unless i try it.
why would i want to eat a dog? that you think i would is disturbing. some places do eat dogs, but i would not.
probably the most strange thing i've ever eaten is swordfish, or deer. both of which were nice.
no, i'm not a vegitarian, and you'll never make me one. i don't really eat meat, cause i don't like it, but if i did id'eat lots of it.
animals should have rights. why? not because they're the same as hyuman being or they're god's creatures or any of that shiz. it's cause i can't sleep knowing that somthing is suffering becuase of somthing i did.
that's not a joke. i'm not passionate about animal rights, i don't actively campang for it. i don't really like cats, i find them too lazy, there's only been a few i've ever liked. i prefer dogs.
so chill out, and relax. take deep breaths and look up the defenition of "sarcasam".
that is all.

I know what sarcasm is...and thanks for being serious. I can understand if you think I'm a terrible prick or anything like that...but what you said really angered me. And it angered me even more when I found out you took it from a movie and, in context, it was a joke. But I'm over it now; sorry for what I said. Guess I shouldn't have taken it too literally. ~.^

Amen.
Oh crud...can't believe we forgot the fishes! They're being caught, cut up, and eaten every day...and shrimp...and lobsters and crabs...etc.
It's just so wrong...I understand; it's for human nourishment. It's just like killing plants to eat them. Guess we can't survive without killing something...and damn I just noticed that.
nineteen
06-01-2007, 05:49 PM
some people would not survive if they ate only plants. that's a fact.
many vegitarians need to take protein suppliments, and ALL veggies need to be careful what they eat. so let's clear that up first. all mean privides protein, fish provides fish oils which are amazingly good for (or so my TV tells me)
eating animals is a way of life. people never used to be vegitarains in the stone age, they ate to survive. now we have the luxaury of picking what we eat, and being able to survive only on vegitbles because we understand our bodies so well.
how well kill them is important, how they live is important. but i know a lot of farmers, and they all hate animals. why? cause if you got attached you'd hate your job. they encourage thier children to stay away from the animals that will be killed as well.
it is my belief that nothing should suffer, but there you go. people are suffering right now, so are animals. what you gonna do?
as ghandi said; "you must be the change you wish to see in the world."
no-one wants to die in pain.

"No one wants to die in pain."
How true. And yet, animals are every day. They're being killed for their fur, teeth...the list goes on. Not just for meat. It's sheerly ridiculus that something wrought from a creature's loss of life has become a luxury.
And, as I've said before, I understand that animals must die for our nourishment. It's just that...do they really have to suffer while they're alive? I know that most animals that go towards consumption really don't suffer, but some do.
And we're not talking about just animals used for consumption. Pets! They suffer and die every day in pain and anguish. Why? Because there are people in this world who have sunk so low that they feel they must abuse animals to rise higher...it's disgusting.

what are you going to do?
there's nothing you can do. PEOPLE die in pain every day.
every few seconds someone makes a joke about an animal dying in pain!
there is no debate, no discuassion, the fact is: it happens. and it won't be stopped eaisly.
this thred can't go anywhere, people will just point aout more curelty and we'll all go "aww that's a shame" but we achive nothing!
the very fact that you started this thread because on my joke is, in itself, a joke.
there is nothing more to say, than what you have already said.

I get your point; we alone can do nothing. BUT, if we united, sent letters to the government, etc...then we might get somewhere. It's just like a campaign to get a cancelled TV show back on the air...if you do it alone, chances are you're not going to be taken seriously.
You see, I started this thread because I wanted people to think about animal cruelty. About what's happening to animals these days. It would be nice to do something about it, but I know that that probably won't happen. I understand if you would like to exit the discussion, but I'm going to request that this remain open so that all who wish to comment can.

Animal abuse is wrong. Animal slaughter is wrong. Killing animals for food is wrong. I understand that. But:
Am I going to stop eating meat?:
No, because I need food just like your pet needs food. Just like the rest of the world needs food. Meat is something that we need. Some of you may say, "But other animals can do it!" Well, you know what? We're not meant to be herbivores. Are stomachs are not made like a cows (sorry, bad reference, first thing that came to my mind.) We need the protein in the meat to give us fuel to keep us going. Although, some of us could use some more vegetables in our diets. (Sorry, entirely new topic there.)
Are hunters / butchers heartless people?:
Nope, they aren't. I'm not going to speak for every one of them but most hunters hunt because they need food. We need food. Someone has to do it. Butchers? No, because someone must cut up the food as well. Once again, it's them or us. It seems much easier for all you animal-rights activists to let them cut the meat.
How can you say that when you've seen how they slaughter animals?:
Well, yes, there was a video on Dollwizard at one time and I've seen how they slaughtered cattle in some place in Texas. It was horrible, yes, but I'm not going to stop eating my steak. Or burgers. Or any meat. They could've have done it much cleaner, if you ask me but if they did it any other way it seems it would ruin the meat. Lethal injection? Oh, then when you eat your food at dinner you'd die as well. Natural death? Use your common sense. (And the guy who kicked the blood in the one cattle's face was just a dick.)
Am I anti- vegitarian?:
Yes and no. I don't really like that people feel they should eat only vegetables, fruits and other non-meat / animal products. (I know there are special cases in which people must and I'm fine with that.) No because I don't really care if you're a vegetarian, feel free to go about your day.
I'm not pro-slaughter-the-animals but this is how I feel on different subjects brought up on Dollwizard (or in the world) that relate to animal rights / abuse.

eh i get plenty of protein without eating meat :P its artifially flayvored mean but its really soybean which has lots of protein in it:D lol
some ppl say that animal brains are so small they cant feel pain or w.e... thats total bull**** pain is merely a reflex to survive... if it didnt have that reflex it could have been eatin alive and they dont no that
eh btw in this era of time there has been more extinctions then any era below ours >_> eh for some reson i never show sympthy for people >_> unno why but i show sympathy for animals O_o

I literally grew up with dogs and cats in my life, and for a while Dad and I owned horses, and it breaks my heart every time I hear stories of cruelty and neglect, especially about breeding mills, overcrowded shelters, and people who refuse to spay and neuter.
I do not condone cruelty to animals. In fact, I'd love it of those who deliberately mistreat animals should get a dose of what it's like to suffer without being able to say a word about it or fight back. But then, that's criminal, and I'm trying to stop feeling hate, so I try to have faith that karma will nail those b-----ds eventually.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I would prefer it if my sources of eggs, chicken, dairy and beef were treated gently and allowed to be animals while living. There's no way of knowing what happened to my food before I eat it, however, so I soothe my conscience by reading e-mails from the Humane Society and signing petitions, and boycotting companies that sell things like animal fighting merchandise, such as Amazon.com. Every little bit helps.

Now I also agree with most of your Opinion. I too am not going to stop eating meat. I mean I don't think I'd just want to eat vegetables and beans all my life. When my step-dad was a vegetarian, we only ate that and I didn't like it. He eats meat now though. About hunters though, I think it's wrong to hunt. Although my boyfriend hunts with his step-dad, I don't agree with it, but who am I to say to him Stop Hunting. I don't control him. Just love him. But I somewhat agree with your opinions.
