Kanji is apart of the Japanese Language. =)
He already knows Kanji and probably the other Japanese Characters I forget the name of.

Kanji, hiragana, and katakana.
They're how the Japanese write. ^.^;; I thought everyone knew that...
BTW. Kanji is the main writing system {as far as I know}. Hiragana and katakana are simplified kanji. One is for foreign words...I forget which one. Collectively, hiragana and katakana are called "kana".

Mmkay...first step is to understand: Kanji is how the Japanese write.
Second step is to understand: "Ai" is the romanized spelling {henceforth referred to as "romaji"} of its kanji.
In other words...the Japanese write using their kanji and kana, and we write using the Roman alphabet.
So in other words, you could learn how to speak Japanese, but not know how to write it. I myself only know about 2 kana. >.>
There's a game that I found you can download for free by the name of Kana Attack. Look it up on download.com. It won't teach you kanji, but it does have a kana alphabet that's pretty good imo. The game's also fun too. And just a warning: they use the word "bastard" many times. XD
If you want to learn kanji, I have a link to a post that may help you.

Well, RumandMonkey.com has a Japanese name generator that will give your name in Kanji form if that is what you want. I'm not sure if it's all to accurate.
I can speak some Japanese actually I'm pretty fluent in it, but I cannot write Kanji form, etc. Wish I could take a class. I used to know a site, it taught me most of what I know of Japan sadly I lost it.. ><
EDIT: Here's the site, http://www.learn-japanese.info/indexw.html

Kanji is difficult. Kana is pretty easy though. Hiragana is really really important to learn. It helps with kanji pronunciation and it's also used with the kanji to make it mean something (食べる - たべる - taberu - to eat). Katakana is used for foriegn words (テレビ - terabi - TV).
Kanji is used for about everything. But you have to be careful with kanji. One kanji has different pronunciations, depending on how it is used (水 - mizu, kawa - water). You also have to know the stroke order for each kanji.
I hope this helps. ^^;
You can also go to japanese-online.com. They are very helpful when it comes to learning japanese and they have many people there who are willing to help. And they just got a new webmaster, to they will be getting a massive update.
