Kyssa walked slowly through the forest, swearing under her breath as she hit her foot on a root. She shook her head and went on, wondering how to get out of here.

Zarr snickered softly to himself, seeing a possible next host. He swiftly clapped a hand over the girl's mouth, and one arm around her, restraining her arms to her sides.

Dianne stood a few feet away, rocking a baby gently in her arms. She sung softly to the baby, then looked up at the girl that her master had just captured. She gave the girl a sympathetic look.

Kyssa's eyes widened in fear and she struggled against her captor, suddenly furious. She sighed as she realized it was no use, looking up at a girl not far away. Kyssa gave her a desperate look, trying to turn and see who had grabbed her.

Zarr dragged her back towards his home. "Dianne!" He barked, "Come!" He wasn't very careful about being gentle. He kicked open the door of his house and dragged Kyssa inside. He threw her in a room, "Dianne! Tend to the host!" He walked off haughtily.

Dianne kissed the baby's head softly, setting it down in a cradle. She walked over to Kyssa, "Are you alright?" She asked softly, examining Kyssa. "He's rough, but he never hurts us for his own entertainment," She started quietly, "He just doesn't care if we're hurt by accident..."

Kyssa looked up, tenderly rubbed a bruise. "Why am I here? Who is he?"

Dianne gently smacked Kyssa's hand away from the bruise. "He is Zarr, a vampire. You are going to be his new host." Dianne gave her a sympathetic smile, "I'm afraid I can't do much to help you, other than get you what you need. I wish I could help you escape...that way I could get my baby out of here..." She sighed softly. "Is anything else injured besides that bruise?"

Kyssa shook her head slowly. "No, I'm not hurt anywhere else...but why? Why me? Or does he just pick random women without thinking?" She swore under her breath and stood.

"Yes and no. He finds the closet girl that he can find to use as a host. Originally he was going to use me, but he couldn't take elven blood." Dianne gave her a sad smile. "Promise me something. If we do end up finding a way for you to get out, I want you to take my baby and find a man for me. Can you promise me that you will?"

Kyssa eyed her for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Yes." She grimaced at the pain, looking up. "What do we do in the meantime? When will he...you know..." She broke off, shuddering.

Dianne gave a sad smile, her eyes looking empty as ever, "Yes. He will feed off you." She scooped up her baby, "Are you hungry?"

Kyssa shivered slightly and sighed. "Well, it can't be helped." She looked up at the mention of food. "Y-yes."

Dianne smiled at her, "Come with me." She led the way out of the room and to the kitchen. "I'm sorry he had to catch someone, especially someone kind like you, but I couldn't distract him, he'd punish me..."

Kyssa shook her head. "It's fine." She gave a nervous laugh, looking away. "I guess that I had this sort of fate coming anyway..." A single tear rolled down her cheek.

Dianne looked at Kyssa sadly, "You poor dear..." She opened one arm to hug Kyssa, "Come here..."

Kyssa looked up and whimpered softly. She closed her eyes and hugged Dianne.

Dianne hugged her back, "It'll be alright dear...everything will turn out alright."

Zarr stalked into the room, "Dianne! Give me my host, I'm hungry!"

Dianne glared at Zarr, her gentle eyes flaring, "She's not a soft drink! Nor is she a snack that you can munch on any time!!!"

Kyssa pulled away, looking up at Zarr. Her eyes flared in hatred, and she turned away from him, her dark hair swishing lightly.

Zarr growled dangerously, "DIANNE!!!"

Dianne shrunk back, pulling Kyssa with her. "No. You can't just treat her badly..."

Zarr sighed irritatedly, "Fine, but you can't let me die, I've got my secret weapon Dianne." He looked at her baby.

Dianne pulled her baby away and sighed, "Yes...sir." She gave Kyssa an apologetic look.

Kyssa gave Dianne a look that said, "It's not your fault." She turned back to face Zarr, glaring at him but trembling inside.

Dianne stepped back, "Zarr...where is she?"

Zarr shrugged, "How should I know? She has free reign of this place." He turned back to Kyssa. He pulled her close, his mouth near her ear for a moment, "Don't worry, it only stings for a moment." He moved his mouth to her neck, biting down.

Kyssa's eyes widened and she yelped slightly in pain as he bit down. She gripped the rim of her skirt, resisting the urge to tear away as he drained her.

Zarr let go, giving a satisfied sight, "Ah." He wiped blood off of his mouth. He walked off, "Until I'm hungry again."

Dianne touched Kyssa's arm gently, "Are you alright my dear? Need anything?" She had her baby cradled in one arm.

Kyssa shivered and lightly touchd where he had bitten her. She looked back to Dianne, her eyes betraying her fear. "N-no...I'm fine..." She laughed nervously. "Just a bit startled is all." She shook slightly, feeling her knees go weak as she collapsed.

Dia walked around the house, humming softly. She wondered where her mother was, and walked inside.

Dianne got some water and handed it to Kyssa, "Drink this, you'll feel better." She put down her baby in its crib.

Dia walked up to the host room, hearing her mother's voice. "Mama?" She called as she slowly opened the door.

Dianne looked at the door, "Come in my child." She smiled slightly, "That would be Dia, my eldest child."

Dia jumped slightly. "Is this...the new girl, Mama?"

Kyssa did her best to smile. "H-hello."

"Yes dear, this is the new host." She held out her arms for her daughter.

Dia smiled slightly and ran into her mother's arms. She glanced momentarily to Kyssa. "I'm sorry. But no one can change his mind."

Kyssa sighed. "It's fine. there's nothing to be done about it, anyway."

Dianne scooped up her eldest, kissing her forehead, "How was your day today Dia? Did you explore?"

Dia nodded slowly. "I went around the eastern border, and there were a couple of fishermen there. I watched them for a while, and they even let me try loosing the net." She smiled at her mother.

Kyssa smiled slightly, remembering her childhood

"Thanks wonderful dear." Dianne smiled, "What are you planning for tomorrow?" She touched her cheek against her daughter's, sighing softly. Dia looked so much like him.

Dia thought for a moment. "I spotted a fallen nest today, so I'm going to go look for it tomorrow. Maybe I can still save the eggs." She smiled brightly.

Dianne smiled, tapping her child's nose, "Very nice idea." She set down her child and patted her head, "Now go have some fun, and remember, if you find daddy, tell him mommy said hi."

Dia smiled. "Okay Mama!" She waved and ran off.

Kyssa smiled. "She seems like a wonderful little girl."

Dianne smiled, "She really is." She glanced around for a moment, "You know...Zarr has never been that gentle when feeding..."

Kyssa looked up. "What do you mean?"

"He usually bites multiple times and gores his host's neck..." Dianne said softly, "You, he only bit once, and he made sure it was a clean bite."

Kyssa raised an eyebrow. "What does that mean? Why didn't he do that to me?"

Dianne smiled mysteriously, "Oh, it could mean something, or nothing. I think it's something we old foggies like to call falling in love." She smiled again, "Now, I'll go get to work on your new clothes." She sat down at a sewing machine.

Kyssa frowned slightly and laid back on the bed, lightly touching her bite mark again. "Maybe..." She whispered to herself.

Dianne quickly finished sewing and handed the gown to Kyssa, "There you are my dear. If you need anything, I'll be in my room, it's right down the hall." She picked up her baby and headed down the hall.

Kyssa nodded. "Thank you." She closed the door slowly behind Dianne and slipped into the dress, marveling at the craftsmanship. She sat back on the bed, leaning against the wall. Kyssa thought about what Dianne had said, twirling a lock of hair around her finger. "Maybe...he probably has a heart underneath all that..." She shook it off and laid back, falling asleep.

The next morning, Zarr (who doesn't sleep) was leaning over Kyssa, smiling slightly while he knew she couldn't see him. "So beautiful...." He lightly touched her face, hoping it wouldn't wake her up.

Dianne was beginning her duties of the day.

Dia trotted into the kitchen. "Morning Mama!" She called cheerily, hugging her mother around the middle.

Kyssa stirred slightly, turning over and opening her eyes slowly. She jolted up, startled, as she saw Zarr.

Dianne smiled, "Good morning Dia." She patted her child's head then hugged her. "Did you have a nice sleep?"

The tips of Zarr's ears were red, but other than that, he didn't seem to be blushing, "Er...good morning. I..uhh...breakfast time?" He said, trying to make up an excuse.

Kyssa slowly eyed him, remembering why she was there. "Oh, yes. I forgot."

Dia nodded slowly, yawning. "Yep. But I didn't see Master Zarr anywhere..."

Zarr leaned forward, gently sinking his fangs into her neck, trying not to hurt her. He drank some of her blood, then pulled back, "Did that hurt?" He asked a little anxiously.

Dianne smiled, "I knew it..." She patted her daughter's head, "Looks like Master Zarr has fallen in love."

Kyssa frowned in confusion. "Nooo..."

Dia tilted her head curiously. "Really Mama? I thought he wasn't one to care for things like that..."

Zarr looked a little relieved, then he realized he was acting 'strange'. He quickly shook it off, "Good. Then you should be ready for my next feeding by noon. Sharp." He stood up, he knew his ears were bright red, the closest he got to a blush.

Dianne gave a soft laugh, "I was beginning to think that too dearest."

Dia smiled slightly and hugged her mother. "We'll just have to wait and see what happens, huh?"

Kyssa tilted her head curiously as he left, wondering if something was wrong. "He seems like a different person..." She shook it off and went downstairs, finding Dianne and Dia in the kitchen. "Good morning," She yawned.

Zarr leaned against the wall in his room, bopping himself in the head, "Snap out of it Zarr! You're a vampire, not a human! Not anymore at least..."

Dianne smiled, "Good morning Lady Kyssa. Sleep well? Did the master wake you?"

Kyssa tilted her head slightly. "Yeah, but what's with the formality?" Why is everyone so different today? She thought to herself. She slowly walked over and sat at the table.

Dia looked up to her mother. "I'm going out for a while, Mama." She waved and walked out the back door.

"Alright dear." Dianne said, waving to her daughter. She turned to Kyssa, "He loves you dearest. He left me a note saying that I should make sure that your room is spotless." She smiled, "What's it like to have a man that's like a puppy? I can't remember anymore..." She sighed softly.

Kyssa frowned slightly and shook her head. "No, that can't be..." But it would explain his behavior earlier, She thought.

"Kyssa, come here." Dianne beckoned to her, a soft smile on her face.

Kyssa jumped slightly and stood, approaching Dianne. "Yes?"

Dianne put her hand under Kyssa's chin, lifting up her face, "Don't tell him that you know. He'll deny it." She let go, "And dear, please give him a chance."

Kyssa blushed slightly. "I...I...I don't think that he likes me, though..." She sighed, looking away. "I mean, after being so gentle earlier, he suddenly snapped back to being...himself. What do you think that means?" She gave Dianne a desperate look.

Dia ran happily through the forest, laughing lightly.

Dianne giggled, "It means he was trying to cover up his feelings for you sweet."

Kyssa frowned slightly. "Are you sure? It didn't seem like that..." She blushed slightly, remembering waking up to his face.

"Mhm." Dianne raised an eyebrow disbelievingly. "I'm sure trying to kiss you in your sleep counts as not liking you."

Kyssa looked up, turning crimson. "I-I never said anything like that!" She gave Dianne a look of indignance.

Dianne laughed, "But you were thinking it, weren't you." She tapped Kyssa's nose, "Dear, I know what it's like to be in love."

Kyssa looked away sheepishly. "Are you a mind reader or something?" She frowned slightly at Dianne, then sighed. "I just don't know what to think of him..."

"Dear, I've spent twenty years of my long life trying to figure him out." She gave a small laugh, "I still don't get him. I can just tell how he's feeling." She hummed softly, "Trust me, if you can see his soft side, you'll fall in love instantaneously."

Kyssa sighed softly. "I feel like I don't know anything anymore...like my whole life has been turned upside-down, just by meeting Zarr..." She shook off the feeling and stood, walking from the kitchen. On her way back to the spare room, Kyssa accidentally bumped into Zarr in the hallway.

Zarr bowed apologetically, then mentally (and literally) slapped himself in the face, trying to snap out of it.

Dianne laughed softly, then stopped, sighing. "Where are you?" She whispered sadly.

Kyssa raised an eyebrow slowly. She shook offf the feeling and ducked her head, walking past into her room. She just wanted to avoid interacting with Zarr. It was strange; every time she was near him it felt like she froze.

Dia accidentally bumped into a tree, shrugging and walking on more carefully.

Tykel walked the seashore, sighing to himself. He looked up at the star-dappled sky, wondering where she was...

Dianne sunk to the floor in the kitchen, burying her face in her hands, the tears finally finding their way out.

Zarr bit his lip, how could he act so stupid in front of her?

Kyssa sighed and sat on her bed, thinking. Why couldn't she just say things the way she meant? She bit her lip, realizing how useless it really was. He was a vampire...

Tykel sat on the shore. He sighed, feeling overwhelmed by nostalgia.

Dianne stood to her feet, her skirts swishing lightly around her legs. She left the house, knowing she'd be severely punished for doing so.

Zarr began to bang his head against the wall.

Kyssa raised an eyebrow as she heard a strange thudding sound. She tilted her head curiously and stood up to see where it was coming from.

Tykel shook his head and stood, leaving the shore. He began to travel through the forest, in search of something that would take his mind off of her.

Dianne gave a cry as a hunter's trap snapped shut on her ankle. It wasn't broken or anything, just bleeding badly.

Tykel looked up as he heard a cry. He raised an eyebrow and continued towards the sound, coming upon Dianne. He frowned slightly and approached her, prying open the trap.

Kyssa tilted her head and continued through the halls, coming upon Zarr. She blushed faintly and ducked back, her skirts swishing.

Dianne's eyes wided, "T-Ty?" Her voice was barely a whisper, her hand touched his face. "I-is it really you?"

Zarr saw her, "Kyssa! Wait!"

Kyssa froze, turning back slowly. "Er...y-yes?"

Tykel sighed with relief, his eyes shimmering in happiness. "Dia..." He hugged her tight.

Zarr's ears tipped with red, "Do you hate me?"

Dianne laughed with joy, "TY!!!" She kissed him, tears of joy slipping down her face.

Tykel flung his arms around her, ready to scream with joy.

Zarr's ears went redder, "Good...I'd certainly hope you didn't...or life for me would be more unbearable."

Dianne kissed his face over and over again, "If this is a dream, I'm never pinching myself!"

Kyssa looked up, surprised. "Why? Why do I make any difference?"

Tykel smiled at her, "Well, you certainly haven't lost any of your energy since we last met...how's Dia?"

Zarr shrugged, "I'm told that love is important. It seems to be."

Dianne laughed, "Too much like you!" She locked her lips to his.

Kyssa blushed darkly. "What does that have to do with me?" She said slowly. She now realized that what Dianne had said was probably true.

Tykel smiled slightly and held Dianne close.

Zarr smiled slightly, "You're a smart girl. You'll figure it out."

Dianne closed her eyes, her arms wrapping tighter, pulling him closer.

Tykel smiled.

Kyssa turned away and blushed darkly. She shook her head, muttering to herself and dashing back to her room.

Zarr sighed softly, "I certainly have a way of scaring off all the people I love and care about...speaking of which, I wonder if Dianne finally gathered up her courage to disobey me..."

Dianne pulled back for a moment, nuzzling his face.

Kyssa stopped slightly, looking back to Zarr momentarily. She shook off the feeling, closing the door of her room behind her. She laid back on her bed, trembling and overwhelmed.

Tykel smiled, kissing her lightly on the cheek. "I missed you so much...it's been 20 years..."

(My, my, my. :p I feel sorry for Zarr right about now.)

Zarr sighed, sinking to the ground.

Dianne smiled, "We're both still as old as ever." She kissed his neck.

Kyssa sighed, leaning against her pillow. She wondered what had just happened; in her mind it was a bit of a blur. She bit her lip and shook her head, slowly falling asleep.

Dianne smiled, kissing his neck again.

Kyssa suddenly jolted awake and left her room. She had a bad feeling that something was going to happen.

Tykel pulled away for a moment. "Do you know where Dia is?"

Dia walked on through the forest, hearing voices. She stepped into a clearing, spotting Tykel and Dianne. "PAPA!"

Kyssa silently walked past Zarr into another hallway. She didn't want to cause him more pain.

Zarr shivered for a moment, a strange gray coloring covered his body.

Dianne let go of Tykel with one arm, holding it open for Dia.

Dia smiled brightly and ran to her parents, hugging them both tightly.

Zarr took her hand gently, drawing her close. He gently kissed her, when he pulled back, "I love you Kyssa. I've been afraid to admit it, but there it is."

Kyssa blushed darkly, looking away for a moment. "I...I...don't know what to say..." She turned back to him, and kissed him softly again.

Zarr gently touched her cheek, tucking a lock of hair back from her face. He picked her up with ease as he stood, pulling back from the kiss for a moment, "I have something I want to show you."

Robert looked around, then shoved Daniel into the water. He then dashed off to find Chita.

Daniel sputtered as he came up, blinking.

Vara looked around, stalking her sister. She wouldn't let that idiot Robert, or even Daniel try to 'seduce' her little sister. She'd put a stop to the foolishness.

Chita glanced around, hearing voices. She tilted her head curiously as she saw Robert running towards her.

Vara aimed with her arrows, but her bow suddenly went flying out of her hands as Grace knocked it away. "Vara. Don't."

Vara sighed, "Mama!!! Why!? I could've shot him!!!"

Grace shook her head, "Don't. For all we know, Chita could be in love with one of them."

Robert skidded to a stop next to Chita, "Hi."

Daniel got out of the water, dripping wet. He sighed, heading off to go dry off somewhere.

"Mom. She can't possibly fall for Robert. He's an imbecile."

"I fell for an imbecile." Grace said with a laugh. "You know that."

"Yeah, but Robert is too...cold. If either of them, she would fall for Danny." Vara said defiantly.

"No dear, I fell for someone that no one thought I would." Grace said softly, trotting off elsewhere.

Daniel was heading in Chita and Robert's direction.

Chita twirled a lock of hair nervously on her finger. "Er...I'm fine..." She looked up and smiled as she noticed Daniel walking towards them.

Robert gave a soft sigh, "Well...that's good."

Daniel smiled at her, "Hey." He wrung out his clothes a little.

Grace smiled slightly as Vara left to go home.

Chita looked from one boy to the other, confused. She looked to Daniel. "'Er...what happened to your clothes?"

"Hmm? Oh, I fell in the water. No big." Daniel said with a small shrug, giving Robert a sharp look.

Robert looked skyward guiltily.

Grace watched her daughter for a moment, then started off.

Robert coughed nervously.

Grace sighed softly, remembering a time long ago.

Matt walked along the seashore, thinking about something.

Grace sat in the branches of a tree.
