It makes the big difference!!!!!! *deep sigh*
Alright. Rock is rock here and in china, BUT is not the same rock everywhere. You have to understand the little differences between them. J-rock is used to define JAPANESE ROCK, specifically. And that's what Kazuo-kun is asking. Not all of the rock which is mainly understood as occidental rock. It could also be K-rock or C-rock, for Korea and China, but he wants to know about the japanese one. Alright?
Now.. This is J-rock:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c283/Gazonc/alice%20nine/aliceni.jpg
Not J-rock:
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p142/Puscifer83/nin.jpg
Is real simple. It only makes reference to the origin of the band, that also implies the cultural additions to it. You don't have to get upset about either.

Well, there's also Galneryus, who I like very very much too. And this funny band, Animetal, they sound good too.
There's also another band that sounds more like american, but is japanese, it's called Fake? They're very popular. I don't remember if I mentioned Onmyouza, who are quite cool and... let me check my playlists...

OOOKKKKKaaaayyy..
I checked my playlist... and it's a bottomless bucket of j-bands some of them I haven't even heard. I'm having a hard time trying to define them, so I'll put it up like this:
---

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raphael --------- Bump of chicken ------------Onmyouza ---------------- Mucc(anguro-kei)
Soroban --------- Tourbillon -.----------------- Jurassic Jade -------------- Lynch (nagoya-kei)

I have many bands missing and if you don't know who they are, I guess I have pics of'em around my pc... guess I could post a few.
Also, remember Visual Kei is only a definition of their looks, many VK bands are quite heavy. Perhaps you'd like to try one.
I think I have some links to albums... if you want I can look up for them and try to revive them.

Sure you can. I'll try to find them for a try out.
BTW. This is an open thread to everyone, no matter if they're related to J-rock or not, the thing is that is NOT a simple rock thread. If you don't know what the difference is, well.. read above... and try to keep an open mind, there's no case to get upset for something you didn't know or because you didn't read well. In the future, if anybody who doesn't know what J-rock is, comes here, they can always click on the links and have a try out.
J-ROCK FOR THE MASSESS!!!!!
I'll look for those files now.

thats a bit harsh... and tracia makes a good point. if people dont know the difference we should educate as apposed to ridicule them. and again she makes a good point in the fact that the title of this forum is fave J-ROCK not just ROCK .

alice nine. (アリス九號。) is an independent Japanese Visual Kei band, which consists of five members: Shou as vocalist, Hiroto and Tora on guitars, Saga on bass, and Nao on drums. They are signed to an independent record label, PS Company.
alice nine. was formed by Nao, the drummer, in April 2004. Their first concert was held at Ikebukuro Cyber in May 11, 2004. After a few concerts, they started small touring with other bands such as Ayabie, Karen, Kagrra,, Kra, and BIS. They completed their first solo (one-man) tour between August 8 and August 31, 2005. Their third solo tour will hit 14 stops across Japan in August of 2006.
Not really one of my favourites, but I like a few songs and definatly love their looks.
Their works are mostly singles and minialbums, but they released a full length album in april 2006 under the name of Zekkeishoku (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VALO5VZK), that sounds quite different from what I had heard before, lighter.... but there are still a few songs like Dead School Screaming that keep the style.

Uh... Malice Mizer doesn't exist anymore, Kazuo. they've been disbanded for like... 8 years. T_T And nope. The only tours I've heard some bands do are only in France, Spain and Italy. Dir en Gray was one of them I think.
What do you mean with "atm"? I wanted to ask you that from before.
I don't speak much japanese, I'm learning myself, but perhaps I can give you a link to a helpful site.
Also, I visited your MySpace. It's cool you have a band. I was into one till... like 4 months ago, but our differences made trouble and I decided to quit.It was a good band, it had no sense the whole thing dissappeared, they kept my lyrics anyway... Good luck with yours. Ganbatte.

Info: (from Soroban myspace)
Soroban is a relatively new band that was formed in April 2004. The band is currently signed to Loop Ash label. The band members are young, in the age group of 18-20. Their first live was in June 2004, where copies of their first single was distributed free to the live attendees. Since then, Soroban had various sold-out performances. They released their second single in November last year. For a band so young, Soroban is very good; sounding as if they have been around for few years. A band worth checking out. We shall see what progress the band has in store for fans in the near future!
01/11/2006 was the release date of their newest minialbum 激彩チャップル (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F5M8IWNB)(Gekisai Chapel)
Is funny how the titles of the songs are represented by something on the cover of the album. Unfortunatly, I don't have the cover available right now.

I'm so sorry it was me who gave you the bad news. At least you don't live in ignorance anymore. I want them back too.
My band.. well... It was like heavy rock, a bit metal and a touch of classic. We had trouble at first cos we needed a violinist, cos I can't play both the piano and the violin at the same time!!! lol. But we found it. We had original songs and a few japanese covers, but the `problem came in when two of the band wanted to make more and more covers... I didn't like it. There's no case to have a band only to reproduce somebody else's works, is like losing your own identity. Then I had a fight with the vocalist cos he was screwing up the songs at the very last moment, throwing at the trashcan every reharsal and my friend's effort to build a cool composition and make it sound good. and then I shut up and left. They're still going, but had to change a little bit the style cos they don't have a pianist anymore. I guess we had been influenced by obvios X-japan, Evanescense, Onmyouza and the old good rock'n roll.

X-JAPAN
http://195.20.14.200/0/18/85/05/diverses-facettes/x-japan.jpg
Genre:
J-rock, visual, ...metal?? I dont know.
Info:
for the newbies.
X JAPAN (エックス ジャパン, X JAPAN?) (originally X (エックス, X?)) was a successful Japanese band often regarded as "most influential rock band in the history of Asian Music".[1] The band was formed in Chiba, Japan, by drummer and pianist Yoshiki Hayashi and lead vocalist Toshi. They started out as a Japanese power metal/speed metal band, and later gravitated towards a hard rock/progressive metal sound, but always retained a huge emphasis on ballads.
After some years of being an indie band only releasing some demos and one album, in 1989 with the release of their second album, BLUE BLOOD , they exploded into the mainstream of the Japanese music, that album is considered by some to be the one of the best albums in the history of Japanese rock. [1] .
X's music, under the caring and determined supervision of Yoshiki, never stopped evolving. Their music ranges from harsh but very emotive speed metal tracks like Sadistic Desire, PHANTOM OF GUILT and VANISHING LOVE, to piano ballads such as Tears and Say Anything, to alternative and somewhat more alt-rock tracks from their last period like "DAHLIA" and "Rusty Nail". The majority of X Japan tracks were composed by Yoshiki with a handful of pieces composed by hide as well as some early ones by Taiji.
They have sold over 20 million albums and singles and over 2 million videos to date
.. and they're disbanded

Blue Blood
Release Date: 1989.21.04
http://www.cf-network.com/cfan/IMG/jpg/Blueblood.jpg
Info:
X-Japan‘s major label debut Blue Blood is one of the best metal albums I have ever heard. It has the right energy, speed, and wicked guitar that all good metal albums need, and it has the perfect amount of ballads to calm things down a bit.
Some songs are a bit unorthodox (“X Clamation”, “Celebration”, “Rose of Pain”), but they are what keep the album interesting and entertaining. Without a doubt, a must have for fans of X-Japan, J-rock, or metal. If you like what you’ve heard on the domestic X-Japan CD/DVD, I highly recommend you shell out for the import of Blue Blood.
Track Listing:
1. Prologue ~WORLD ANTHEM – 2:38
2. BLUE BLOOD – 5:03
3. WEEK END – 6:02
4. EASY FIGHT RAMBLING – 4:43
5. X – 6:00
6. ENDLESS RAIN – 6:30
7. 紅 (Kurenai) – 6:09
8. XCLAMATION – 3:52
9. オルガスム (Orgasm) – 2:42
10. CELEBRATION – 4:51
11. ROSE OF PAIN – 11:47
12. UNFINISHED – 4:24

Oh my... hold on with that link, I have to renew it.
I'm mexican.
Visual Kei is a style of japanese rock that defines itself by their looks, that's why it is visual. Many associate it also with a gothic sound full of traumatizing lyrics, romance and lolitas. A great exponent of this stile was Malice Mizer, that represented, in their looks and theri music, the french inspiration they took from, especially during the Gackt period.
Visual Kei, to be true, only lets go their super hot outfits and awsome make up. The music of this kind of bands has a large variety, but it has also a couple of patters that illustrate that mind illness the VK bands want to represent. It is alike the anguro/eroguro kei, but it is not to be mistaken for any of those.
Anguro/eroguro bands were born in the past from theather groups. This bands practically base their music in more like a play. They "act" their music. Not many VK bands do this, but some do. Anguro is for theather. Visual.. for their clothings...
Was that confusing??

Tracia

I don't think you ever will. Every outfit is created for the specific person who's going to wear it, depending also on the style of the band and their personality or the personality they want to represent. it's all a mixture of things. Look closely to the artist and you'll start to develop your one VK style.

Yes.. it's always money's fault. And parents. My dad blows up every time he sees me with a weird make up and stuff... Some times I just don't care, but its really annoyant. And I don't do it too often cos I can't afford it, actually... XP

Info:
A band in the visual kei music scene, active from August 1992 to December 2001. After Tetsu left the band in 1994, Gackt was recruited in 1996 as the new vocalist of Malice Mizer. Thanx to Gackt, the band left Midi:Nette and signed up in a bigger label, lauching Marveilles and Voyage. In 1998, Gackt left the band for creative differences and started a carreer as solo. Later on, Kami (the drummer) died, and Malice went back to Midi:Nette. With the recording of Bara no Seidou, Klaha joined as new vocalist, for he had been doing vocals for previous singles and stuff, but after a short tour, they stopped operations to later announce their disbanding.
Malice Mizer is the most representative band on the visual Kei scene, with a wide repertory of compositions that vary in style according to the vocalist in turn.

PIERROT!!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/jrockerrocks/pierrot_3a.jpg
Genre:
Visual Kei
Info:
PIERROT was a japanese rock / visual kei band, originally founded in 1994 by Kirito and Jun in Nagano, Japan.
The original band members were HIDEROW on vocals, Jun and Kirito on guitar, KOHTA on bass, and LUKA on drums. In November of that year, LUKA left and TAKEO joined; soon after, in February of 1995, HIDEROW also decides to leave while Aiji joins. The lineup soon was as followed: Kirito as vocals, Aiji and Jun on guitar, KOHTA on bass and TAKEO on drums.
PIERROT was one of the oldest bands still around in 2005 in the japanese rock scene. They started off like any other decent visual kei band and made their major label debut in September 1998 with the single Clear Sky
The vocalist, Kirito, who has embarked on a solo career just recently, has released his first solo album; Hameln (2005.08.03).
On April the 11th, 2006, the band had announced its disbandment. I cried when this happened.
DICTATORS CIRCUS-奇術的旋律- (DICTATORS CIRCUS-Kijutsuteki Senritsu)
Release Date: 2003/12/17
Info:
This is more of an old VK feel... And it's AWESOME. This is definitely PIERROT at their best! From here on until disbandment they started doing more normal hard rock stuff.

His solo career was a great success as he continues to maintain a level of popularity even greater than when he was still with Malice Mizer.
In addition to music, he has done work as an actor and commercials, usually "playing" himself. Gackt starred in the Japanese drama Hero's Hero as well as co-starring in and authoring the script for the movie Moon Child with HYDE, vocalist of L'Arc~en~Ciel.

Ruki (vocals), Uruha (guitar), Aoi (guitar), Reita (bass) and Yune (drums, later replaced by Kai) started GazettE in 2002, so it's one of those relatively young bands that have gained lots of success in just a few years.
GazettE has changed their musical style quite a lot, and some fans love them for it, some don't. In 2006 when promoting their album NIL they started using the form The GazettE of their name.
In addition to NIL and it's European version The GazettE has only released one whole album, dainihon itan geishateki nomiso kaiten zekkyo ongenshu, which is actually just old singles put together.

Genre:
Ranges from Pop to Hard-Rock, every song is different, yet recognisable as Onmyo-za-ish...
Info:
ONMYO-ZA has male and female vocalists fronting the band. Their song lyrics, characterized by classical Japanese words and expressions, reinforce the traditional
Japanese cultural image the band projects. Concepts of ‘ movement and stillness ‘, ‘darkness and light’, ‘resilience and yielding’, are typically explored in the music. Wearing traditional costumes typical of the Heian Period a thousand years ago, the band produces haunting melodies of great passion and elegance.
The music and the image of the band seem curiously mismatched at first, but an exquisite sense of balance effectively harmonizes apparent contradictions. Their music ranges from pop to hard rock. They have made a big impact in the two years since formation, thanks largely to their dynamic concerts.
Once seen in concert, fans never seem to tire of ONMYO-ZA. Underlying their own claims to this sort of loyalty from their followers is a natural confidence in their music and performances. The band’s track record provides conclusive proof of their enduring popularity. The band members are all fine musicians in their own right.
ONMYO-ZA are kicking off their longest ever nationwide tour of 42 concerts in the autumn of 2004, simultaneously releasing 3 maxi-singles for three consecutive months. With these concerts and releases they are sure to build on their success and go far.

Genre:
Indies Visual Kei
Info: (from 176BIZ myspace)
176BIZ (pronounced - bizu ichi nana roku) began in 2005 as Betty. The band, then, consisted of two members Yu (vo.) and Tara (ba.). Some of you may know them from their previous bands. Tara was the bassist of Panic Channel / PANIC*ch and Yu was originally the vocalist of Never Crazy. The duo's first and only maxi-single, Aka, was released on December 14, 2005.
In early 2006, Betty added 3 new members and completed their transformation by changing the band's name to 176BIZ. These new members were Kasumi (dr. -of band Gimmick), Setsuki (gt. -of band Karen), and Toki (gt. -Ex-Tsubasa of band Panic Channel). With their new members in place, 176BIZ gained a fanbase quickly and were able to premier themselves at a sold-out one man live held on March 13, 2006. Shortly after, their much acclaimed maxi-single, Shinkai ni Oboreta Sakana, was released.
Vocals: Yu
Guitar: Setsuki

Looks like I bring nothing but bad news. All of the bands you think there are girls, there are not, just pretty boys wearing awsome makeup. Except for Kuroneko, of course. I know there are VK female bands, but I've only heard of one called Danger Gang. They are all girls but the vocalist sings like a man, she recalls of Kyo, from Diru. I'll see if I can find anything from them, cos female bands are not too famous, but there are some, and I that I know. Once you see them, you'll be able to make a difference between the boys and the girls, I promise. ^_^

Danger☆Gang was formed in September 2002 by Waka (vocals) and Hiko, with support members Ka-e (bass) and Rei (drums). In January 2003, Ka-e become a full-time band member. Their first live performance was at "akadanobaba area" on January 15, 2003. In March, they recorded their first single "Danger☆Gang no theme". It was sold early at "Takadanobu area" on March 26. In April, "Danger☆Gang no theme" went on sale in Indies CD shops in Tokyo. In June, Rei become full-time member. The second press of "Danger☆Gang no theme" (100 copies limitation) went on sale. In July, Danger*Gang released their first mini-album "CRASH". The "CRASH A DIVE TOUR" started in September and ended October 30, 2003. In December, 2003, Ka-e sadly left Danger☆Gang. Her last live performance was on December 28 at "Urawa NARUSHISU".
In January 2005, Thera joined Danger☆Gang. In July, they released their second single "Samurai", which started being sold at "Urawa NARUSHISU" on July 30. A tour began soon afterwards, and ended in September at "Urawa NARUSHISU".

Dir en grey is so popular! But it's never found a place in me, dunno why. Either Miyavi has one; i liked him as Miyabi while Due le Quartz guitarrist, but not anymore. I hate his voice and every time is more and more gay... Well, I liked his Señor, señora señorita single ^_^ I'm still trying to digest The GazettE, I don't know Roomnumber and I haven't been able to listen to the other three even when their in my computer. ACtually, doing this thread has thrown me into a new stream of music. I'm finally listening to a lot of things I have in archive.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/yorupan/psycho034.jpg
Info:
Psycho le Cému is a Japanese Visual rock band. Its members are AYA, DAISHI, Lida, seek, and YURAサマ (YURA-sama). Formed in 1999, Psycho le Cému distinguished themselves in the Gothic Lolita-dominated visual kei scene via their cosplay, with its members dressing in colorful, extravagant outfits inspired by anime and video game characters, some of which are reminiscent of the characters from the fantasy RPG Dragon Quest.
Psycho le Cému's cosplay inspired a dedicated niche fanbase, with fans who shared the band's interest in anime and cosplay, and some releases and events were done exclusively for members of Kronos, the band’s fan club. The band creates a new set of costumes for each single. Promotional music videos often have storylines based on anime or literature. The band also performs as an alter-ego band called "Bad Boys, Be Ambitious!"

An Cafe (アンティック-珈琲店-),
is a Japanese Visual Kei band formed in 2003 and signed to the independent
label Loop Ash. The band is composed of four members, all male, and all
from the Kantō region of Japan. They are: Miku (vocals), Bou (guitar),
Kanon (bass), and Teruki (drums).
珈琲店 (kohi-ten) means "coffee shop". However, the band chose an
alternate pronunciation, カフェ, or Café. (This pronunciation can still be seen
on their previous official website:(アンティックカフェ - Antikku Cafe)).
The band is variously called Antique Cafe, An Cafe, and Antic Cafe by fans.
Their name is listed in English on the "Cosmos" single as "Antic Cafe", but on
most of their recent singles, as well as on their current website, it is "An
Cafe".

Hagakure was formed in June 2004 by Kaya, former vocalist of le'miu, and the former DIAR guitarist, Rin. The band was completed by some support members.
However, after a while, the band members decided that they didn't want to continue it anymore, and Kaya had to choose between disbanding or continuing the band on his own.
Of course, he opted for the latter and started the struggle of a solo-career.
The support members change quite often, but the current support members are: Junichi (also in the band Plasmajet on guitar, Mako on bass, Mitsuki on keyboards and Gajiro (also former le'miu) on drums. Kaya also thinks of his fans as part of the band too.
Their first release was in May 2005, a single containing one track, which was distributed during one of their live concerts.
In April 2006, Hagakure headed towards Europe for a short tour in Sweden and Germany. Shortly before this tour, the mini-album Tenkahubu was released.

Ah, yeah. Well... that's the way we all should do things, but sometimes the real world makes us part ways away from our dreams. It's hard. Lucky those who really can achieve what they want.

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o208/Tracia_Kurosawa/SeoTaiji11.jpg
Seo Taiji (born Jeong Hyeon-cheol on February 21, 1972) is a South Korean singer and musician. As a cultural comparison, Taiji's levels of popularity in Korea is analogous to the popularity of Michael Jackson in the mid-1980s.
At the age of 14, Jung Hyun-Chul (Taiji) participated in several amateur rock bands. In 1990, at the age of 17, he was recruited into the underground metal group Sinawe (pronounced shee-nah-wee). Taiji chose to drop out of school, a system that he felt did nothing but corrupt the minds of youth, and became a professional musician.
After the break up of Sinawe in 1991, Taiji switched gears and formed the dance group Seo Tai-ji and Boys (서태지와 아이들) with dancers Lee Ju-no and Yang Hyeon-seok.
The introduction of the first Seo Taiji and Boys album announced a complete shift in the focus of popular Korean music that is still felt today. Their first single, "Nan Arayo" (난 알아요, "I Know") was a hugely successful hit, being one of the first songs in K-Pop to meld contemporary dance sounds with urban-influenced rap lyrics.
Seo Tai-ji and Boys broke up in 1996 after four wildly successful studio and two hugely popular live albums. Tai-ji disappeared from the music scene for the next two years, moving to New York City, living a low profile life, and working on his come-back.
In 1998, Taiji returned to the music scene with his first solo album, Seo Tai-ji. His self-produced album continued with his long established sound of mixing contemporary American rock and pop music with Korean vocals. His comeback album, while not a huge success, put him back onto the path of greatness.
In 2000, Taiji exploded with his hugely popular sixth album, Ultramania. With his new band, he blasts out an album with hardcore, crashing metal tracks. "Ultramania," "Internet War," and "Tank" were all huge successes. With the release of his new album, Tai-ji embarked on his first Korean tour since 1996 playing to sold out crowds.
Ultramania was re-released in 2002 with remastered tracks and featured live Taiji tracks from the 2002 ETPFEST.
In early 2004, after almost four years, Taiji's first all new album, 7th Issue, was released.
Taiji is often noted by his fans for his influential contributions to Korean popular music. His style ranges from beautiful ballads to heavy metal. His band consists of Top (guitar 1), Rock (guitar 2), Sang Wook (bass), and Jeff Heff Holter (percussion).

An Cafe (アンティック-珈琲店-),
is a Japanese Visual Kei band formed in 2003 and signed to the independent label Loop Ash. The band is composed of four members, all male, and all from the Kantō region of Japan. They are: Miku (vocals), Bou (guitar), Kanon (bass), and Teruki (drums).
珈琲店 (kohi-ten) means "coffee shop". However, the band chose an alternate pronunciation, カフェ, or Café. (This pronunciation can still be seen on their previous official website:(アンティックカフェ - Antikku Cafe)).
The band is variously called Antique Cafe, An Cafe, and Antic Cafe by fans.
Their name is listed in English on the "Cosmos" single as "Antic Cafe", but on most of their recent singles, as well as on their current website, it is "An Cafe".

I wonder why's she so popular in america. I can't stand her singing.
because there are alot of crazy-psyco fanatics out there of her job on Simple & Clean (from the ever-famous Kingdom Hearts). They claim thier true fans of her when that's the ONLY song they've heard, pretty naive -_-. I, on the other hand, have four of her albums, including her American experiment, Exodus.
By the way, have any of you seen the new An Cafe members? I swear, when I saw thier new keyboardist my first thought was '......gay'. Takuya's pretty cool, though. Why, oh WHY did Bou have to leave?!

Genre: ROCK/POP
Info:
A relatively new visual-kei indies group. The band has four members and is still currently indies, under the label Danger Crue. SID formed in 2003 consisting of Mao (vocals), Shinji (guitar), Aki (bass), and Yuuya (drums). On December 22, 2004, they released their first full album Renai, the first press having only 10,000 copies, was sold out. Their last two singles have reached the Oricon Top 30 music charts.
Despite being a visual-kei band, their sound is different from any other visual-kei bands. The members of SID have said in interviews that they want to develop a genre called "SID"; they want people to describe other bands as "this is like SID" and think that SID has their own, unique style, which won't fall under any other genres than their own.
