“Sky’s the limit”

Ever heard that? Well, in Caelum the sky is just the beginning.
A world built in the skies, where continents and islands float motionless in the sky. No bridges, no roads, nothing connects these floating lands to one another. The only way to travel is by airships and with airships come Sky Pirates. Raiding and pillaging they ravaged the Caelumian Skies for centuries. Devastation hit the sky world of Caelum, creating chaos within every continent, every island.

Then came the Cleansing.
The Armadas of all four continents hunted down the pirate kind, riding Caelum of them, hopefully forever.
Nowadays piracy is rarely found, instead came Treasure Hunters, sailors who search for the riches left behind by the Cleansing, riches hidden so that they once be reclaimed by Pirates.
But what happened when piracy is on the rise? More and more sailors are inspired to seek the old treasures, and more and more and encouraged to be sailor, to be Treasure Hunters, to be Pirates.

Word spread of a glorious treasure, lost during the Cleansing, with untold of value. The Blood Gem. This is what the world is after, what even continents are searching for. You are a sailor, pirate or not, wanting this treasure like the rest of the world, but if the treasure is more than you can handle?

(Hey, this seems pretty cool. The plot reminds me of one of my favorite video games, Skies of Arcadia. I'll join!)

Name: Lydia and Luna Harlowe
Age: Lydia is 40, her daughter Luna is 15.
Gender: Both are female.
Appearance: Lydia is about an average height for a grown woman. She has dark brown curly hair, usually pulled back, and striking green eyes. She wears plain white dresses when tending to her patients.

Luna, in comparison to her mother's simple appearance, is a stark contrast. Her brown hair is streaked with white and purple dye. She dresses outlandishly, in bright colors and large hats. Like Lydia, she also has lovely green eyes.

Personality: Lydia is the perfect choice for a ship's doctor: she is quiet, calm, and complacent. Her very prescence is calming. Even when she is angry, she never shouts or raises her voice; she lowers her tone to a deadly calm to let her antagonizer know that she means business. This is mostly how she managed to keep her exuberant daughter, Luna, in line.

Luna is cheerful, almost annoying so. She is the classic glass-half-full type, and always sees the bright side of everything. As a member of the boarding party, she can be seen on the front lines with her trusty cutlass, urging her crewmates into battle. Luna has a soft spot for her mother, but she tries not to show too much affection around her fellow swabbies.

WOC: Lydia, as a doctor, has no weapons (except the disease-fighting kind). Luna has a single cutlass, which is marked with numerous battles already.
History: Lydia was happily married to a Lieutenant of one of the Armadas. Then, came the Cleansing, and he was taken by pirates, leaving his grieving, pregnant wife. Without a husband, and a squalling baby to care for, Lydia dropped from the circles of high society. She was eventually forced to sell her lavish estate, and work as a seamstress to support herself and Luna, now four. One day, she spotted a poster in a fishing port, looking for a ship's doctor. Lydia inquired, and was eagerly hired, for she was much more skilled with herbs and medicine than she was with stitching and embroidery. Luna has grown into a lovely, yet headstrong, young woman, whose entire life has consisted of sailing in the sky.
Job: Lydia is ship doctor; Luna is a boarder.

Gender: female
Appearance: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/BlackRoseThorn/Females/FullMetalFantasy.jpg
Personality: Adrenaline junkie. She lives for the thrill. She has many moments where she'll never shut up.
WOC: a cutlass, but for long rang a single shot hand gun
History: Esen came from a rather poor family. When her mom died she took to looking after her younger siblings. But keeping a job was hard. Resorting to stealing, she was wanted. Her father was a retired sailor and taught his children everything he knew. So taking the lessons, she went out sailing.

(Will this do for you?)

Name: Gwylan “Scarlet” Braith
Age: 22
Gender: female
Appearance: http://media.photobucket.com/image/anime%20pirate/writer0015/girls/91b3898a.jpg?o=
Personality: Gwylan earned her nickname of Scarlet from both her red hair and her red temper. She’s not volatile, but doesn’t like being crossed. Spirited and determined, Gwylan has had her capability challenged more than once, in the course of her time as a sailor. So don’t question her capabilities, and especially don’t dismiss her as just another woman. She’s an equal, and is going to make sure she’s treated as such. She also plays the pan pipes, favoring songs of the sea and of travel.
WOC: Guns, primarily; both cannons and handguns. Though she can weird a sword in a pinch.
History: Gwylan grew up in a port town, so she’s been around sailors and ships for most of her life. Her family was involved in shipping, in fact. The airships fascinated Gwylan, and she always liked to explore them, wanting to take to the sail. To an extent, a daughter of the family was discouraged from so doing. That rankled, of course. She was permitted to know about it, but discouraged from actively trying it? Gwylan decided to take matters into her own hands. At sixteen, she disguised herself as a boy and stowed away on a ship. Thing is, turned out to be a buccaneer vessel…. This proved to work out for the best, though, as her secret came out in due course. A normal vessel might have balked at a cabin girl, but this captain had enough oddballs and misfits on board that she was instead treated as just another member of the crew.
Gwylan sailed under that flag for a few years. Eventually, though, the captain decided he had collected enough treasure and was going to retire. Gwylan still had the sails in her blood, though, and didn’t want to give it up just yet. So she signed on with a new captain and crew, seeking new adventures. Oh, yes, and one more thing. She has a small tattoo shaped like a five-pointed star on her left bicep. She simply says that it’s “an old sign of protection.” It was acquired in the course of her previous career, and she never talks about how she came to get such a mark.

Personality:She intelligent but does things with out thinking..Like for example joining a pirate crew. She joined it for money too so shes a bit power hungry.
WOC: Two finely made rapiers and she carries around a bag of hand made bombs and smoke bombs.
History:Fantine didn't grow up on the ocean but in fact on the land. She grew up in a smalltown and was raised by her black smith brother. Naturally she picked up some of her own techniques but also learned how to make explosives. One of her experiments had gone bad and destroyed her brothers shop.So she decided to board the ship and earn enough money so she and her brother can continue the black smith business.

((Hope this is all right.))

Name: Samir
Age: 27
Gender: Male

Appearance: Samir has short raven hair and chocolate eyes that appear kind, if not more than a little bored. He is a little on the shorter side, and has cinnamon-colored skin. His upper body is especially muscular, though the rest of him is hardly scrawny. His only adornments are a silver armband and a necklace that sits at the base of his neck. He occasionally wears shirts whose material resemble mesh, but otherwise, his clothing is very ordinary and neutral-colored.

Personality: Samir does not appear to be someone one would like to screw with. And he isn't. Though it may seem like he is extremely ill-tempered, in reality it does take a lot for him to become truly angry. He loves his family, but is not very affectionate. It takes a lot for Samir to become close to someone. He does not open up to just anyone. To most people, Samir appears cold and distant, even when he is being what he would think passes for friendly. Samir is much more ruled by reason than emotion.

WOC: His fists and anything around him he can lift.

History: Samir was born in a small village on Dhaval [a continent sorta like India with a little of the Middle East...sorry if you didn't want me to create/name a continent.] He grew up poor. His father was a truck driver, transporting goods across the continent, in a brightly-decorated vehicle. His father died when Samir was 17, and for several years he took over his father's job. Samir's brother often convinced Samir to drive him places so that he could write and direct shows that never did very well. Samir always did it, not because he wanted to, but because he really did love his younger brother, despite how little he would want to admit it. When Samir was 24, his mother died of a mysterious plague. Samir, outwardly calm, was in pieces inside, and decided that he needed to change his life. Perhaps not for the better, but something drastic. So he decided to try his hand at sailing. He'd tried to get a job on a ship as some sort of navigator, but he always got stuck with the cook's job. He misses his brother back home, but he knows that both of them need to find their real place in the world.

((Ya!! I love all the characters, this is going to be amazing!!))

Drake sat in the Tavern of Port Hole Isle, one of the best places to find a crew for any ship. A glass of Ale infront of him, he began to think. It had been years since he left his good-for-nothing home to sail, and still he recieved letters asking how he was and if he would come home. He never answered them, he hated his mother's new husband, and he didn't want to be apart of what they were. Placing a few peices of gold on the table, Drake decided to leave. He pushed open the door, bumping flat into someone.

Tsuki saw this and rushed over to help, still silent. Her eyes never looked directly at anyone but when she found out that everyone was okay she slipped out of the door quietly. Her hand alway near her 45, ready if the occation called for it. She silently walked down the sidewalk. The claws on her hands made her an outcast......a freak to everyone. Her eyes revealed no emotion at all as she walked and the people stayed as far away from her as possible. The sword on her back was no help to her ability to make friends. Everyone was afraid of her because they must have heard of her brutal past. she continued to walk in silence.

Personality: She is quiet most of hte time, not wanting to talk much about her past. But she has major anger issues if you get her going. She will sometimes just break down and cry but only if things have been especially hard. She is loyal to the captain of the ship and it's crew always. She will never give up until she avenges her innocent family.
WOC: http://www.aceros-de-hispania.com/image/le...golas-knife.jpg
History: Grew up until she was about 11 on a small farm on a remote island with her mother and father. Army came and destroyed everything she and her family had because they thought that her family had been harboring pirates. Her mother and father were killed, and she was left for dead. Treasure hunters had come to see what all the smoke was from. They took her in and nursed her back to health. When she turned 15 she went off on her own to find another ship to ride with.

Shadow hoisted her bag over her shoulder, grimacing under it's weight. She saw a man bump into another person and saw someone else try to help the situation. She guessed that this would be her crew. Walking over she hailed them. "Ahoy, you gents and ladies looking to become a crew on a ship?" she asked, not yet hinting that she was the captain.

"Geez, Mom, could you hurry up? The Light Horizon will leave without us." The young Treasure Hunter whined. She crossed her arms, and stood in one corner of the supply shop.

"In just a minute, Luna dear. The Captain would not be so silly to leave without his doctor. Unless he figures out a way to heal scurvy by himself." Her mother replied, standing on tiptoe to reach a bottle of St. John's Wort on the top shelf. "Ah, good. That's all I need." Lydia Harlowe, doctor of the Treasure Hunter ship, the Light Horizon, gathered up all her bottles and herbs, then took them to the counter to pay. The young shopkeeper tallied up the total. "That'll be 65 gold, ma'am."

Luna squeaked over in the corner, and Lydia frowned. That was more than she was wanting to spend, but...

She took the required gold from the allowance the captain gave her, and handed it to the shopkeeper. With so many Treasure Hunters in the skies nowadays, more and more treasure was being snapped up, meaning less booty for the crew of the Light Horizon. Lydia needed to ration every gold piece she got, but who knows when you would find toadstool or hellebore again? "Thankew, ma'am." The shopkeeper handed her the bag of supplies.

"Let's go, Mom." Luna was already out the door, but had enough politeness to hold it open for Lydia. They walked along the cobblestone streets, back to the harbor.

"Hnn. Look's like their's some commotion over at the tavern." Luna commented, spying Shadow and Tsuki.

"Taverns are notorious for drunks." Lydia briskly replied, "It's no business of ours. Let us depart."

"Wait, I wanna see what they're talking about." Luna said, wandering over to the bar.

Salty wind rifled through Gwylan's hair, sending crimson tendrils to whip, dancing, across her face. She swept them back with a careless gesture. It really was an exercise in futility; her hair was so fine, bits of it would escape in a good wind no matter what she did. The gesture was as much rote and habit by now, as anything else.
But for now, she moved about on the deck of the Golden Light. There had been some adjustments made to the cannons, and she wanted to see how it worked.... So she shifted between them, checking fittings, trying angles. Nothing could be fired, of course; not here in port. That alone would have to be tested later. Maybe even in defense of the ship. But for now, the mechanics could be run through.
It was all going smoothly, as of now. Gwylan was pleased, and told her gunner team so. She was in the minority here; the rest of her little crew was men. But she had earned their respect, and they all listened to her. "Scarlet" Braith was one of them, and not one to be trifled with.

Age: 24
Gender: male
Appearance: Joseph (http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm295/anaraquekl/anime/pirate.jpg)
Personality: He's always been a rough guy. Serious and merciless, all he wants in life is more money. The only thing that can sway him of his lust for gold, is his lust for women. Though, secretly, he's quite the romantic. He may act like a womanizer, but is always a gentleman. You'll know if he likes you if you don't feel the cold steel of his blade against your chin.
WOC: A silver cutlass with a golden handle. Stolen, of course. He also carries a pouch of throwing daggers and has a mastery in just about any weapon you can think of.
History: At a very young age, he was dumped on the streets as an orphan. He scoured the streets for food and money, never choosing to beg. He'd rather die than beg. To get out of the pathetic life of stealing on the streets, he joined the Navy, but found no excitement there. While at sea, he heard tales of treasure and pirates. He knew immediatly what he wanted to become. Why is he a pirate? Money, power, women... and adventure.

Joseph McBride, a young man by the age of 24, strolled down the street of Port Hole Isle, looking for some place to rest for the night. He was rather tired even if the day was still young. The reason behind this sense of depravity, was a simple reason. Relatively. Joseph had been looking for a crew. The thing that shocked people most was his age.
"A Captain at the age of Twenty-four?!" most people had said, including most of his poor-as-dirt friends.
"Yeh," he had replied to them, "A Captain." before he usually punched them in the face.

These days, almost months after his decision, it had become apparant that he wasn't going to get anywhere without a crew. So he scoured this Port Hole Isle for scally-wags and theives to join. He walked past a familiar tavern, seeing a commotion outside. He ignored them, but not before winking at the female who had just joined the conversation.

He continued to the docks and stopped in front of the Golden Light. This was where he had decided to come, to try his luck with a lass he had been hearing tale of. Scarlet was her name, and even though she belonged to a differant crew, he couldn't help but try.

He tilted his head back at the ship and bellowed, "Scarlet!" and waited to see if there would be a reply from the ship.

Stretching from the poorly put together bed that had seen too many nights rest from people like her. The inn was above the tavern and the normal commotion was almost normal except for the yelling of the drunks and what was going on at the door. Esen frowned as she came down the steps. Glancing around she took in everything before getting herself a large mug of liquor to wake herself up.

Grabbing the mug and downing half of the drink in the gulp, she slammed it back down on the bar and turned to look back at the tavern's coming and goings. Sighing heavily, she gulped down the last of the rancid liquor and headed outside. She pushed her way through the people gathered outside of the bar and down to the docks. She knew she couldn't stay in the port much longer. She was looking to join another crew so she could avoid her captivity that was sure to be a death sentence.

As Gwylan worked, a voice broke through the cool salt-laden air. A voice calling her name- well, nickname, to be precise. But she answered to it as well as she did her own name. A male voice, one redolent with an essence of command. And a voice she didn't know.
Gwylan turned in that direction, strode to the balustrade. One hand hovered near the pistol on her hip, just in case.... Swiping the strands of hair whipping across her face yet again out of the way, she called, "Who goes there? State your name and business!" Her eyes quested about for he who had called to her.

Luna was tugged away from the crowd by her mother. Lydia's maternal radar went off once a woman who smelled of alcohol shoved her daughter out of her path.

"Mom! Maaaahhhmmm! Wait!" Luna yelled, failing, but her mother had an iron grip on her collar. Spectators smirked as she was drug away from the tavern. "How undignified!" Luna complained.

Lydia spun her daughter around to face her. "YOU listen to me, young lady. When I say 'let's go', it does not mean 'tomorrow'. You will NOT wander off to some bar, unless you would like to end up on the wrong side of a pistol." Her normally-soft voice lowered until it was ice cold. Luna looked away.

"Sorry, mama."

Her mother softened, and gathered her daughter into a tight embrace. "Oh, sweetie... I just don't want to lose you. You're all... all I have left."

"I know, Mom." Luna said simply, hugging her mom back. "C'mon, let's go before the Cap'n leaves us here."

Samir sat in a corner shrouded with darkness. The tavern was already a fairly poorly-lit place, but there were pockets of special darkness. He sat in shadows because he didn't like to be seen. Partly because he didn't like talking to people and drunk people talked a lot, and partly because sometimes people didn't like the color of his skin. He was not on Dhaval anymore, after all.
Samir was currently in between jobs. That last one hadn't panned out. The crew had abandoned him because they thought the dishes he cooked were too spicy. Which was something Samir could hardly help, having grown up where such spices were the normal meals, and not knowing the difference, really. And he thought they could have talked to him before deciding he wasn't worth keeping.
The thought suddenly occurred to him that sitting in a dark corner wouldn't get him a spot on a ship. So he rose and lurked over to the bar and ordered some ale.

Ah, there was the culprit. The fellow trying to act as a dashing cavalier.... Gwylan's mouth curved in a bit of a smirk. Someone who took the time to be that flamboyant.... Well, often they were all talk and little action.
But not always. A rare few used it as a means of distraction.... Best find out what sort this one was. "An offer? What sort of offer would that be?" She was direct, forthright. And try to get his measure before descending from the ship to talk to him on the level. It was a busy dock, but it had surely seen its share of activity, all the same.

"Why don't you come down, m'lady, so we can talk as civilized people?" he offered. It would be much easier to persuade her to join his crew if she were closer to him; close enough to use his manly charms. All the same, he could tell this girl had as fiery a spirit as hair.

Honestly, he was being.... Not smarmy, but somewhere close to it. Gwylan couldn't suppress the urge to snort. "None of that m'lady business is necessary. Just call me Scarlet, if you need to call me something." She wasn't giving him permission to use her first name at first meeting. Don't let men get too familiar too fast, or they might think you'll let them get familiar in other ways.... Gwylan had learned that the hard way. "Just state your business, so we can get this finished." Yup, thus far she was not all that impressed with any "charms" he may possess.

(Alright. :) )

Joshua suppressed a frown. This woman was tougher to crack than he once thought. But he shouldn't have expected anything less from her, and this brought a smile to his face.
"I see you are not one to be fooled or toyed with. This is good." he walked two steps closer to the ship. He scratched his chin, "Then I guess I should just tell you why I'm here."
He hesitated, wondering if this was the best way to tell Scarlet, but then cleared his throat and began, "I am starting a Treasure Hunting party and would like you to join the crew. Now, before you say anything, let me just say that there is a lot for you to gain from this, and only little to lose. I have a speedy frigate by the name of The Steel Maiden and all I need is a crew."
He layed it out rather quickly. Best not to give her too much time to think.

Gwylan watched him as he came closer. Why do I feel like I passed some sort of crazy test? When he was done, she rested her elbows on the railing, studying him. She took her time before replying, voice slow and vaguely sarcastic. "Let me get this straight. You're starting a group to go out and hunt treasure. You want me to come tag along. Just what, exactly, would I get out of this venture that would prompt me to leave behind a good position on a solid ship with an excellent gunner crew that I've got well-trained to know just what to do and do it at the right time? Hmm?" Her eyebrow quirked at him, expression almost ironic.

Joshua coughed nervously. He felt as if he were under a spotlight. He didn't like being asked so many questions, for he was raised to keep many secrets. He knew this girl would be even harder to win over now.
"I think there's one thing I can give you, that you'll never get on that ship." he mused, teasing her with this information for a good twenty seconds before continuing.
"I hear you're as good a fighter as any man, twice as good a leader, too. Scarlet," he threw her name in for extra emphasis, "I'd give you command as First Mate under me. That's almost twice the earnings of all the other ship mates and more than I reckon you make now."
He prayed to God this would work, or he'd have a lot more searching to do.

The sun was getting lower in the sky as the mother and daughter walked along the cobblestone path to the quay. Luna swaggered out in front, some distance from her mom. Not that she didn't enjoy Lydia's company, but respectable Treasure Hunters don't normally tag along with their mothers. However, she kept close enough to keep an eye on her. Her mom was still quite lovely, even after the bloom of youth, with green eyes the color of stolen emeralds. A few salt-encrusted sailors gave Lydia the eye, but Luna retorted with a killer glare.

As for Lydia, she checked over the merchandise, and thought about how useful they'd be in her sick bay. The crew was having some trouble with the flu lately, and--

Her thoughts were interrupted as she slammed into her daughter's back. "Luna Fina Harlowe! What on Earth--"

"LOOK!" Cried her daughter, her eyes glassy with tears. Lydia's eyes traveled to where her daughter pointed, and saw... nothing. Nothing, where a ship -- The Light Horizon -- should be.

"Stars have mercy! The wharf-rats -- they left us behind!" Luna wailed.

Lydia's heart felt like it was in her throat. If they were left, a fifteen-year-old girl and her mother, they would be easily prey for pirates, slavers, or stars knew what else. She swallowed, and forced herself to calm down. "Let's not panic." She whispered, resting a calming hand on her daughter's heaving shoulders. "Perhaps they had to move the ship somewhere else. Perhaps--"

"NO! Don't you get it? The Cap'n may have liked us, but those superstitious maggots in the crew probably convinced him that having us aboard was bad luck. Haven't we been finding only scarce little lately? Haven't the gunners been down with the flu? They told him it was all our fault! And now that scum has left us here, all alone!" Her tough facade broke, and she cried in her mother's arms. Lydia hugged her daughter close, and looked out towards the setting sun. For once in her life... she had no idea what to do next.

Gwylan idly played with a strand of her hair, making him wait in turn. Hey, two could play that game.... "First Mate, eh? Not a bad gig...." Her hip propped against the balustrade and she looked into space, thinking about it. "But as good a fighter as I am, how do you know I'd make a good one?" She didn't deny her combat skills; those were a set fact. But by the same token, a good fighter did not a good First Mate make, exclusively. "Why do you want me so bad, huh? Name: Tristan "skyshock" Morello
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Appearance: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/Astareal8290/warrior-4.jpg
Personality: Tristan lives for adventure and doesn't believe in worrying about the past or the future. "Ain't no use makin plans if your gonna die tomorrow" Live in the now, thats his philosophy. To the casual eye he's a reckless, fight happy fool that doesn't think his actions through but thats a little bit judgemental. Granted his methods are unorthadox, his manner brash and forthwright and his acions completely unpredictable but that unpredictability has earned him a name as one of the best boarders in the sky. When Tristan does something, he knows what he's doing... regardless of how spontaneaus it seems
WOC: Tristan can fight with pistols, glaives, knives and his fists but in the skies only one weapon makes him feel at home. "Angel" his signature weapon is unique, a mixture of blade and gun it facilitates his apparant love for unforseen action and has a trigger on the handle of the pistol for precise aiming and a trigger by the hilt for quickfiring
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/Astareal8290/Angel_by_malmida.jpg
History: Tristan always loved the sky, on his small island atop the windmill he'd always pretend he could fly and one day... one day he wanted to see the world. Youngest son of five, a simple farmers child he wanted to get away from the incessent torment of his older brothers. He first learned to fight at home, defending himself from the bullying of his own family but these skills were honed having sparring duels with any and all visitors and traders that would indulge him. One day, the captain of the light Horizon himself rose to the challenge. Both men fought to a standstill and impressed, the captain offered Tristan the position of head of the boarding party.
Job: Boarding party, unofficial first mate, shock troop

"Yes." he shrugged, "There are many others of which I'm sure would join First Mate. But there are no others of which have such an esteemed nature. Of course, I've heard you to be quite loyal... as far as pirates go. I don't trust anyone, Scarlet, and that's the truth. He was acting indifferent, but Gwylan suspected that that wasn't the case. For some reason, he wanted her on his ship. And it wasn't merely impersonal. "Esteemed nature, eh? I kind of like the sound of that." She gave him a saucy grin, now pivoting around so she perched on the railing of the ship. Feet kicking lightly, she said, "Tell you what. Give me a look at this vessel of yours, so I'd know what I was working with. Then I'll let you know if I think it's worth my while."

Scarlet glanced to her gunner crew. They'd been very studiously minding their own business. She wondered that if this ship suited her, whether the verbose captain would hire them on, as well as her.... She could personally attest to their skill. "I'll see you fellows later," she told them. "I've got some business to see to right now."
Gwylan glanced downward, gaging her distance. Yup, it wasn't too far.... She vaulted off the railing, dropping down the several feet to land lightly on the dock. Her hip c'ocked to the side, hand resting casually on her pistol there. And hm, a newcomer? And a volunteer? Interesting, that....

"Look... Mr Morello... if your captain isn't here to vouch for you you'll have to come back to the station again"
The watchman really was trying to be sympathetic but as he stared at the dock where the Light Horizon used to be, Tristan really wasn't in the mood for sympathy fake or real.
"Your being serious?"
Indredulity lent power to his voice as the watchman only shrugged as the burly guards behind him grinned wickedly.
"Piss off..."
Almost reaching for handle of his weapon as the two giants trudged forwards ready to put him in chains once more he thought better of it as he spotted figures in the distance
"'Ang on, 'Ang on a minute.." the sky pirate muttered quickly as a hand was placed on his arm firmly.
"I ain't 'Angin on at all, Not after you broke Larrie's arm like that" Came the grumbling reply from the brute that had decided to take the first move as Tristan's arm clenched.
"Piss off!" he said, louder this time, more firm. Even as he said it he was moving, arm whipping up to curl around his oppressors own as he brought a knee into the larger mans kidney. A sharp elbow down and the jailguards arm snapped, the resounding crack echoing across the dock as he screamed in pain. The billy club swung over Tristan's head as he put his weight on his left leg, sliding his right back so that his torso lowered before switching the weight and spinning. His left foot caught the second gaoler in the jaw and he crumpled swiftly, lips bleeding onto the wooden decking.

walking backwards in fear, stuttering as he read charges with a voice as shaky as his handwriting the watchman tried to lay down two more charges of assault and a charge of Grievous bodily harm against the psychopath advancing on him.
Gods.... oh gods... he's drawing his bloody sword, please don't kill me!
He tried to sound firm, authoritative as the figure advanced but he could only shield his face with one arm as he backed against a wall.
"Look... your just doing your job, I appreciate that I really do..."
He certainly sounded sincere... but he'd just lain two guards flat for trying to arrest him, what did he know of a guardsman's job?
"And I appreciate that it really isn't going to look good on your part if these two get up and find me gone... especially if your stood there writing things down like a prat right?"
Willam, the guardsman only nodded.
"Well as long as we're agreed"
With a shrug, Tristan smiled... before landing a right hook on Willam's jaw. Willam sighed as his vision blurred
At least no one will think I didn't try to stop him...

Tristan trotted down the street quickly scanning left and right for any sign of the Light Horizon.
****!
No-where... not a bloody dickybirds, not a single sign of the ship or it's crew as he advanced upon a moderately sized ship berthed close by as an attractive woman in red vaulted down towards a rather poncy looking young pirate.
Christ.. could he make it any more obvious?
Everything about him said pirate, from the way he stood to the ****y self-aggrandizing attitude, even the way he dressed screamed pirate... He obviously had a bit of cash, his clothes attested to that but from what Tristan could see... the redhead looked to be a better lead.
"Oy... any o'you seen the Light 'Orizon hereabouts?"

And another newcomer had just shown up. "The Light Horizon?" Gwylan glanced around at the words. That had been the ship berthed next to her own, the Star Horizon; in fact, the two were owned by the same fleet. He was a wild-looking sort; if she wasn't missing her guess, he'd been in a fight not long ago.
She swept her straggling threads of hair off her face another time. Honestly, no matter what she did, it caught in the wind like milkweed floss.... "Yeah, I saw it. It took off about fifteen minutes ago. So if you were looking for passage on it, sorry." He'd just been a little too slow....

Smirking, Esen crossed her arms over her chest. Before she even opened her mouth to answer another male came over to them. Her eyes took him in quickly. "They left earlier. Word 'round the dock is they left three members of 'er crew." She'd listened carefully. She always had need to, and some of it turned out to be useful. Other times, it helped her know when to get on a ship and get out of there as soon as possible. Angling her head over at the captain said, "The name's Esen," she pointed her right thumb at herself. "The Star?... good vessel that one, nice and maneavurable she is. Ain't often you see gunwork like yours either... fair pretty watching those cannon go off in tandem I tell ye, Captain always admired it"
Smiling as he gulped down the sweet spirit and spat it out laughing as the skinny girl jerked a thumb at him
""I'm a boarder but I'm not so dumb, I know a thing or two about the helm and navigating."
Winking at the redhead he smiled as he threw her the bottle and stretched his back, Angel visbile over his shoulder.
"I'd be careful what you say miss, you might offend someone one day"
He said, it was a veiled threat, badly veiled indeed but he said it light heartedly to ease the mood.
"You ever done a blockade run? Some tight flyin that is love... Us and the star made a few in our day... Only two ships to make it out of Valeria when the Navy came a chasin we were"
He straddled a box behind him and sat casually, incaring for his current company and the brash attitude the two displayed.
"I've served on twelve different ships and I always made my way back to the Light..."
Three men left behind...
"Any news on who they left?

"Any news on who they left?"
" 'Dunno," he gave and shrugged his shoulders, "I don't keep track very well of everything. Phoenix? That was a new one. Gwylan gave him a slightly bemused look as she caught the bottle. "So my reputation's preceded me even further. Thanks for the accolades; you've got good taste in gunners." She winked impishly before taking a swig of the rice wine. "Good taste in liquor, too." She hadn't had any of that stuff for a while. It burned on the way down, but it was a good burn.... "But yeah, the Star's a beaut. That's why this new proposition's got to give me something really special, to draw me away from it...." Either a fabulous ship, or some equally fabulous guns. Speaking of which, the erstwhile captain in question looked rather put out about someone stealing some of his thunder. And if they beat me, I hope they stick around for another round." She was smiling now. Looking over at the weapon on his back, her smile only grew wider. She loved poking and prodding at other people's weapons, mainly because they weren't hers. Absentmindedly, she started tapping her fingers on the handle of her cutlass. "As for the others they left behind." She shrugged. "Don't know that one. No one's say'n." As for the talk of sailing the ships, she had never been in so much danger as of what he spoke, but she knew the dangers of flying the storms. Tristan could only laugh as she outright challenged him in the middle of the docks, intentionally or not and looked wistfully at his saké bottle, still in the hands of old red.
"The name's Morello, Skyshock Morello and Phoenix here must be goin by the name of Scarlett if she's in charge of the gunnery on the Star..."
In one quick movement, smooth and fluid he reached over his shoulder and flung Angel so quickly it was lying point first at a sixty degree slant before the eye registered that it had left his hand.
"That there's Angel, she's a relic from before the cleansing, sorta like the Star itself in some ways eh?"
He laughed halfheartedly as he looked the challenger in the eye and winked
"Go ahead, take a look... Your rapier's sure are pretty but they ain't got half the power of Angel, and you ain't got 'alf the experience of I"
Pressing a palm into the wood below him he pushed up and felt himself fall the few feet to the docks as he walked over to Gwylan and took a swig from the bottle, cord still around her own wrist.
"Got a feelin' I know who's been left anyway, but you'd be hard pressed to win em over unless you've got my 'elp"
A little twist of his neck and eye contact broke with the would-be captain.
Gwylan Braith...
His eye's bored into her own, searching for a clue of her intentions and wondered what she was thinking right now. Without saying a word he nodded his head slightly, almost imperceptible but glancing at the star tattooed on her arm he knew she'd notice, there wasn't much she'd miss

Esen eyes got wide as a full smile broke over her face. She openingly stared at it. She reached out to touch it and didn't stop herself. She felt along the blade and up to the gun part. Ignoring the words of her experience, she kept feeling at the weapon. "Correction on your part. A cutlass and a rapier are two different things." But she quickly went back to examining his weapon. She didn't seem to mind that the other woman was getting more attention then she was. In the end it was a good thing, less money on her head when she was finally caught. But she never did like being downed. She knew her worth and she fought to prove it all the time. If she couldn't win, she'd go down swinging with a smile on her face. Never caring that she might die from the stunts she pulled, only caring about the feelings that came out of them.

Gwylan met his gaze, deliberate and unflinching. He'd seen the star on her arm; did he know what it meant? She deliberately made no move to pull down her sleeve, cover it up. That would be yielding. And this was one moment where she would not give so much as an inch.
Instead, she nonchalantly tossed her hair out of her face again before taking another swig of the rice wine. Then, she just as nonchalantly flipped it back at him. "Catch." Naturally he would. This was a quick one.... Perhaps too quick.
She wondered just what it was he was up to. He knew who she was, what she did. Gwylan had no false modesty about her skills, but two men at once who knew her reputation as a gunner? And here I didn't even know I was that famous. Instead, she merely said, "Nice weapon." With a lot of other men, she'd have made a quip about over-compensating for something. But this seemed like someone who might not be so receptive to such wordplay.

((Let's see if I can catch with everyone here...))

Lydia still had a close eye on her daughter as Luna went from person to person, asking about the state of the Light Horizon. The woman herself kept to the shadows; a spotless white nurse's uniform would draw attention here in the gritty wharf.

'Please hurry, Luna...' A slow, nauseous feeling crept up her chest. The last time she felt this way was when... when they told her Jakob wasn't coming back.

Lydia withdrew a small, heart-shaped locket from inside her dress. A small portrait of herself and Jakob was inside, smiling as they posed on their wedding day. 'Such happier times...' the doctor thought, smiling sadly.

"Hey, Mom!" Luna came jogging up to her. Her green eyes revealed barely-contained sadness... and fear. "Bad news. Old salt up at the tavern says the Light Horizon left port a half-hour ago. Saw it go himself. Cap'n Rey, that sea-scum, left us here." She looked up at her mother expectedly, not saying the question her eyes asked: Now what?

Lydia allowed herself to heave a worried sigh, then rubbed her temples. She had no idea if any of the inns would be safe for her and her daughter. Any of the wind-chapped sailors eyeballing them right now could be a slaver... or worse. The woman mulled over the options in her mind. There weren't many.

"Oy, Mom! Look! It's whats-his-face, Morello! Remember? From the ship?"

Lydia's eyes followed to wear Luna pointed, and, indeed, she saw the head of the Light Horizon's boarding party, with his familiar weapons slung across his back. "He was left behind too? How very odd..."

"Looks like he's talking with a bunch o' other people." Luna said excitedly, happy to find someone she recognized. "Maybe they can give us passage to the next port. That's probably where Cap'n Rey was headed."

"Now, Luna, we don't even know those people. They could be pirates, or--"

"It'll be fine, Mom! C'mon!" Luna ran off in the direction of the four people on the docks. "HOOOOY! SKYSHOCK! MISTER MORELLO! Hey! Hey!"

Lydia sighed, 'That girl of mine, I swear...' She walked after the teenage Treasure Hunter, keeping a safe distance from the others, yet a close eye on her exuberant daughter.

Joshua smiled. He already liked this girl's straight-forwardness. He turned to her and a smile played upon the edges of his lips, but he thought it too soon to smile or even act as if he cared.
"You assume correctly, my dear lady." he began. "Pray tell me what your name is and why I should let you join my crew."

(Okay, most of us are all down by the docks right now. The ship that Tristan, Lydia, and Luna were all signed on to sailed without them; in the meantime, our would-be pirate captain Joshua has been trying to persuade Gwylan to sign on with him instead of the ship she's been sailing with, and Esen stepped forward to volunteer, upon hearing this. That's the summary as I see it right now. All clear?)

Samir had left the tavern now, wondering if he'd land a job tonight. Chances are he wouldn't, since he'd been unemployed for quite a while now, but he was still feeling optimistic enough to stay out. Normally, it seemed the tavern was the best place to go to look for work, but perhaps not tonight. He didn't know why he was feeling this fortunate all of a sudden. He ordinarily had a habit of looking at life in a slightly dimmer light.
He decided the harbor would be a good place to continue his search. Samir was almost immediately rewarded by overhearing some conversation regarding joining a ship. He decided to lurk around for a bit, see what it was all about.
As he listened discreetly to the conversation, he thought desperately that perhaps he would, in fact, be hired tonight. After all, Samir did have a needed skill. Even if it was probably disputable whether it was indeed a skill he possessed. Either way, no one had to know that before he had the job.
Confidently, as though it didn't matter to him in the least whether he might be interrupting a conversation, Samir strode up to young punk who appeared to be the captain.
"Do you plan on eating during your voyage?"

(No problem! Sometimes you need clarification. Though this does look like it's getting to be fun. :) I wish the game owner would participate, though.... Oh, and the "young punk" comment made me laugh.)

So wait. This rough and tumble type knew those two... well, ladies? The older one was definitely "lady" material, at least. The younger one was too exuberant.... Gwylan felt a twinge of recognition. She'd been a lot like that at right about that age, herself. When she'd thrown caution to the winds and stowed away on a ship called the Marauder.... In retrospect, that name should have been a clue.
And now, to make matters even more interesting... another volunteer? This one a man, in his late twenties from the look of it. Dusky of feature and voice. Gwylan had seen- even met- such individuals in her travels over the past few years, but it had been a while.
But better make Mr. Captain wait a bit, if I decide to take on, Gwylan thought idly, grinning a bit to herself. Two volunteers at once would likely go to his head. Yup, better keep him in his place by making him sweat a bit.... She idly snared the rice wine bottle back from Tristan, taking a drink of it before restoring it to him.

Tristan sighed heavily as he shook the nigh empty bottle and drained the remaining contents
Why is it that these people bother to volunterr to serve on a ship run by a man with no crew to speak of, no ship on display and nothing specific on offer?
Shaking his head as he threw the bottle over the edge and sighed. Thinking about his current predicament he was forced to remind himself of his situation
I've enough money for a few weeks at most, the watch are most likely looking for me already, I havn't eaten a decent meal since I was arrested and I havn't tasted decent Ale in weeks

Well... there was only one thing for it wasn't there?
"I'm going for a drink!"
It seemed a bit random, the way he just blurted it out like that... but he couldn't expect everyone to follow his own thought process could he?
"I'll be at the Blind Wing, find me when you've got a decent passage agreement and I'll come along as an escort free of charge doctor, Sure y'could use a friendly arm on your trip"
Nodding politely he whistled as he turned on his heel. Three paces and smiling, he looked back, inclining his head at Gwylan. An unspoken invite in his eyes as he winked

Tristan span at the voice, weapon snatched as he did so then eased it onto his back as he saw the familiar face.
"Hoyyy! So they left you 'ere to eh?"
He smiled as the slight young thing ran over to where he stood, attracting as much attention for her developing figure as her outlandish sense of style. Shrugging as if it was no big deal he laughed
"You wern't in the cells last night like some of us, what's your excuse then?"
His eyes caught a flash of white further back as he saw Lydia emerging through the bustling street and tocuhed his forelock in respect
"Aigh't miss Harlowe? Sorry to see you left here like this but I'd be 'appy t'escort you til we get back to the Light, least I could do the 'mount o'times you patched me up"

Luna snorted. "Please! As if me an' Mom would want to go back to that scum Rey's dingy vessel. The wharf-rat left us here all alone! Can you believe that, Skyshock?!" She playfully punched Tristan's arm.

"Mind your language, Luna." Lydia chided gently. She felt awkward around these other people in her white uniform. She stared at Tristan's face in shock, "Oh, my stars, Mr. Morello! Were you in an altercation?"

Luna rolled her green eyes, "Shoot, no, Mom. Looks like he was in a fight."

"That's what I said, Luna. I do have some aloe for those cuts, it'll stop the stinging. And you'll need to put some peroxide on them as well, to ward off infection. And--"

"Moooom...!" Her daughter said, in a voice that clearly implied she was talking too much. She looked to the other members of the conversation. "So! Who's the Cap'n of this motley crew?"

Her belligerance earned her a smack on the head from her mother. "Mind your tongue and your manners, young lady." She whispered to her daughter.

Gwylan chuckled. The girl was more and more like her teenage self by the minute.... This exchange rang all too familiar. "The captain would be yon fellow there," she said, a hand waving towards Joshua- a deliberately grandiose gesture, lightly poking fun at the semi-florid manner in which he had been behaving earlier. "You know, the one with more braid on his coat than ammo in his gun." Too much braid- typically another instance of over-compensation. That, or too much wealth than the individual knew what to do with.
But if she wasn't mistaken, yon scrapper was inviting her to join him for a drink. She grinned, and couldn't help a wink back. If nothing else, seeing the exchange would get the would-be captain's goat, no doubt.... "As grand as a drink sounds, I think I need to go have a look at this vessel I've been invited to sign on to. Like I said, I'm not agreeing to anything until I've had a look at it. But after that... I'd be more than happy to drink you under the table." Yup, a quiet note of challenge, in those words.... Gwylan hadn't had a good carouse for some time.

Tristan turned as Lydia fussed and fretted and took it all with a smile, humouring the good womans well wishing.
"I'm fine... Just a little punch up with some guards is all, told me I had to go back to the guardhouse with them coz old Rey wasn't around to vouch for me! Can you believe that?"
Feigning humour before Luna piped in with her question, now he genuinely laughed
"Well the captain of THAT motley crew isn't around, but Phoenix there's lookin after 'em for now" He smiled warmly at the enthusiastic young girl still smarting from her mothers quick slap while he pointed at the Star Horizon. Looking up as Gwylan spoke he smiled satiracally
"The captain would be yon fellow there,"
Chuckling lightly he patted Luna on the head and flicked a copper to her with a wink
"Well... he calls himself a captain anyway"
Leaning into her ear he whispered as if he was imparting a dark secret
"Since he doesn't have a crew to speak of yet..."
With a twinkle in his eye he waved as he called over his shoulder
"You'll find me in the Blind Wing like I said m'good doctor, The coins so your littl'un c'n come get me when your ready to sail. The Blind Wing's also where you'll find me if y'care to take up your own challenge too Phoenix, now if you'll excuse me I've ale and stew to be gettin"

"I'll see you that ale and raise you two more!" Gwylan called over merrily. A drink and some stew sounded awfully appealing just now, really.... But she wasn't getting into drinking before seeing this new ship she had been offered a position on. She had to keep her senses sharp, so as to watch for tricks and omissions. "You keep a seat for me at the bar!" But afterwards was going to be fun. Not to mention that she planned to find out just why he'd given her that new nickname. Phoenix.... I like it, by why?...

"May the sun shine warm upon you and the wind fill your sails." Lydia waved as well, with a more formal goodbye.

"Hey, Mom, with the money we already have, this might get us a room at a respectable inn tonight... if there IS one in this dive." She grinned at her mom, who ruffled her brown hair.

Lydia was about to leave, when she remembered something. She turned to Joshua. "Begging your pardon, sir, but if your vessel is in need of a doctor, I would be happy to oblige. Given the right herbs and salves, I can cure most anything."

"'Cept a broken heart. Well... Mom can do that, too." Luna chimed in, earning her a look from her mother. "Hey, Mom, I'll go inquire in that fancy hotel up yonder about their rates." She walked off toward her destination.

Beowulf

A man was sleeping on the docks, He looked a little wealthy but then again there was a hint of poverty as well. It was sad to say but he had no where to stay. He laid on the dock his white hair partially covering his face. He was sleeping soundly even though there were a lot of noises around he found peace and quiet. A sword at his waist with a wicked curve and exotic weapon of choice but it was something of his own creation. It was an understatement to say that he had nothing. This man was a perfect example of a nobody. No one knew him as far as he knew, and anyone he knew where probubly long gone by now. He gave a seafaring life for this... sleeping on the docks waiting for chance and opportunity. Figure of speech he always had the sign on his forehead saying if opportunity finds me wake me up.

Tristan walked along the dock's idly as he kept a spare eye out for the city watch.. they'd probably be out in force later. Whistling softly (The piano introduction to his theme song) he smiled warmly at the thought of his day. Sure.. getting arrested wasn't too fun, and he didn't really like hurting those guards but he wasn't just gonna sit in some cell because a halfwit started a fight last night...
Phoenix... he had to admit... she had charm, a bit rough around the edges but she could be a gem one day. What about that poncy twat with the cutless? Well, he was definately not a natural pirate, but he certainly had goals, even if he was stuck up his own arse and that naive girl that wanted to join him... well, she was pretty similar to him actually. Scant years younger and too proud for her own good she'd learn the trade soon enough. Turning his head as he passed a bench he laughed as he kicked the silver haired street punk gently in the side and leant in close
"Does a drink count as opportunity?"

Beowulf

Udiu opened his eyes "A drink you say?" he pondered the man's words "Well sir it depends on who is buying" he gave a sly grin. He couldn't do much besides laugh this was a first in years. His eyes lighting up hoping that this man was a captain or something or at least some one that could get him on a ship he urned badly to sail again. "unless you are wanting me to pay in that case you are mistaken for i have no money" He was hoping the man was paying.

"'Side's you've got that look bout's ya, similar to me I'm reckoning"
The man's eyes were a peculiar shade of green, deep and thoughtful as the man sat up blearily. Thinking himself, Tristan mused on the situation as he slid his sword to sit at a different angle so he could lie back.
"Why are you sleepin out here anyway.... I mean, I was probably gonna use this bench tonight"
Laughing he extended a hand
"Tristan Morello, I do believe our best chance of a good drink tonight is to run away without paying"

Beowulf

Udiu took his hand and shook it. "Well it seems like our drink wont happen good sir." he gave a slender smile. "I don't steal anymore, the names Udiu." He sat back observing the sun going down. "I cam here hoping to get aboard a ship without my past interfering." He looked down "It probubly will never leave me..." He closed his eyes thinking back on the old times the sea faring times.. the times when he would man the helm.. The good days.. He traded it all for an honest life one where he spends the day sulking in his sorrow and sleeping his life away. What better way to die? Oh well too late now its time to change, time to grow up and become a better man.

(We could find his address and threaten to... (cough) never mind.

I'd like to make a captain, but I want Xenbas's okay first, if he/she is still around.

So right now, to give the RPG life support, I'll make it so Luna and Lydia find themselves another ship.)

It took a bit of asking around at the port, during which Lydia kept her daughter on a tight leash, but they managed to find a good lead. Luna had talked to an old salt, who had talked to his buddy, who talked to HIS buddy, who talked to the gunner of a reputable ship who was in need of a doctor. The salt wrote down an address and gave it to Luna, who now waved it in triumph as she and her mother walked down the street.

"I can't believe it! We're actually gonna get another ship! Isn't that great, Mom?"

Lydia nodded in assent. "Indeed. The sooner we get out of here..." she noticed a few crusty sailors staring at her in her nurse's uniform, "...the better."
