Lucky. City life must be awesome. Sucks they don't show much, though.

Dad got to see them at Ozzfest, in Dallas this year. He says they killed with their performance.

robert that's who they replaced him with i could never remember that

Actually they replaced Cliff Burton with Jason Newsted who played with Metallica for 14 or so years, making him their longest serving bass player and, according to my friend, (who is a bass player, himself) their best. That is, until the band drove him off with cruelty. They've stated they don't want to make the same mistake with Robert Trujillo.

SasukeChan
08-15-2008, 08:40 PM
Drove him away? What I heard is that Jason left to be in another band. If you've seen Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster (on VH1), it tells a little about it.

But I still like Robert.

black_wreath
08-17-2008, 02:10 AM
In Some Kind Of Monster, James admits he and the others were as much to blame for Jason leaving, personally i'm suprised he lasted as long as he did. If Metallica hadn't of restricted Jason (both in Metallica and his own outside musical ventures) he would still be in te band. Jason only got one writing credit in his debut album with them (...And Justice For All) on the opening song Blackened (one of my personal favorites) even though he wrote every song for his former band Flotsam & Jetsam himself. Also the bass on that album is almost completely mixed out, the mixing of that album was done by Lars and James. Outside of music the band's new-guy-hazing was pretty nasty and according to Jason it never stopped, 5 years in the band and he was still being initiated. It was only until Lars and Kirk wanted to take the band in a more Alternative direction that James accepted him, as they both wanted to keep Metallica Metal. Cliff and Rob are both awesome bass players but Jason was the best and even though Metallica are my 2nd favorite band, I think they wasted his talent.

But Echobrain sucked. Thank god he's now in Voivod.

Hm. Good point, Wreath. I see where you're coming from.

I didn't like Echobrain much either.

Voivod are pretty legendary, they've been around almost as long as Metallica. They're known for their strange, futuristic style. Admittedly I haven't heard as much as I should have of their music, only a few tracks.

SasukeChan
08-30-2008, 04:58 AM
They're okay. Just not my favorite band. Yet.

So, how's everybody doing?

I'm definitely watching them like a hawk for any hints to a possible Australian tour in the future, i'm hoping that doesn't equate to simply a Big Day Out spot as that festival is always full of crappy indie bands and as much as I would suffer for my beloved 'Tallica, there's only so much one man can take....

SasukeChan
09-14-2008, 03:51 AM
Indie bands? What do they have to do with Metallica? Gross!

black_wreath
09-16-2008, 09:00 AM
The Big Day Out organisers like 'mix it up' by making 95% of bands at the festival indie rock or alternative rock and maybe 1 or 3 Metal bands or rappers as either ticket sellers or sideshows.

SasukeChan

We just bought and printed out the tickets a few minutes ago, it's pretty much official. Dad and I are seeing Metallica November 18th!
