I know a few odd phrases and words...not terribly many, though, and I'm afraid I don't know the grammar rules or speech rules {such as whom to use more polite phrasing around}. Japanese is a confusing language. XD

Arigatou is long. Ohayou is too. My book spells long words with two o's, but when you write in hiragana you use u to extend the "o", so...I dunno.
Anyway,
chotto nihongo o hanashimasu. nihongo no jugyoo ga gakkou de arimasu. san nensei desu. chotto kanji de kakimasu. asatte nihongo no shikem ga arimasu. seiseki ga warui deshou.
Eigo (English):
I speak very little Japanese. At school, I have a Japanese class. I am a third year. I can write in a little kanji (We've learned like...140..I didn't write that in Japanese). The day after tomorrow I will have a Japanese exam. I predict my grade will be bad.
It might not be correct, but I'm working on it. I might be able to help you a little. I can always ask my sensei too.

So desu
It's actually spelt as "saa," but pronounced as "sou" or "soo," I would just remember to draw out the "o" sound.
xD
I'm not too good with the language, but I know that part because Rounime taught me. I've pretty much given up on learning due to lack or time or, when I do have the time, bad timing--long story, but I know a few odd tid-bits both informal and formal, and I'll be more than glad to help you.

Aaaaaactually, it is spelled "sou" or "soo" as well.
If it sounds like it, it's spelled the same way. At least we can be thankful for the fact the Japanese don't spell words crazy ways like English does. I've never come across a word that isn't said the way it's written (you slurr certain things and others such things, but all the letters are always in the word). My sensei is always talkin' bout how the Japanese way is soooo much better and we're just confusing. Hey, maybe she's right (...there, their, they're...ha.ha..)...but the woman is bias.
We are talking...
sensei ga kirei desunee.
hai, soo desnee.
my teacher is pretty, isn't she?
Yes, she is.
Riiiiiiiight? Same thing for, it is correct.
Twighlight,
No is Iie.
Arigatou is long.
Doumo is long too.
Anata wa sounds strange to me...it doesn't have a question "desuka"...it just looks like you and the particle "wa" (topic, is,etc), but I'm not really sure on that at all. Daijoubu can be said as a question word, but we've never added desuka to that on..hmmm..gonna hafta ask.
Sayoonara is long.
Hopez I didn't make any mistakes.

I took Japanese 1 already (Japanese 2 won't be until January 14th...), I know about half the stuff you need to know. I'm doing a series of Japanese lessons on Quizilla, you can check that out.

I actually didn't know Japanese people don't stress over spelling-that actually could've been mentioned to me before..._.
So, yeah, thanks again. I think I saw another mistake with "iie iin desu," but I'm not sure, so I shan't say anything. I have a good sight I would reccomend. I could find it and give anyone the URL if anyone is interested. It helped me bunches!<333

Also, another bit of advice...sometimes, U's aren't pronounced. Liiike..."Yukan Club desu ka". It winds up sounding like "Yukan Club deska". As for my bits of wisdom...dunno if they've been mentioned yet {Gomen ne* if they have}, but...
~*Gomen ne - "I'm sorry." {I think it's a more polite version of "gomen", but I'm not too sure...>.<}
~Desu - "I am/I'm" {Used in introductions; "GG-desu". U is sometimes not pronounced, at least in my experience.}
~Minna - "Everyone/everybody/you guys, etc." {Useful when you're addressing a group. Also, I think I've heard the "-san" honorific tacked onto the end a lot...}
About all that I can remember that wouldn't be common knowledge...it may not all be right, due to the fact that I've almost never seen some in text, but it's what I've kind of picked up from watching subbed dramas and PVs.
