A Friend Forever Lost

They were a group of seven high school seniors. All of them very close to one another and inseprable. They always hung out at a river just outside of the small town they grew up in together earning the seven the name 'River Rats'. It was the night before their high school graduation. They were at the river as always, just with a few other aspects. Each of them had been drinking. One boy perished that night in an accident caused by one of the other six. Andrew Dellenger didn't walk across the stage the next morning with the rest of his friends. The firendship of the remaining six fell apart. They spoke to one another at their graduation and then at Andrew's funeral a few days later, but that was it. They all then went their seperate ways for their lives.

Its now about two years after the accident. The six find themselves returning to their home town to face another tragic loss. One of the six had a grandmother that all of them were very close to. She was like a grandmother to all of them in a sense. What happens when the six meet up again? Will the friends come closer, or just drift farther apart? Will they forgive and accept the one who killed their friend?

Short Bio: Vyxsin was always the impulsive one of the River Rats. If she had something on her mind she said it, or what she thought of someone. She was very close to everyone out of the group. After the accident she just stopped talking all together for about a week. She then moved to New York for college with a summer internship working at a theater to become a stage manager. She came back to her home town for her grandmothers funeral.

He was a basket case during graduation and the funeral. He got out of there and headed off for college in Colorado only to come back a few years later.

Vyxsin sighed softly as she sat in her old room of her house. A photoalbum sat open on her lap. She slowly flipped through the pages fighting back tears as she looked over the old photos of her and the rest of the old group. She glanced over a few pictures of her friends smiling and laughing with Andrew. She left the town from a funeral and now she was coming back for one. She figured everyone else would come as well since they were all close to her grandmother. She sighed once again as she put the album down on her bedside table.

Ben slowly drove into his old hometown in the beat up pickup truck he had always driven since high school. He passed by the bank of the river where he and his old friends would always be. He sighed heavily as he could still see everything that happened that fateful night. He wouldn't have come back if it wasn't for the fact that he, like everyone else, was close to Vyxsin's grandmother. She was the closest he had to one. He knew he'd see his old friends, and he was dreading it.

Alexandria rubbed her neck as she saw the town. She really didn't want to come back to her home town but she was just so close Vyxsin's grandmother, infact they all were. That was the real reason she didn't want to come, she didn't want to see her old friends again. Not only that but this town brought back memories of Andrew.

Chris was drivign around his home-town, in a mini-van, that was pretty beat up, since he was using must of his money on school. HE was really sad, he couldn't believe "grandma" had died, he had always wished she would live forever. He then pulled up into the drive-way of his old house.

Alice was driving into her home-town, her year old sports car, black and shiny. She looked around memories flooding into her, her and "grandma", and the group, she almost had to stop the car, because she was crying so hard."why did she have to die?" she mumbled to herself. She drove around the town, trying to remember where she used to stay, then she spotted her house. She was really nervous to go in, she hadn't talked to her parents in years.

Vyxsin couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She felt them start to stream down her face. She sobbed softly and just ignored her mothers calls asking if she was alright. Not partucularly. She had to come back to a town where one of her closest friends had been killed in a car accident for her grandma's funeral. "Why did this happen?" she said softly to herself.

Ben pulled into the drive to his old house. He had spoken with his parents maybe once a month since he had left, but hasn't seen them in the two years its been since graduation. He sighed as he turned off the ignition to his truck and just sat there not wanting to move as a few tears fell from his eyes down his cheeks. He didn't want to be here, but he was anyway. He felt that he owed it to 'grandma'.

Alice got out of her car, and headed to the door, she knocked on the door, and it was opened by her mother who embraced her"nice to see you to mom" she mumbled, tears still streaming down her face.

Chris had talked to his parents last week, so when he pulled up, he was greeted by his parents. They both gave him hugs, and told him how "grandma" had died, it was sdepressing, he should have been their for her.

Vyxsin grabbed a tussue from the box on her dresser wiping her tears from her cheeks. She stood up deciding she needed to go for a walk. She left her room silently and walked down the stairs. She was greeted with a hug from both her mother and solem quiet father. She walked out the front door walking past the small blue civic she drove and started walking down the sidewalk, not knowing where she was heading.

Ben finally got out of the truck. He grabbed a small bag out of the bed and walked up to his door. His parents greeted him at the door. His mother gave him a bone crushing hug knowing how upset he was and his father a simple pat of sympathy on the back. He brushed past them silently to go up to his old room. He dropped his stuff on the floor as he looked around the walls covered in pictures of his old friends. She sighed and laid face down on his bed.

Alice pushed past her mother, and father, then raced up the stairs, to get to her room, and opened an old photo of them all together. She looked at them all, she just wished they had stayed together, she just continued to look at the photo, memory after memory hitting her.

Chris dad patted his back, his mom gave him a hug, and lead him inside the house.

Vyxsin sighed softly as she continued walking at a slow meandering pace. The cool dusk air was very welcoming to her. She started thinking about her old friends. She didn't know what she would do if she saw them again. Tears streamed down her face once again as the scene of Aiden and the car accident. She didn't know how she would react to that boy that most out of everyone.

Ben just laid on his bed. He started scanning over the pictures from various birthdays, holidays, or just random events at school. It stung everytime he scanned over their faces. Always smiling and inseprible they were. 'Why did that change?' he asked himself in thought.

Alice eventually put away the photo's, she had often thought about her old freinds, what had happened to them, where they worked, how their life was. The sad part was every time she got the courage to pick up the phone, and call them, something terrible happened in her life.

Chris was looking at the photoalbum, wishing they could be what they once more, but he knew it would never happen, they had drifted to far apart for two long, they wern't freinds anymore.

Vyxsin shook her head trying to shake the images from the front of her mind. She glanced up as she passed a few streets she recongized. Her old friends streets. She sighed heavily as she wiped more tears from her cheeks. She knew that they would never be able to become as close as they once were. That broke her heart more than anything.

Ben sat up on his bed as he pulled a framed picture off his bed side table. It was one they all took at their senior prom together. He put it back face down not able to look at all of their smiling faces.

Alice stared at the phone, she wanted so badly to pick it up, and dail Vyxsins number, but she knew that would only break her torn heart, into even more peices. She started to cry again, she had found the picture of them at prom, all the smiling faces, and their was his face, the one she wanted to forget.

Chris was looking at the photos, and he saw the old picture of them at prom, the smiles, and he turned it around, and their was Ben's number, he wondered if he should call him or not.

Vyxsin turned slightly remembering where Alice's house was. She had a feeling that most of the old group was back in town. She was debating with herself to go talk to her or not. She shook her head eventually deciding not to. She knew it would hurt to much.

Ben glanced up at his bookshelf noticing the old year books. He pulled down the one from their senior year. He glanced through the pages finding small notes from everyone, then the pages the group had written to each other. Most saying how they'd never drift appart or loose contact when they left. He had to flip back to a different page not being able to read through it without a twinge of pain in his heart.

Aiden had just left the airport in his rental car. As he drove around familiar places, it felt like his whole past was comming back to him. Even the good memories seemed to be painful. He drove past Alice's house, and then past Ben's. When he reached Vyxsin's house, he pulled off onto the side of the sidewalk and just sat their, looking at it.

'What am I doing here?' Aiden asked himself. If it weren't for the death of Vyxsin's grandmother, he would have never left Japan. He would have never come home. Slowly, he pulled away, heading down the street.

Vyxsin continued sobbing softly as she walked. She sighed heavily as she eventually came to the small cafe they were always at when they weren't at the river. She wiped the tears off her cheeks along with most of her eye liner and headed inside. Memories cme flooding back to her as she walked through the dining area to the old table they always sat at. She slouched into the booth and looked around.

Ben sighed softly as he stood up from his bed. He walked out of his room and down the stairs. A simple 'I'll be back later,' was all he said to his parents before walking outside. He took in the cool air as he walked passed his truck and down the drive and headed down the walk. He didn't know where he was going, he just knew he needed to clear his head. He passed by Chris' house slowly noticing a van parked outside. He decided to continue walking thinking it would be best not to try to talk to anyone.

'I wonder if the cafe is still open?' Aiden whispered to himself as the thought passed. He turned the corner and drove a little ways before pulling into the cafe's parking lot. Much to his suprise, the cafe had not changed. Aiden got out of his car, observing the building from a slight distance before deciding to go in.

He felt very out of place. Everyone seemed to be dressed in casual clothes, whereas he was still dressed in a buisness suit. It was custom in Japan to wear a suit when travling to the U.S. It gave a sense of formality.

"One cappachino," Aiden said to the person behind the counter. As he waited, he looked around the room, painful played in his head. Then he saw a familiar and instantly paled.

'Vyxsin...'

Alex didn't drive to her house just yet, instead she decided to drive to the old cafe. She parked in the parking lot and got out of the car. She locked it and then walked to the door. Her face grew with emotion when she opened the door and saw who was there. Aiden and Vyxsin. Alexandria closed it quickly and ran behind the building. Why am I so afraid? she thought to herself as she took deep breathes. I know we haven't talked in awhile but... still... After thinking about it she returned to the front of the building and sat on the sidewalk.

Alice finally got up, opened her largest suitcase, pulled out her cosmetics, putting on a very small amount of foundation, so you wouldn't be able to tell she had been crying. Then she picked out her black chanel dress, and purse. She felt like going to that old cafe, so she walked down the stairs, got in her car, and drove to where she was pretty sure it was. HAppily it was their, so she pulled into the parking lot, locking her sports car, and walking in. That was when she saw Aiden and Vyxsin, she practically froze, she was so scared, they would notice her, so she sat in a booth, as far away from them as possible.

Chris just walked out of his house, and started to walk around the town.

Vyxsin glanced around slightly. She noticed Aiden out of the corner of her eye standing at the counter. She sobbed softly. She had still never forgiven him for killing Andrew. She had honestly hoped he hadn't noticed her, but knowing her luck he already had. She also caught a glimpse of another familiar face walking into the cafe. Alice... she thought noticing her heading to the other side of the cafe.

Ben continued walking at his normal slow pace. He kept his gaze at the ground. Memories still continued to flood his mind.

ALice thought she saw Vyxsin looking at her, and looked away, trying to avoid any sort of contact, she might break down, which would be very bad.

Vyxsin grabbed a napkin from the dispencer and wiped tears that slowly rolled down her cheeks. She was more affected by Aiden's presence rather than Alice's. She burried her head in her arms to be sure to avoid contact with both of them.

Ben stumbled slightly as someone ran into him. "I'm fine..." he said in reply to the voice that sounded slightly familiar, yet changed. He glanced up seeing Chris. He didn't know how to react to his old friend.

Aiden looked away fast. He couldn't face her, not now. He hadn't notice Alice walk in. Even if he had, it wouldn't change anything. Aiden was scum and a murderer. He didn't deserve to talk to these people that were once his friends.

Aiden left the cafe, leaving the lady behind the counter unsure what to do with the drink he ordered. He past Alex without notice, walking back to his car.

Chris looked at him, and his heart stopped"ben.....is that you??"

aLice watched as he left, and ran out, got in her car, and speed out of the parking lot, she needed to get out of them.

Vyxsin sobbed softly in her arms. She stood up and raced put of the cafe running past Alex not realizing she was there. She started tearing out of the parking lot at a sprint until she tripped over a curb landing on a grassy area. She gripped her ankle that was now screaming with pain.

"Yeah...it's me Chris," Ben replied solemly to his old friend. He didn't know what else to do or say.

Alice didnt see, but spead off to her house, and was almost pulled over by a cop, which would have been bad, since she had never got a ticet before.

Vyxsin shifted her postion to where she was laying on her side in the grass. She just sat there not wanting to move. She felt warm tears continue rolling down her cheeks.

Ben nodded slightly in agreement. "In a way yes, in others no," he replied with a bit of a shrug.

Alice pulled up in the drive way of her house, and just sat in her car crying, she was having a break down.

Aiden saw the two leave, just then realizing that one of them was Alice. Then his eyes shifted to the girl sitting on the curb, recognizing Alex, but saying nothing. Somehow he knew, that the three had seen him, making him regret comming back home. Aiden smaked the top of his car angerly, making the alarm go off.

He hated himself. Instead of getting in the car, he left it and began walking down the street. He found himself being drawn to the sound of crying.

When he saw her, he still couldn't look at her, but found his vioce for a second, "Vyxsin...are you...alright?"

Vyxsin went a bit wide eyed as she reconized the voice. She glanced up at Aiden with tear stained eyes. She struggled to find words for a moment just muttering random syllables. She then managed to find words. "Just get away from me! You killed him!" she said...screamed bloody murder at him. "You killed him..." she said softly as she started violently sobbing.

"Fair to say the least...and yourself?" Ben replied simply. He glanced up briefly thinking he heard someone screaming. It sounded slightly familiar to him.

ALice never thought of Aidan as a killer, it had been an accident that was all.

Aiden didn't have words. He wanted to cry, but it wasn't in his nature to do so. He nodded and looked towards the ground in shame.

Vyxsin continued sobbing softly. She wasn't sure if she really meant what she just said or not. She just knew she was upset and seeing everyone else wasn't helping.

Ben nodded slightly. "It might be a good idea," he said starting to let his curiosity take hold of him.

Alex got up and ran to Aiden and Vyxsin. She glared at Aiden but then had to look away. It was an accident... besides he wasn't the one that had offered the drinks... she thought to herself. "Vyxsin are you all right?"

Chris nodded, and started walking towards the sound, curousity getting the best of him as welll.

"Can I help you...?" Aiden whispered to Vyxsin, his voice cracking. He walked a step closer offering a hand to her.

Vyxsin glanced up at Alex as she came over. She gave a gentle nod of her head saying she was. She managed to calm herself down slightly. Her body was trembling slightly. She remained silent as she simply looked up at Aiden.

Ben walked slightly behind Chris as they made there way to what seemed like the old cafe. He sighed softly. He was curious but not exactly eger to find if it was what he thought it would be.

Alex nodded for no reason, one of her old habits. She didn't offer a hand seeing that Aiden had already offered one. Her lip twitched and she held back tears. She could see two people coming this way. Chris and Ben... she thought to herself before looking away from the others.

Chris stopped and just looked at them all, everyone but Alice, was here, and he saw Alice, approaching, she stopped after she saw them all.

Alice had decided to just take a walk, and she headed back to the cafe, she had left her purse in the booth, this was very uncomfortable. She had to use all her self-control, to keep from running away from them all.

After calming down and shaking the tears away by biting her lip she looked back to them. When Vyxsin didn't take Aiden's hand she couldn't help but feeling bad for him. She let a hand out to the girl on the ground.

Vyxsin hoisted herself off the ground. She glanced over seeing Chris, Ben and Alice on their way over. She bit her quivering lip. It was hard seeing all of them again to her. She sighed softly trying to keep herself calm.

Ben glanced at everyone. Everyone came back wich isn't suprising, he thought to himself. He stopped where he was noticing how unstable everyone's emotions seemed to be. His weren't much better.

Alice started to walk towards the cafe, trying to avoid the whole situation, she really just wanted to go in get her purse, and leave. Of course that was impossible, since they were blocking the way to get into the cafe, so she would have to walk through them to get in.

Chris watched them all, unsure of what to do or say, he couldn't just walk up and say*hey guys, been a long time, we should chat sometime*.

Alex rubbed the back of her neck, another old habit of her's. "So umm... Vyxsin are you ok?" she said braking the awkward silence.

Vyxsin could only bring herself to nod. She glanced at Alex for a moment then arond to everyone else. "I'm alright," she finally said almost silently.

Ben just watched everyone. Its not like you could just start a conversation that easily. He hadn't seen or talked to them in two years. It was more complicated that a 'Hey, how about the weather,' comment. He slowly started to move over to the group.

Alice just stood their looking at them, mabye she shouldn't have come, the agency understood, and had given her a week off, but when she came back she was going to paris, for a modeling show with chanel. She always thought random things when seh was nervous, now that she thoguht about it, her car needed to be washed, her parents wanted to go out for dinner, in 4 hours, she should be at home getting ready.

Chris walked alittle closer as well, but not to close, he didn't wnt anyone to feel uncomfortable.

Aiden withdrew his hand slowly, seeing as Alex had offered Vyxsin one. She would probably feel better accepting help from her instead. It was certainly strange...suddenly seeing all six of them there at the same time. Aiden felt ackward, like he shouldn't have been there. He slowly backed away a few steps from the group, trying to decide if he should leave.

"That's good..." Alex said and looked at the ground. She felt terrible, especially how Vyxsin had just treated Aiden. I was the one that had found the drinks and that stuff.. they should blame me all the same, if it hadn't been for me and the drinks Andrew might still be alive... she thought right before looking up at the boy and saying, "I'm sorry Aiden..."

Vyxsin looked back over at Aiden. She didn't mean what she said to him earlier. It was just her emotions getting the better of her. She sighed feeling aweful after screaming at him the way she did.

Ben continued walking over to the group. "Hey..." he managed to mutter to the four in front of him. He glanced at them, just scanning over their faces for a brief moment.

Aiden looked up at Alex for a breif second before returning his gaze back to the earth below. He couldn't understand why she was apologizing. He replied in a soft voice in Japanese, because any other words wouldn't form, "It is I who is sorry."

He didn't lift his eyes again when Ben spoke.

"What?" Alex took a deep breath. She wished this would have happened later. She didn't know what to say anymore. She looked at the sky which didn't fit the time at all. It was a happy blue at this minute. Alexandria's lip twitched.

Vyxsin glanced at Aiden. "Aiden..." she said softly in a mousy voice that was very unlike her. "I-I-I'm sorry...I shouldn't have snapped at you like that..." she mumbled almost incoherently. She was honestly hoping that he heard her.

Ben just watched the scene silently.

Alex had to leave. Her emotions were taking a hold of her. The girl was sure that she would see them later. She fast walked back to her car.

"I've got to go," Aiden said quietly, taking his leave and heading back towards the cafe. "See you all later."

Alice nodded"I got to go to, I have to go out to dinner with my parents in 4 hours" she mumbled, and ran through them, into the cafe, grabbed her purse, and ran away. She wished things could be differnt between them.

Chris was now rather uncomfortable"nice seeing you guys, but......um....I gtg" he said and started to walk away.

The girl put the keys in the ignition and started the car. She didn't move though, her eyes swelled with tears and she looked behind her to see if they were still there. They were. She couldn't hold it any longer and she burst into tears. She swore in her mind and hoped to God that they wouldn't see her.

Alice ran faster, not caring where she went, tears streaming down her face. She really wished none of this had ever happened. She missed the close relationship they all had, but now their was nothing.

Vyxsin sighed heavily as she faught back tears. She started walking...limping slowly away from the cafe. She just needed to get away from everyone for a while. Her parents would help the problem much either.

Ben just silently started walking away. He shook his head slightly trying to free his mind from the questions that continued to flood his mind.

Chris headed towards his house, he was really depressed at the moment.

Alice was crying, she had just stopped after a few minutes of running, and broke down.

Wiping away the tears Alex started the old car. It wouldn't start. She hit the ground of the car with her foot and wished the collage she was going to didn't cost so much. She ruffly opened the car door and got out. Alexandria picked up all of her papers and things that were of necessity. She closed the door and started to walk away with all of her papers. "Calm down Alex, Dad will come pick it up later..." she told herself. Then, as it was a bit windy today, her papers flew up. They blew up and she only managed to grab a few. Quickly she started to run after them all.

Vyxsin continued slowly making her way to where ever she seemed to be headed. Tears still fell slowly from her eyes, though she had clamed down a great deal.

Ben glanced bhind him hearing crinkling of papers. He noticed Alex scurrying around trying to gather some. A few had blown his way. He started picking a few up with a soft sigh and made his way over to Alex. "Here," he said softly handing her the papers.

Alex faintly smiled and took the papers. "Thanks Ben," she said softly. Her eyes dropped to her papers as she counted how many she had, luckily she had them all. The girl sighed with relief.

Ben shrugged lightly. "Welcome," he muttered softly before he started walking away once again. He didn't want to cause another awekward scene as the last one had been enough to last him the week and a half he'd be in town.

Alex wanted to say something more but wasn't all to sure as to what to say. She sighed and started to walk towards her house, leaving the old car behind.

Aiden had gone to the cafe to retrieve his car. As he drove down the road, he did see Alice and Ben, but he was quick to pretend he didn't. He drove away from all the familiar streets, to the less than familiar ones where his hotel room was waiting. The thought had occured to him to try staying with his mother, probably like the others were doing. After the accident, however, he hadn't much spoken to her since. Their relationship, like the one with his friends, shattered like delecate glass.

He didn't get very far from the cafe when he saw a broken down car, and Alex walking away not far from it. He slowed down and rolled down the window.

"Need a ride?" He asked, feeling a bit foolish. He'd left Alice and Ben behind, but he wasn't sure why he was offering her a ride.

Alex looked at him a bit startled. She thought if she should say yes or no and when she couldn't decide between her own reasoning she said, "Yes please." Her voice seemed a bit weak and quiet but he could still hear it.

Vyxsin had eventually made her way out of the town. She managed to find her way over to the river. She sighed heavily and sat down at the waters edge. She tossed a small pebble in the dark water as she pulled her knees up to her chest.

Ben continued walking keeping his head down. He was still debating with himself on what to do next. He wasn't exactly ready to see his parents again that evening.

Aiden came to a complete stop and unlocked the car doors for Alex.

Alexandria walked up to the car and held onto her papers tightly as she opened the car door and got in. She closed it, making sure not to slam it. "Thanks..." she said to him smiling a tiny bit.

Aiden eased the car away and begane driving up the street.

"Where you heading?"

Alex wasn't staying with her parents because they had moved to a smaller home when she left. The house was so big and they didn't need the room after all her sibling left. She was going to visit them but right now she just wanted to go to her hotel room and relax. She looked through her papers and found the name of the hotel she was staying in. "Holiday Inn, thanks again," she said not looking up from her papers.

Alice was now at the place they used to always hang out, she remebered they used to meet here everyday. "we were such losers back then"she mumbled to herself, though she had to giggle, cause they had always had so much fun together.

Ben was just walking back to his house, he wasn't sure, what was wrong with him, he should have stayed to talk to one of them.. It didn't matter who, but he really missed alll of them.

Vyxsin sighed softly as she continued to gaze the dark water of the river. She remembered it being fairly deep. She stood up on the bank slowly. She decided to jump into the cool water fully clothed not exactly caring what happened.

Ben sighed softly as he made his way to the small park a couple blocks from his house. He found a bench and sat down. He found himself thinking of all the memories he had with the group he had just walked away from. He really did miss them, but he just didn't know how to talk to them anymore.

Alice sat down in the grass, and started out at the water, tempted to jump in, but she didnt. She might come back later that night, and bring her bathingsuit, or just skinny dip, like they used to, but that only happened once, that she could remember.

Chris was just walking and he saw Vyxsin, he didnt wave or talk to her. Just sat down and watched her for alittle bit, she was still as pretty as she used to, though it was no surprise.

"That's where I'm staying too," Aiden said as he slowed down at stop sign. "Is your stuff already there or did you leave it back at your car?"

It felt strange, talking to one of his old friends. He found his voice easier with Alex then he did with Vyxsin and wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because she took part of the blame for bringing the alchohal the night before graduation.

[Natomie]

Alexandria looked at him for a second before looking back through the windshield. "I have a few things back in my car but I don't need them. I would have brought them anyways but they were a bit to bulky," she told him. It was actually easier to talk to him then she thought. It could have been the fact that she shared the blame with him.

Vyxsin resurfaced the water. She brushed her now soaked her from her face as she treaded water where she was at. The cool water brought back more memories. She sighed softly and dove back under the water to force herself not to start crying once again.

Ben just continued staring up at the sky. He sighed heavily feeling the need to start moving again. Sh stood up slowly and started meandering toward the river.

Crhis continued to watch his old freind, swim, he hoped she wouldnt notice him, and he could walk away. Though he also really hoped she would see him, cause that would be sort of intresting.

Vyxsin once again returned to the surface of the water. She glanced around a bit noticing Alice not far off and then Chris out of the corner of her eye. She sighed softly. Why does he have to watch me like that? she asked herself. He was as attractive now as he was then, if not more so.

Ben reached the river bank. He noticed Alice and Chris sitting on the side and Vyxsin swimming. He shook his head lightly as he sat silently. He glanced briefly over at Alice for a moment.

Alice hadnt noticed any of them, but she looked around, spotting Ben, she wasnt sure if she should wave, and try to get him to come over, or if she chould ignore them, for the moment.

Chris noticed, that she had noticed him, and started to get up, he didn't want her to get uncomfortable. He stood up, completly and started to turn around.

Vyxsin watched him as he stood and turned around. She didn't know whether to just let him go, or to say somthing. She hated the distance between her old friends and her. She contiued debating with herself as she stopped treading water and sank back into the water unintentionally.

Ben figured Alice had seen him. He just silently stared at the ground silently. He still wasn't sure if he wanted to awknowledge her, or any one, quite yet.

Chris turned back around and thought she was drowning or something, since she was sinking. He raced towards the water, about to jump into the water"are you ok?" but just before he reached the water he stopped, she wasnt drowning was she...

Alice looked at him, directly, and smiled, though she wasnt sure, if he would respond, or if she even wanted him to respond.

Vyxsin pushed back up to the surface coughing softly. She glanced up at Chris who was now at the waters edge. Was he really woried about her? She didn't know why he would be. "I'm fine," she replied softly staying where she was.

Ben glanced back over at Alice. He noticed her smile and gave a small wave in reply to it not knowing what else to do and not wanting to just brush her off.

Alice waved back, but then looked away, she felt suddenly uncomfortable.

Chris looked at her"I thought you were drowning, you shouldnt scare people like that" he told her, worry clear in her voice.

Vyxsin sighed softly as she dove under and swam over to the bank. She stepped onto the bank while wringing out her hair. "Its not like I meant to," she said a bit irritated but a bit taken aback by the worry in his voice.

Ben could feel the tension between them. It was the same with everyone it seemed. They used to be so close, but now they don't know each other anymore. The people they could all tell their deepest secrests and desires to have become total strangers.

Alice stood up, and turned to him"hey Ben, how are you??" she might as well try to talk to him, since it was killing her not to.

Chris was alittle taken back by her irritation"well forgive me, for being worried" he replied, sadness and annoyance clear in his tone. "since its clear you don't want me here" he muttered, before he got up, and started to leave.

Great, just run off the person who was remotly worried about you. Smooth Vyx, Vyxsin thought as she sighed softly. "Chris, I didn't mean it like that," she said starting after him. "I'm sorry I haven't had much control over my emotions since I came back to this damn town... but I can go drown myself if you would like."

Ben glanced up very suprised to notice that Alice had at least attempted a conversation. "Hey Alice. I've been alright, and yourself?" was all he could manage to mutter.

Aiden shrugged. Whatever. They drove a while in scilence.

"I believe the hotel is down that street on the left side, right?" Aiden said, nervously breaking the quiet.

[Natomie]

Alex took a deep breath. "Yea," she told him quietly. She brushed back her hair which had fallen in front of her face. quickly she looked down to her papers, again making sure they were all there.

Aiden pulled into the hotel parking lot. He got out and walked to the trunk, pulling out a small suitcase and a computer bag. He slamed the trunk closed and walked to the other side of the car, waiting for Alex.

[Natomie]

Alex got out of the car and held onto her papers tightly so they wouldn't fly away. "Thanks for the ride Aiden," she said to him with a slight smile. She then started to walk to the hotel door.

Chris turned around and looked at her"don't drown please, and I now what you mean, ever since I got here, its been hell, but I'm glad that you don't hate me or something."


ALice smiled at him nervously"I've been ok, I guess, so what do you do for a living?" he had always been really smart so she assumed, a lawyer, or something big like that.

"It sounds like so much fun though," Vyxsin replied to his comment of not wanting her to drown. "I don't know why I would hate you. You haven't given me a reason, and sounding and looking as worried as you did doesn't some close. Even after all of us haven't talked in two years," she explained softly.

Ben returned a small nervious smile. "Well, currently I'm still in college," he replied.

Alice nodded"yeah, trying to pay for my 2nd year in college, and I guess you could say I'm a model" she said nervously, because well, their were a ton of steriotypes about models. So she didn't want him to judge her, or anything.

Chris smiled alittle"yeah, I suppose it could be fun." he told her in reply, to the comment about drowning. "I feel alot better now." he said, but kinda looked around nervously"do you want to, mabye go grab a cup of coffee, or tea if you don't like coffee."

Vyxsin smiled for the first time since she had gotten back in town. She sighed softly as if faded just as quickly as it appeared. "I'd enjoy that...the tea, I mean," she replied softly.

Ben smiled slightly. He had always thought she had the figure to be a model. "Well, if you enjoy it, that's all that really matters," he replied.

Chris smiled"well then out for tea we go" he said happily, and smiled at her, and started up the hill, do the road that lead to the cafe.

Alice smiled in return"well that makes me feel better, I was worried you would think, you know the usual things people think about models. That were dump, anerexic, people who don't have feelings."

Vyxsin walked slowly beside him. Her shoes were sloshing as she walked, but she didn't exactly care. The people who ran and worked at the cafe were used to her coming in soaked. "So...how've you been?" she asked trying to make small talk to avoid another awkward silence.

"Of course not. I'm not judgmental like most people are," Ben replied with a bit of a smile. He had always been open minded about everything, even in high school.

ALice smiled"yeah you always were, and thats one of your great qualities"

Chris smiled"I've been pretty well, you??"

"Alright to say the least," Vyxsin replied softly. "School is school and my job is a blast," she said with a small smile.

"I'm interning at a theater on broadway to become an eventual stage manager," Vyxsin replied as she remambered stage managing most of the school plays throughout high school.

Ben smiled. "Would you like to go for a walk or something?" he asked feeling the need to move again.

"It's a lot of work, but it is fun," Vyxsin replied with another small smile that lingered a bit longer than the last one.

Ben smiled as he stood up. "Alright then...where to?" he asked as he started walking.

ALice shrugged, and walked next to him"I have no idea, anywhere you want to go imparticular????"

Vyxsin nodded as she looked at him. It seemed easier to talk to him than the others. She was getting frustrated with herself when she couldn't figure it out. "What are you doing in your life?" she asked.

Vyxsin nodded a bit. "No surprise there," she said looking up at him. "You know...there wasn't that much of a height difference before," she said feeling a bit short noticing he was about a head taller than she.

Ben nodded with a small smile. "Parents aren't helping matters at your end either?" he asked.

Vyxsin just continued looking up at him as she shrugged. "I don't know how you don't notice that," she replied.

"Wow...okay then," Vyxsin said softly as she glanced up noticing they were alomst at the cafe.

Alice nodded"they are exactly like that, its super annoying, and then once you come back, they want you to do everything with them, for example my parents, want me to go to the carnival with them."

Vyxsin smiled as she felt slightly embarrased. "Haven't done that in a while. Thanks Chris," she said softly laughing softly. She then ordered her usual chai tea.

Ben nodded slightly. "I haven't been in my house long enough for them to ask me anything...and my cell is turned off."

Chris laughed with her, not at her"yeah well, I don't mind" he ordered, just his normal, green tea, with extra sugar.

Alice smiled"that sounds ideal, but I promised my parents I would stay at their house while I was here."

Vyxsin smiled as she waited for her tea. "Its still appreciated," she replied to him.

"Yeah, I did as well, so I'm going to get bombarded with demands when I get home," Ben said softly.

"Didn't have anything better to do, and I don't need to go home to help with funeral plans...but I'd preffer to stay off that subject," Vyxsin said softly as she felt tears sting her eyes. She tried to force them back.

"So how long are you going to be in town?" Ben asked.

Chris nodded but looked at her kindly"you now, just because we havn't talked in a while doesn't mean, we can't still be freinds, so dont be afriad to cry" he said, his arm moving, as if to hug her, but he pulled back, unsure what her reaction would be.

Vyxsin continued fighing back her tears. "It's been two years...and its felt like an eternity," she said softly. The person at the counter handed her her tea. She waited for Chris to get his before moving to a table.

Chris got his, shortly after he got his, and lead them to a table. Chris nodded as they went"it does feel like eternity, but sometimes I wish we could rewind time or something crazy like that, and change what happened"he told her looking away.

"I would do anything to have him back..." Vyxsin said softly as she sat down at the table. She felt a few tears roll down her cheeks.

Vyxsin tensed up slightly as he embraced her. It was unexpected but not unwelcomed. She leaned into him letting her head fall onto his shoulder.

Chris was tense as well, but relaxed, when her head rested on his shoulder, he sorta wanted them to just stay like this, but he was pretty sure, once the funeral, was over, they would seperate again, and their freindship be buried with their grandma.

"I just wish that our excuse for a reunion wasn't another funeral..." Vyxsin said as she started sobbing softly. Her body lightly trembled.

Vyxsin curled up to him. She was just enjoying being close to him. She continued sobbing softly. "It should have been me..." she mumbled softly.

Chris held her close, glad that she didnt get mad or run away when he embraced her."No that would have been even worse, but I wish it had been me"Though now that he thought about it, probally everyone in their group, wished it had been then.

Vyxsin gently shook her head. "No...it should have been me...I was the one initally in the front seat of the car...he wanted to trade places with me so I let him..." she explained still gently sobbing.

Vyxsin looked up at him. She knew he was right, but she just didn't know how to handle it.

Vyxsin shrugged lightly. "Well, trying to at least. They're saying I'm doing well though," she replied softly wiping the remaining tears off her cheeks.

Chris nodded, glad to have changed the subject, he didnt like the depressing auru now surronding them."well I know you'll make a really good one, when you make it."he could see it now, it was always something she had seemed to enjoy.

Vyxsin was odviously glad for the subject change. She was just glad that he seemed supportive of what she was doing. "Thanks," she said softly.

"your welcome" he replied happily, taking a sip of his tea, which was the perfect temperature, after the time it had to cool down.

Vyxsin smiled slightly as she curled her knees up to her chest. She had completely forgotten about her tea.

Chris looked at her almost untouched cup of tea"Arnt you going to drink that?" he asked her happily, he wouldnt mind, if she never drank it as long as she talked to him,

Vyxsin glanced at him for a moment trying to figure out what he was alking about, then glanced at her tea. "I knew that...yeah, sorry..." she said softly with a small smile as she took a few sips of her tea.

Vyxsin laughed softly. "I know, but its just a habbit," she replied looking up at him once again with a small, but warm smile.

Vyxsin took another sip of her tea as she let her head rest against him. She sighed softly.

Chris smiled happily looking donw at her, while taking a few more sips of his drink. HE was happy to be in her presence, she always made him smile or laugh, or atleast want to do one of the two.,

Vyxsin found herself content for the first time since being back. She was thrilled to rekindle the fire under at least one friendship, but how long would it last. She desperately wanted the group back together, but when they all leave again, including herself, they'd probably fall apart once again.

Chris suddenly got a very thoughtful look on his face"you now how when we were younger, we used to go to that old abandon victorain mansion thing, and hang out their? What if we threw a party and invited all the members of our old group, their, and then had our parents lock us in for a night or two?"mabye not the locking in part, but he didnt say his last thought out loud.

"I'm not sure if that's a good idea..." Vyxsin mumbled softly as she sipped her tea. She remembered what she had screamed at Aiden earlier.

Vyxsin finnished her tea and placed the cup on the table. She felt slightly more at ease than she had in a while. "Thanks Chris," she said softly.

Vyxsin smiled slightly. She sighed softly as she gently kissed his cheek in a very casual manner. "I really appreciate it," she said softly.

HE loved her smile, and opened the door for her.

Vyxsin nodded lightly in thanks as she walked outside. She started walking at a slow pace.

Vyxsin glanced at him as he caught up with her. She smiled slightly.

Chris smiled at her"so where do you live again?" he asked her jokingly(if thats even a word..)

"Jerk," Vyxsin mumbled softly as she playfully pushed him.

Chris smiled, and laughed alittle"sorry about that"he said sarcastically.

"Uh-huh, I'm sure," Vyxsin replied sarcasticly as she once again pushed him playfully.

Chris laugh stumbling alittle"take it easy"he said playfully rubbing his arm

"But that's no fun..." Vyxsin replied in a bit of a sad pathetic tone.

Chris looked at her with puppy eyes"you really wouldnt want to hurt me, now would you"

"Maybe," Vyxsin replied in a bit of a playful tone. "And the puppy dog eyes don't work on me," she added.

chris frowned, fake tears coming to his eyes"you hate me dont you" he asked her playfully

"Oh, just so much, really," Vyxsin said with a playful smile as she jumped onto his back.

Chris laughed, happy to give her a piggie back ride, all the way to her house.

Vyxsin smiled as she jumped of his back when they got to her house. "Thanks," she said softly.

"your welcome" he replied with a smile.

Vyxsin smiled as she embraced him in a warm hug.

He hugged her back, picking her up off the ground, very slightly.

Vyxsin was a bit startled at being picked up. She looked up at him.

HE looked at her, and put her down gentaly"sorry about that"

"Its alright," Vyxsin replied softly sill looking up at him.

Chris nodded, still looking down at her, he sorta wanted to kiss her, but wasnt sure if that would be a good idea. Then again he did it anyway, he leaned down and gave her a kiss.

Vyxsin was shocked and suprised at the kiss. She turned her head looking at the ground. She wasn't quite sure how to react to it.

Chris looked around nervously"wow look at the time, I should probally leave now, see you later"he called before walking fastly down the street.,

Vyxsin watched him for a moment. She sighed softly before taking off after him at a sprint. She caught up with him easily. "Chris..." she said softly trying to get him to stop.

He stopped to look at her"sorry about that, I couldnt help myself"he told her sheepishly

Vyxsin shook her head. "Its fine," she replied softly. She smiled slightly as she leaned up to him returning the kiss.

Chris blush but of course he kissed back.

Vyxsin wrapped her arms around his neck as she deepened the kiss slightly.

Vyxsin pulled herself closer to him limiting the space there was between them.

Vyxsin started to toy with his hair a bit as she continued to kiss him.

Chris smiled lightly, while he was kissing her*she is a very good kisser*he thought to himself.

Vyxsin managed to find herself in her thoughts as she kissed him. She scanned through her memories briefly realizing that she had liked him since high school.

Chris smiled, he had liked her, since then as well, but this was the first time, he had ever shown it.

Vyxsin smiled slightly. She wanted that moment to just last forever.

Vyxsin sighed softly as she continued to kiss him. For that moment she felt safe, as if nothing could hurt her.

Vyxsin eventually, reluctantly broke the kiss. She looked up at him with a small smile.

Vyxsin smiled at him. She sighed softly as she laid her head against his chest.

HE wrapped her arms around her happily

Vyxsin leaned against him slightly. "You know what I just realized?" she asked in a soft whisper.

"what did you just realize?" he asked leaning down so his head was resting on her shoulder.

"That I've liked you since high school," Vyxsin replied in the same soft whisper.

Chris smiled"really, I've liked you since thyen as well"
