Japanese people don't like the movie because all the main characters weren't Japanese. 'A movie about Japanese played by Chinese written by whites.'(plus he's a man)
Then the movie was banned in China because of the wars against Jpn and Cna. Anyway, the movie had it's moments of nasty-ness, but still it's a good movie.

I liked it as well It had a good plot to it, very realistic of what would happen in Japan, to a little girl sold off. The thing I didn't really like was the ending :1 But oh well, other than that is was good.

Its good even tho I do prefer the book. I think that idea of the chinese actors sucked big time. I like Zhang Ziyi and love Michelle Yeoh, but please!!!! Did they think nobody would notice?? They don't look the same and I would definatly have prefered to see only japanese people in the movie, the way it should've been. I don't care about the nationality of the writers.

The people who played in it make no mind weather the story is good or not. The man who wrote the story was taken into the society if the Geisha so the things that happen are accurate with a fantasy twist. Regardless of who wrote it, the story is good. It's their problem if they want to ban a book or go to war over a story like that.

Nobody said they were declaring war. And well, they can ban anything they want, just like anywhere else.

You know what? After watching it, I wonder how many people still asks if geisha were whores.... why are they such idiots?? Why do they insist on calling them that????

I agree with you on that. And the book is MUCH better than the movie. Authur Golden did a wonderful job at capturing everything. But I do wish he did a little more research on the mizuage. That is a time where the geisha also gives presents and gifts to their 'family' in the okiya.

And of course it had it's moments of nasty-ness, their Geishas! They are in every man's fantasies! Of course someone like the Barron would to that to poor Chiyo-chan. And that's part of a Geisha's life to have to 'turn the collar'.

This movie may be played by alot of Chinese people and that personaly made me alil' mad but still, they did a wonderful job on it. But I don't really like how they edited the story like they did in the movie. 12t, since when did Nobu-san have two arms? 0.o... Second, they missed alot in the childhood area and 3rd, the dance thing was off....

Nobu-san.. lol

Well, I have to say it again: No movie based on a book is ever as good... But it can be good, and this was good.
