George Lucas Or J.R.R Tolkein, yes, I know lucas didn't write many books, but the fact that both these authors have time lines and over 1000 years of History, and that they say what happened after, is quite phenomenal.

While I frown at threadcromancy, I can't resist adding my own two cents.

Sure, I like JK Rowling. But as far as being the best author ever, I'd say no.

Personally, I think Oscar Wilde is amazing. There is much more to him than flippant wit and charm. And while I love his plays, my favorite works of his are The Picture of Dorian Gray, "The Ballad of Reading Gaol" and all of his fairy tales.

Best contemporary author (which I know isn't the question) I'd say is Neil Gaiman. I adore him, no matter what medium he works with.

Honestly, the question of who's the best author ever is extremely difficult to answer. So I'm just sort of throwing things out there that aren't JK Rowling or Stephanie Meyer.

An added note in response to pages ago: Victor Hugo rocks!

Chuck Palahniuk, fo sho. The guy's brilliant. The way he understands people and his writing style are just amazing. C: I've only read Invisible Monsters so far, but I want to read his other work too. He's written Invisible Monsters, Fight Club, Choke, Lullaby, Survivor, Haunted and Rant.

There's going to be a movie based of Choke, and Fiest, Panic! At The Disco, and Motion City Soundtrack have all written songs that had some relevance to Invisible Monsters. [Time to Dance, Invisible Monsters, and Brandy Alexander]

Stephen Chbosky
Ellen Hopkins

Comics and manga

Mitsukazu Mihara

OMG! Im going to kiss you now! *kiss* Voltaire is my favorite musician of all time in the history of forever!

Have you read any of his books? He wrote an interior-decorating DIY book for the monochromatic accessorizers called 'Paint it Black'. It still has the same humor as his songs and comics, which is why I'm in love with him in the first place. I'm actually listening to 'Vampire Club' as we speak. :D
