I've been having computer problems. And it all comes down to the fact that I'm just not all that smart when it comes to hardware and its durability, and that I basically have no storage in my room.
My USB port has come loose...again. This is the second time, and the first time we had to replace my entire motherboard because of the way my hardware is configured. {Not complaining, it got me a better sound card. But I would love to have my ATI graphics card back again.} I know how it happened this time, at least. It's all because I have a 4-port hub plugged into it {because I only have one USB port} and me, being dumb and ignorant, never unplugs that before I put my laptop up for the night..."up" being scrunched between my bulky printer and the edge of my desk. I do unplug my external hard drive, which is plugged into the hub...but that's because my computer won't cut on if anything's hooked up to it.
My room is so tiny, my furniture is so huge, and there's so much of my sister's stuff still left in here...I basically have nowhere to put any of my stuff. My room doesn't feel like "my" room, despite all the stuff I've put on the walls, all the stuff I have in here. Doesn't change the fact that I can't use it like I want to. I think the fact that I keep having to shove my computer onto my desk and the fact that the port keeps getting shoved this way or that because of that has made it wear out to the degree it has. {It still works, but only in the right position, and even then just barely.}
Add to that the fact that my computer's like, 5-6 years old. In tech years, that's borderline ancient. {Hell, our desktop's about that old, but we've had that longer.} It was bought used. I have so many freaking cords trailing off of it now that I'm surprised it doesn't get pulled off the bed from the weight of them. {See...my room's so tiny, my bed is my desk chair.} It won't run on battery. I just had a freaking emotional breakdown because of the entire situation.
I could use my sister's old computer, just pop my hard drive right into it. Problem is, I don't think that'll work, and I don't want to be without access to my laptop tonight. There's a second option of getting a cardbus USB adapter, but that won't work because my cardbus is on the opposite side of the computer from where everything I plug into it is and it'll be the same situation all over again.
I keep telling my dad it'd be cheaper if we just bought me a new computer - or at least one newer than my poor little baby here. Unfortunately, we don't have the money, there are other things I need before I need a computer, and my dad wants this to last me until I go to college. My dad keeps reiterating the cardbus deal, but I keep telling him I don't want to do that. In truth, it makes me hurt to see money thrown away like that...especially now. Things have never been terribly tight around here, but they have always been tight. I mean, yeah, sure. I can talk about the Beta Club convention trip and have no problem with dropping upwards of $200 on it. But I just...I guess it's because I'm tired of having to go through the headaches and frustration this is bringing, and I want a permanent fix...for something which the only real permanent fix is out of my reach.
*Sigh* If you've managed to make it to the end of this, I love you. I really do. I just needed to get this out of my head before I muck up the really good relationship I have with my dad.
