Happy birthday! I think the name came about- well, first off, there's simple alliteration involved. But sixteen is considered a threshold, by a lot of societal standards. You can learn to drive, a lot of parents will let their kids date (well, used to be; nowadays they seem to start dating before they even hit double digits...), get a job- it's considered a bit step closer to adulthood, I think, because a lot of things start happening at that age, both official and unofficial.
