I like that choice. With some careful arranging, you can make that look wonderfully creepy. :) Hm, seen some good creepy-china-doll make-up jobs out there. I need to try to remember just how they did it....

I wish I could find the dress in black.
I think that if I get the dress from the store,i'll dye the light blue black and then wear the apron that comes with it :]
Then,I will draw lines on my mouth and wear red and black makeup. Then,I will attatch strings to cuffs I am going to wear and attatch the strings to a wooden cross :]
Then!I will make my taller friend be my puppet master xD

Well, once you have a budget in mind, I can make a couple recommendations. One, I can pretty much guarantee will be too expensive; it's too costly for me right now, too. But I know of a shop and an eBay store with good prices; I myself ordered a dress from the latter last month, though it's not in yet. I'm really hoping it gets here by Halloween. I want to wear it to work then, if I can get away with it. :)

10-09-2007, 03:23 AM
I found it Guen!
On Ebay!
It is a bidder one.
The bid ends 12th
One person had bidded $13
I will bid tomorrow!
But It is exactly like a Alice dress!
Just in blue, but I am going to see if it can be made in black!
The dress will be ajusted to your measurment size :D

Personally, though, I'd actually like to be Schneewittchen {Snow White}, just from the Grimm's version of the tale. ^^ Though, I know I'm not going to be able to dress up it's a nice idea.

Hey, I was checking that one out! It's so pretty. :) And they specifically say at one point the different colors the dress can be made in. Black is one of them. I think you just have to specify when you pay, along with your measurements. You ought to wear it with chunky Mary Janes and striped tights. Here's the dress/blouse set that I ordered, last month:

Unfortunately. I left it in her classroom one day, then two days later when I came back {We have a funky schedule} it wasn't there and she said she hadn't found it. She still hasn't, so I think I'm going to have to pay her because I agreed that if I lost it I would owe her 20$.

I would, but I only own one dress, and my mother would kill me if I messed it up. I don't have many other clothes I could tear up, either, or 'decorate'...

Perhaps, but I'd half to look. I live in a somewhat small town so don't really have many thrift stores I don't think; I know we have quite a few antique stores for certain, but that's about it.

Starry: I know, but if I sew something onto a shirt my mother considers still good and can't get it off without ripping, ect. she saws I've torn it up.

Yesh, :] I just saw that. I would really love to get it. *Tries to think up a plan to raise some money* Maybe Nonny'll ask me to babysit this weekend....
I'm just afraid of how high the price will get in the bidding--I mean, c'mon, the shipping is already 28 dollars and will go to 40 if you want it delievered UPS Ground--and how long it'll take. I know it says 10-14 business days, but I would actually want to wear it on Halloween. To get it shipped in 3-5 business days, as I said, is 40$.

But I really really do like it....

Curly-ish. I can't straighten it worth a damn, but it's not like perm-curly. Some might just call it wavy with a bit of curl at the end.

Guendolen_Sama
10-10-2007, 02:40 AM
Ah, you're drooling over one of my favorite designs. Good choice. ;) As for accessories.... Well, in regards to shoes, anything akin to a Mary Jane, ballerina flat- maybe with a bow on the toe- or a Victorian-esque boot, like a "granny" boot, would look good. A lot of Lolitas favor platforms and heavy thick soles, but they're not absolutely required. Basically, something that is either pretty and ladylike or Gothic without being punk or industrial. In regards to hair, you have several options. Just be sure it matches your dress!
Now, headgear. As Starry said, you can do the headband, either a plain one or the be-ribboned almost maid-cap-like ones. If you don't think you can pull off one of those, you might consider trying an in-between; a headband with a bow attached. It can be any size and location, really. The most common variation is a big floppy one perched right on top of your head, but I've seen smaller ones and ones angled to the side and so forth. It'd be pretty easy to make; just get a nice headband, a stretch of ribbon, and tie the ribbon on the headband in a bow in the shape you want. You could also try to attach a false flower to a headband, with or without a ribbon. You can use little combs or barrettes with bows, ribbons, flowers, etc. You could wear a top hat. Tiny top hats attached to ribbons or headbands (only way to get it to sit on the head) are popular, but you have to get them from Lolita shops. That's the sort of headpiece I have, and I quite like it. :) You could wear a straw hat, though that would probably look better with a short-sleeved "sweet" (i.e. cute and frilly and pastel) Lolita dress. You could wear a little tiara or crown. Let me think and see if I can dream up any further options for you.
As for cleaning, it says the dresses must be hand-washed or dry-cleaned. No wringing or twisting the fabric. Oh, and guys, don't forget to order petticoats! That's what makes the skirt poof out. Me, I'm going to see if I can find an alternate means of improvising one until I can order one.

I still want: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Gothic-Lolita-tiered-Junoesque-black-dress_W0QQitemZ160165008057QQihZ006QQcategoryZ6386 1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting You know, the awesome-tastic one~~ ^^ I just can't think of any shoes I have that would work with it.

I have a tiara-ish thing I want to wear, though I would love a top hat.

As for my hair, I've decided that I am going to go with curling it in ringlets around my face, sort of like older glass dolls. ^^

I would also like to get a parasol to go with it as well. What do you guys think?

As for the dress situation:...T.T My mother said no. She said that it's too expensive and that I should just make my own dress...
BUT, there is hope for me~ My brother has suddenly been possessed by really really nice demons or something, and has decided he will buy it for me as long as it doesn't go above 50$. *Squee's like fangirl* :D

Petticoat: I'm looking for one that would match it, but I'm having a little trouble. Dx Anyone willing to help? Or has anyone found a way to DIY?

And thanks for telling me the about the cleaning.

Shoes: I'm think of 'stealing' my friend's boots to wear. They're a bit like 'granny' boots--they only go, like, just past the ankle--but they zip up and have a fake buckle on the side. And they're black. <3

Okay, ringlets around your face would be perfect. A LOT of Gothic Lolitas wear their hair in that style. The little tiara would be good, as well; I hope you can find it. As for petticoats, the business we're discussing here has one; it's described as an organza skirt, if I remember correctly. I know of a couple other sites that carry them, as well. Though you could also try to find some full skirt with tulle under it, like in a thrift store or whatever, and use that. Some girls also wear square dancing petticoats, to get the right sort of poof. Not sure where to get one of those. As for matching, I'd recommend just getting basic white. You don't want it to protrude, just add volume to the skirt itself. So get a plain white that'll go with anything you wear it under.

I have a tiara-ish thing I want to wear, though I would love a top hat.

10-10-2007, 10:38 PM
A parasol? Great idea. That's another very popular accessory in the look. I plan to get one myself at some point, in fact. :) You'll want one without any design on it unless it looks either Victorian or Gothy; perhaps with lace trim (or all made of lace, if you can find one that will coordinate), or with ruffling around the edge or something. Make sure it matches the dress, too. :)

Yay~ And I figured as much, so I looked one up the other night. This was the cheapest one I could find:

On eBay, anyway. I don't know where else to look for these types of things. ^^; What do you think?

I like it! ^_^ It's very pretty, and if it matches the discription, and is homemade, it would add a nice touch, I think.

Guendolen_Sama
10-10-2007, 10:57 PM
Pretty. That would work very nicely. :) I've had some difficulty in parasol searches, myself. I know you can get them from brand sites, but those can be more expensive. Though have a look here:
http://www.metamorphose.gr.jp/english/index.html
I don't know what your price range is, but you can get a parasol here for, oh, about sixteen or so bucks and change, once you convert the yen. The shipping will be pretty expensive, though. Just as a warning. But at least you can look.... Get an idea of the style. Umbrellas and parasols are found under "Miscellaneous."

scorpio grl
10-10-2007, 11:21 PM
Thanks, and I looked. They're very nice. ^^ And my price range is: as low as it can possibly get.

I like the black and silver one; it's 17.0711 U.S. dollars' wise. {I'm guessing we round up with that?}

What's the shipping fee? Meaning: How many years of my life am I going to have to sell in order to pay it?

Guendolen_Sama
10-10-2007, 11:28 PM
Your price range sounds like mine. ;) Thing is, when it comes to Gothic Lolita, you can expect to spend.... It's not a cheap hobby. In Japan, a full outfit, with clothes, accessories, etc. can cost as much as a thousand dollars. I'm serious. I don't know the shipping fees off the top of my head for this one. But I do know that in August, I ordered a tote bag from them. The price converted to sixteen and some change. The shipping was actually slightly higher than that amount. Mind you, I got the item within four days of ordering it, so the delivery speed was great and reliable. But it's coming all the way from Japan, so it'll cost you, sadly....

I do like the idea of getting the item quickly, but I cannot spend much more money. I don't even think I'll get the dress...
Anywho, thanks for the linky. I'll try to see if I can find their shipping costs.

Guendolen_Sama
10-10-2007, 11:56 PM
You're welcome! Yup, it's a ridiculously expensive hobby. Better in the U.S., but not by too much. Especially if you buy brand. I can't, except for accessories, because of my size- heck, I can't even wear brand tall socks, or at least I assume I can't, as even normal American knee socks don't go all the way up my big calves. Japanese sizes are smaller, so I'm assuming they won't fit. I know the clothes won't. I don't believe they have a uniform shipping cost listed anywhere, though. I didn't find out what it was until after I'd ordered. If I'd known, I'd have gotten a couple other items while I was at it, to bundle costs. Good luck finding stuff, though!

*Dances* I think I might actually get it! Whootishness~

Wow, I'm sorry. Have you tried finding a larger size? I know how you feel. I'm a pretty big girl as well and have to get larger clothes than girls my age. It's especially embarrassing in gym, ect.

Thanks again. You've been a great help, especially in showing me the dress. ^^

OH: I did want to be a gothic or sweet lolita, but according to my mother,

"The sweet lolitas are the one on crack and gothic on cociane."

and my dad thinks the dresses make them look trashy.

One o' my friend's sister was a sweet Lolita for halloween last year...and she was 11!

You're welcome! I'm glad I've been able to help. And yes, I have looked for larger sizes. It hasn't worked yet. My calves are a whopping twenty inches at their fullest point, see. It's all muscle, but it's still pretty big. Though yes, finding quirky and interesting attire is hard for us full-figured types, isn't it?

*Dances* I think I might actually get it! Whootishness~

Okay, I don't even understand either of your parents' perspectives, there. The Gothic Lolita culture has nothing to do with drugs, for one thing. So saying they're all on crack is a gross misapprehension. And how can they look trashy when the whole point of the look is to be demure, ladylike, and classy? I think they're somehow lumping Gothic Lolita in with Goth; with some of those clothes, I could see how someone might think that. I'll have to see if I can find some information to share that might give them a better idea.... I see no problem with an eleven year old wearing a Sweet Lolita dress, myself. I mean, a lot of Sweet Lolitas deliberately seek to emulate the "little girl" look. She's already got a head start, due to being younger! In fact, I think a girl that age would look really cute, in one of those dresses. But that's me.

I dunno what i want to be...

Wow. I'm simply big, not muscled. ^^;; I'm weak; though, I am quite proud of myself for being able to climb that rock wall the other day. :D

Yes, it is. Dx Most clothes, I believe, are made for stick-figured little women who don't eat.

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 01:01 AM
I'm both. I do Tae Kwon Do, so I have strongly developed legs from all the kicking. My calves are solid. Everything else is squashy. :P I hear you on the clothes thing. It's been proven sizes are being made steadily smaller as time passes, too. Women are pigeonholed. It's even harder at my age. Everything available in my size seems to be designed for old ladies and forty year old soccer moms. :P This is why I need to go back to school for fashion design.... I'd love to make a go at changing some of that. Including designing Gothic Lolita fashions, of course. Which, admittedly, I already do. :)

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 01:13 AM
Ah, well, I'm simply just squishy~ ^^ Lol But it's really cool that you do Tae Kwon Do. You obviously can defend yourself easily; the only way I can is either glare--which scares a lot of people for some reason..--or threaten to squish-ed them. XD

I feel you. Man, I sometimes wish to go be to 'Ye Olden Days' where if a girl was bigger she was more wanted; it meant she had money and was well-fed, damnit. >< Now being a bit bigger is a bad thing!

I would love to see that happen! And of course, me being your friend, I'd get plenty of discounts, right? ;);) Lol

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 01:18 AM
I've had much the same though, to be honest. I'd love to still have the aesthetic from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Full-figured was desirable, in those days. Nowadays, they want a toothpick with watermelons stuck to the front. :P I think I could maybe see my way clear to offering discounts to friends, yes.... ;) If it should ever happen. And hey, maybe you could try martial arts sometime. You don't have to athletic to do it. I'm inept, when it comes to sports. Yet I do that one thing well. You never know.... I'm a huge advocate of self-defense training, though, so I'll just stop right here, before I totally derail.

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 01:30 AM
Exactly! It's absolutely ridiculous. And if we complain, most people will just say "Oh, well, you're just saying that because you're bigger," or "You're just jealous". It's utterly crackers!

Lol Who knows. Maybe I could model 'em, too~ XDD J/k, j/k

And maybe. If someone else game me the money to pay for them, sure, because I know I can't afford them now. Besides, I'm very clumsy. ^^;;; The floor and other inanimate objects like to bite me for some reason..
*Laughs*

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 01:34 AM
What gets me is the people who have the notion that because you're bigger, you must be a compulsively snacking couch potato. The ones who are like, "God, just go on a diet!" Sometimes it's not that simple. I mean, I work out. Martial arts is not easy, and I work hard when I train. I'm pretty strong and healthy. But... bulky. It sticks around no matter what I do. Sometimes there are extenuating factors, like metabolism, build (I've got big bones and a stocky frame), possible other problems like thyroid issues, etc. And hey, if I ever get to do the boutique thing, I definitely want some full-figured models! That'd be great. My ideal is to have models of all different shapes and sizes. Heavy, skinny, short, tall.... Run the gamut. Complete clothing equality is what I'm after. :)

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 01:41 AM
Oh yes, I completely agree. I may not work out that much, but I do not sit around eating every minute of the day. I find it simply infuriating that people act like that. I have big bones, too, and am fairly tall--about 5'7, 5'8 or so. I can't really help that I'm a bit large.
And besides, they've proven that there's a gene that controls your metabolism or something along those lines. Some people don't have enough of them, so they can't help it.

*Laughs* I love that idea, but I doubt I'd be a good model. ^^;

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 01:51 AM
You're lucky. I'm only about five foot two or so. So everything looks bulkier than it already is, because there's less distribution area. :P But I remember a number of years ago, I was taking a healthiness quiz online. One of the questions was about how much exercise you get. At first it was a lot, medium, etc. But the last one, instead of saying little to none, read "The only exercise I get is the path between the couch and the refrigerator." I was so offended I stopped, at that point. Just because you don't work out all the time doesn't make you a munch monster! But hey, you might make a good model. Don't know until you try. ;)

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 02:11 AM
That's awful. >< I used to get Cosmo and Seventeen, and one quiz I saw in there was kind of like that. The question was about the same, except it stated "Uhh, does walking to classes count?" I thought it was a tad funny then, but still.
Yes, I might, but it's doubtful because I don't look good in pictures, and I don't like having my picture taken.

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 02:14 AM
Oh, I'm so much like you there. I'm not photogenic at all, and feel awkward about being photographed because of it. I hate almost all pictures of myself. I see them and think, "Man, I thought I looked nice, then. Instead I look like this skin-colored balloon or whatever...." Ick. :P And Gothic Lolitas like to be photographed.... I met some local ones last month, and it was photography-heavy. I'm like, "Man, they're all so cute, and look at me...." So frustrating.

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 02:42 AM
Exactly. I hate pictures of myself. ><
Really now? I wish we had some Gothic Lolitas here...That'd be cool.

Hey, do you have any make up tips that would go with the dress?

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 02:54 AM
Are you on Live Journal? If so, search communities for a Lolitas group in your area. That's what I did. And was quite happy to find one. :) They're really nice girls, too, mostly all college age. And not fazed by me being a little older, luckily.... I felt very welcomed, in fact. As for make-up tips.... Keep it subtle. You don't want anything big or punchy. Go for colors that naturally blend with the skin. You want to subtly highlight your features, not proverbially smack someone with your cosmetics. Now, if you want to do the more strongly gothic side of things, you can be a bit more dramatic. In that, you have leeway to use more definitive eyeliner, deeper-toned lipstick, etc. But if you're doing classic, and definitely if you're doing sweet, you want understated and subtle. If you go sweet or princess-classy (there's a whole subset of the look called "Hime Lolita," which is basically out to look like a high-class princess, rich, elegant, and glittery), then you might want to include some sparklies. Other than that, just make sure it blends well and is fresh and natural-looking.

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 03:22 AM
Live Journal? I've not heard of that..^^; But I'll try it, thanks.
Alrighty, that sounds good. I'm going to try to be slightly gothic, but mainly keep it subtle. Thanks again.

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 03:27 AM
You've never heard of LiveJournal? Honestly? It's one of the biggest and best-known blog sites out there.... You will have to sign up for a blog if you want to join a community there, but no one says you have to write in it if you don't want to. And you're welcome for the tips. If you want to look a bit gothy, as I said, you have freedom to wear the make-up a bit more visibly. A smoky hint to the eyes, a more noticeable tone to the lipstick. But don't go all-out "goth" make-up, really. So trying to keep it somewhat toned down is definitely the better choice.

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 03:33 AM
Honestly. Lol I'm not really into all those blog sites, ect. I have Bebo, that's about it, and I don't even go on there unless one of my friends messages me.
I probably won't wear lipstick, maybe lip gloss or something, but I will put on dark eyeliner and shadow. That's the way I normally do my make up anyway.

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 03:43 AM
Hey, I usually only use LJ to communicate with other people. I hardly ever write in it; I just don't see the need to advertise every detail of my life, really. As for your costume, you do want to use some sort of lip color, just to make it look complete. A deep pink gloss ought to do the trick, though, if you don't want all-out lipstick. It'll add a hint of color and shimmer without being annoying.

scorpio grl
10-11-2007, 03:48 AM
Me, either. It's just I only know of you having LJ, no one else, and there's no one I know from school who has it who's told me. Besides, I usually only talk to people on here or [rarely] on Bebo. Why would I need a different site just to talk to the same people?
Alrighty then, I'll try the lip gloss and if it doesn't look right, I'll try lipstick. ^^

Guendolen_Sama
10-11-2007, 03:53 AM
Well, other people got me using LJ. As I said, it's a handy means of communication for and with them. I talk to different people in different groups, too. There's some overlap, but not completely. Say, be sure to post a picture of you all Lolita'd up whenever you get the end result all together. :) Oh, I almost forgot- be sure to get appropriate socks or stockings. Knee socks are really popular, especially lace-topped, if you can find them. Tights would too, solid, flowered/patterned, or striped. Stripey tights or stockings are popular choices. For a wide variety of inexpensive and versatile socks and tights, look here: http://www.sock-dreams.com/_shop/edit/index.php
I think they even have a knee sock which they promise stretches up to twenty inches, which is what I need. I must order some at some point. :)

Well, they are custom-made. In fact, another auction on the same design might well go up shortly.... But it'd probably be the same thing, with the steadily rising price.
