Carter looked at the paper, his hands trembling. His eye twitched as he checked in and walked into the office calmly. His sister had referred him to this doctor of all people.

"thank you Dr. Mathews, i hope this will be the last time i have to come here...." a young 17 year old girl said....

"well, Cassie, if anyone tries to put you down, just remember what i said before....god is the one who'll judge you, no one else has the right, other than yourself..." John said......

cassie shook john's hand and stepped out of the office.....john came out and said, "next....."

Carter stepped up. "I-I believe I'm next," he said softly as he looked at the doctor. He stuffed his the paper in his pocket.

"come on in, Carter is it?.." john said calmly and politely.....and he held open the door....

Carter nodded a bit unsuredly as he stepped in. "Thank you for seeing me," he said softly.

"it's not a problem...Jenna said that you might need a little help, and that's what i'm here for...." john said shuting the door quietly....

"Jen's wrong. I don't have a problem, at least I don't think I do," Carter said readjusting his hair a bit.

"we've all had problems....even if we don't realize we have them...and your sister seemed a bit concerned....." john said....reassuringly....

"I don't give a crap if Jenna was concerned," Carter muttered under his breath.

john sighed...and rubbed his temples..."alright, is there anything you want to talk about....anything you want to get off your chest.....everything here is confidential....not even my secretary knows who's done what that comes into my office...sound-proof room.....she only know's names and faces...."

"Not really," he said softly, "I never been to see a conselor before."

"alright.....why don't you tell me of your childhood.....start with your earliest memories...." john said......

"My family was...is full of psychological people. My parents wanted me and Jenna. I hate my parents," he said softly.

"alright.....now we're getting somewhere......so, what all has happened between you, your sister and your parents..." john said....

"My parents aren't exactly having the friendliest time with me but they sure are with Jenna at the time," Carter said softly as he sat down.

"alright, what's the contrast?...." john said...realizing what he was saying and what jenna said once before matching up.....

"You don't want to know," John whispered to him.

"actually yes i do....if you don't tell me anything....and there is something wrong......i might not be able to help........" john said....

"My sister signed me up for this. I didn't have a choice," Carter growled a bit.

"okay.....let's step off the sister subject....now tell me about yourself....likes.....dislikes......favorite movies, music.....you know....tell me about yourself...." john said.......

Carter looked at him, looking him over for a minute. "I-I have a book collection," he mumbled a bit.

"really, what type...." john asked....

"Almost all kinds," Carter whispered lightly.

"do you have any of the Nocturne series?......" john asked....

"I don't have any romances," Carter said shaking his head a bit.

"ah....do you have any anime?...." john asked.....

"Why are you asking me all these questions about the books at my house?" he asked softly.

"just getting to know you.....and since i'm asking you a lot of questions, are there any you want to ask me?..." john said....

Carter bit his lips and asked him softly, "What do you like?"

john nodded, "well, i like chinese food, i like japanese art....i like midday soap operas....anything else...."

"Not right now," he said shaking his head a bit.

"alright....now i have one last question...." john said...."when do you want to revisit my office...."

"Whenever's possible for you," Carter countered back.

"anytime is possible for me, i'm flexible...so that's why i asked..." john answered...

"I-I don't want to bother you," Carter mumbled.

"you aren't bothering me....i enjoy talking with people....that's why i came into this proffession, along with several other reasons...." john said trying to encourage carter to talk more...

"I-I'll write down what hours I work this week," Carter said softly as he pulled out a pen and scrap of paper, "Maybe we can work around them."

"that is a brilliant idea....." john said..."so where do you work...."

"I work at the small bookstore off of Main street," Carter murmured as he scribbled down the hours, "I did tell you I had a large amount of books."

"well, i guess i'll have to check this place out....see if you have any books i'm looking for...." john said with a smile....

Carter nodded and scooted the paper near John. "Sure we do," he said softly with a smile.

"well, i guess if you want to go now you can.....just let my secretary, jessica, out front know that your session is over and i'll let her know when to schedule you, she'll give you a call the day before to confirm your appointment..." john said standing up putting his hand out, "and it was a pleasure to meet with you today carter..."

Carter nodded and grabbed his hand standing up. "Nice meeting you too," he said softly before walking out and telling Jessica that his session was over.

jessica nodded and said, "so does Doc know when to schedule your next appointment...."

john stepped out and closed the door, since carter was the last person on his list for today...."yes jessica, i have his date picked out for his next appointment..."

Carter nodded a bit as he walked out of the office, waving a bit. He composed himself as he walked down the street after exiting the building,

john handed the papers to jessica with the dates to schedule carter for....."thanks again jessica..."
"hey not a problem johnny-boy....we grew up together...i owe you more than just being your secretary..." jessica said....
"no jessica...we're only friends....you are not the 'more than friends type' for me.....you're just a friend....." john said as he took the folders from today back from jessica and locked them in his brief case....

Carter ran his fingers through his hair as he stared at the sidewalk. He walked past the bookstore, looking inside somehow managing to make sure that everything was in it's place.

john went outside and got on the motorcycle out front of the office, put his helment on, revved it, and sped off to his appartment...

Carter soon arrived at his own apartment thirty minutes later.

john parked his bike infront of his downtown apartment and went inside...

Carter quietly walked into the building and waved slightly at Jessica before checking himself in.

john saw carter's number pop up on his screen and beeped to jessica through the intercom, "let him in.."
Jessica said, "alright doc....carter, you may go in now..."

Carter nodded before heading inside of the room. He pushed his hair back a bit as he sat down.

"hello carter, how are you doing today..." john asked....

"Good," Carter said softly as he sat down.

"that's good, now, anything new happen..." john asked...

"My parents came by the house the other day," Carter mumbled.

"and how were they acting....." john asked....quite a bit concerned....

"They told me I wasn't a good enough son this time," Carter said softly.

"did they try to make another comparison?..." john asked...truely concerned for this boy's state of mind....

"They didn't," Carter said shaking his head a bit.

"so then, they are politically incorrect in saying that 'you were a bad son', they have no comparison, and i highly doubt you are a bad son, in all honesty...i think you are a very kind, knowledgable young man....." john said, encouragingly...

"You don't know my parents though," Carter mumbled a bit.

"carter....one thing i should say, it doesn't matter what your parents think of you, it's how you think of you...you are a 22 year old man who can make his own right decisions, and no one should be able to tell you otherwise...." john said....

"After living with my parents, I've never really been able to think about myself in a way," he said softly.

"well, that's what i'm here for then right?..." john put a hand on carter's shoulder and smiled....

Carter looked up at John a bit.

"in all honesty, your parent's have their heads shoved so far up eachother's asses that they can't see how much of a wonderful young man you've turned out to be...." john said....

"I don't need a pep talk," Carter mumbled a bit as he looked at the ground.

"actually it's the truth....and i did know your parents.....as a little kid i used to live next door to your parents' house.....i know what you're going through....i've been there...my dad was a royal ass, and my mom got abused....physically, my dad emotionally abused me, he told me i was 'a worthless piece of trash...i'd never be a somebody...no one would ever like a piece of sh!t like me.....i was a fugly bast@rd that amounted to nothing.....' and that's just the nice things he said about me....he said i never made him proud... and i when i left for college, i never saw him again until my mom's funeral, he still didn't like me, but was impressed that i wasted so much of my life trying to better myself, and truth is, i succeeded in seeing him with a shocked face when he found out i was his mental psychiatrist......." john told his life's story and waited for carter's reaction....

Carter stood up a bit and looked at John. "You didn't have to tell me that," he whispered shaking his head as he put his hand on John's cheek, "I'll still be scared even if you do help me. There will be no reversing the damage already done by my parents."

john kinda froze at carter's touch...and just stared at him, he couldn't open his mouth to say anything....

"I-I'm sorry," Carter mumbled and removed his hand from John's cheek.

john shook himself out of the trance-like state he was in and said..."um....i-it's alright...it's just.....no one's done that to me....the last person that touched my face, well, he punched it....so...." john smiled openly and laughed slightly...

Carter nodded a bit before letting his arm hang a bit. He smiled a bit back at John.

"carter, would you want to go for a drink with me....." john asked...inconspicuous-not really-....good in theory, bad in application.....

"Where?" Carter asked softly, pushing his own hair.

"at Mason's...i've heard they have excellent pina coladas and wings.....kinda like hooters but without the chicks in skimpy clothing....." john laughed a bit...smiling....

"Okay," Carter mumbled a bit as he smiled a bit more, "I'll meet you there when you get done with things here."

"which is in about a half hour......unless i close up early...." john said

"Don't close up early alright? And I guess I'll leave then," Carter said softly before leaving the room and checking out with the receptionist.

after the door of his office closed, john slumped back on his sofa with a hand on his head "what am i doing....this is against my policy...no dating/trying to date clients......" he used the intercom to talk to jessica, "jess, do i have anyone else out there or scheduled to come in today...."

jessica sighed, "yeah, but she canceled saying that she had a funeral to go to and has scheduled it for next week...."
"alright, so, do you want to close up on time for me, and i'll pay you overtime..." john bribed.....

"alright...since you said it so nicely....and i have to get my files organized anyway....it's worse than my folders from back in highschool....." jess laughed...

Carter walked out of the building and ran his fingers through his hair. He bit his lip as he stumbled down the street to the bar.

john got his stuff gathered up and went the long way down the fire escape to his bike that he parked in the back this time, and sped off to his appartment to change into his other clothes....

Carter bit his lip quietly as he leaned against the side of the building, glancing around a bit.

Carter continued to bit his lip, slipping into the bar to have a look around.

john got to there and parked his bike in front of the bar...he stepped off and walked inside to look for carter...

Carter glanced at the door and walked up to John.

"We shall," Carter said nodding a bit.

the bartender showed up....she smiled at them and tried to flirt..."so boys....what'll you have..."

"alright.....i'll get them for ya sweet-thangs....." she said with a bit of a NY accent....

"So how is everything?" Carter asked looking at John.

Carter shrugged a bit.

the bartender came back and set their drinks infront of them...."oh and if ya need anything hun....just yell for Jules....short for Julia...." she winked at john......

john ignored the girl and just thanked her for the drink....and took a sip...

john took the last drink of his pina colada "that's an idea.....but i doubt anyone would want to date me....i haven't met a guy yet that would...." he sighed....

Carter nodded a bit and finished off his drink.

"that......is very true...." john said ordering another set of drinks....

Carter nodded, watching him.

john just smiled...."you know....back when we were kids.....i actually used to have the biggest crush on you....." he chuckled lightly.....

Carter blushed lightly as he looked at the table. "R-Really?"

"yeah.....and your sister always thought i was after her....phft....she was nusience...always in my hair, she was one of the girls to try to turn me straight and failed......" john said laughing...

"I never noticed. I must have been in deep," Carter said sipping at the drink when they arrived.

john nodded..."yeah, you were in a real slump......you were missing alot of school then too....."

"You would always bring me the work I would miss from my teachers some days," Carter said softly.

"that is correct......and we used to have a good few classes together......my hair was light brown before....." john said...

Carter nodded a bit and smiled a bit more than he had been.

"you know...i'm glad we got to re-know each other..." john said smiling.....

"I all but forgot about you," Carter said softly.

"really?..." john said, smiling even broader...

Carter nodded a bit. "My sister wouldn't shut up, so I never had a chance to forget," he said shrugging a bit.

"eh....yes.......her" john sighed...."a pain in my @ss if there ever was one.....i swear she stalked me even though i just lived next door..." he laughed....

"I'm sorry I keep bringing her up," Carter said softly.

"it's alright.....no harm no foul....." john said patting carter gently on the shoulder....

john just continued to smile....."earlier....when i said about the whole dating thing......i mean........you wouldn't want to....you know....go out with me?..."

"Only if you want to. I-It doesn't matter to me," he said softly.

"well i'd want to if you do...." john said

Carter bit his lip a little before nodding slowly. "I-I can take a chance," he said softly.

"then i'll take that chance too..." john smile and toasted him by raising his glass....

Carter nodded and raised his glass a bit.

john felt really happy and it felt like butterflies were flying through his insides....

Carter shifted in his seat a bit as he red tinted his face a bit as uncertainty settled in his stomach.

"um....do you just want to get out of here?..." john asked.....

Carter nodded, standing up a bit.

john got up, feeling completely sober.....he never could get drunk........

Carter stumbled to him, smiling a bit.

"can't hold a lot of your liquor huh?.." john laughed a little....offering him an arm to lean on...

Carter shook his head a bit as he took John's arm.

"hey carter......have you ever been on a motorcycle?.." john asked smiling slightly...

"I haven't," Carter mumbled a bit.

"would you like a ride?" john asked as the went through the door...

Carter nodded and followed him out.

john took him to his bike, and handed him the helmet...."you're gonna need this....." he said smiling back at carter...

"Alright," Carter said taking the helmet. He put it on his head the best he could and looked at John.

"well climb on, and hang on tight..." john said getting on the bike...

Carter nodded, getting on behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist tightly.

"hang on..." john said then reved the bike and they sped down the street.....

Carter gripped onto John's shirt.

john drove them downtown to his appartment...then turned off the bike..."so, how did you like your first motorcycle ride carter?..."

"I-It was different," Carter said softly.

"would you like to come inside..." john asked and motioned toward his appartment building....

Carter nodded and got off the bike. He took the helmet off of his head.

john lead carter up to the door and inside to an elevator and pressed the numer 5, the 5th floor was entirely his......."i'm really glad that you were able to go out with me..." john said when the elevator door reopened.....

"I'm glad to," Carter said softly.

"so do you want to watch a movie or somthing....sorry just a little new to the entire....you know....dating thing..." john said a bit nervously....after he opened his door and let carter into his appartment....

"It's okay. I'm a bit new too," Carter said softly as he looked up at John. He smiled a bit before looking around the apartment.

john could only smile...."so um.....if you want to look around i can make up some regular food, not bar food, to eat if you want..." he offered..

"If it's not too much trouble for you," Carter said softly, looking back at John. He put a hand in one of his pockets, fiddling around with a piece of string.

john smiled, "no problem at all, do you like chinese noodles?..."

Carter nodded a bit as he went back to looking around.

john got out some noodles and started up the stove and put oil in a skillet.....

Carter took his hand outs of his pocket after a while.

john stirred the noodles...

Carter found the kitchen and asked softly, "What can I do to help?"

"um in the fridge there's some soda and other drinks if you want any....i'll just have a coke...." john said getting out two plates and putting the noodles evenly on each....

Carter nodded and got a couple of cokes out of the fridge.

john put the plates on the cafe table and got out the forks and chopsticks....."i know some people have troulbe using chopsticks, so i got out forks too..."

Carter nodded and set the drinks down on the cafe table also.

"well, i guess we can eat..." john said pulling out the chair for carter....

"Thank you," Carter said softly, taking the seat.

john moved around and got in his own seat.....and picked up his chopsticks...

Carter picked up the chopsticks and tried to eat with them.

john reached across the table and placed them in his hands the right way....."just like this..."

"Thank you," Carter said softly as he looked up at John.

"not a problem....." john said smiling....

Carter nodded and tried to use the chopsticks again.

john smiled..."you can use the fork if you want...." he suggested...

"Alright," Carter said softly, putting down the chopsticks and picked up the fork.

john continued eating....then took a drink of coke.....

Carter ate a little more and took a sip of his own soda.

"so what do you think....don't hold back any critism..." john said...

"It was good," Carter said nodding a bit.

Carter finished up a couple minutes later and nodded a bit.

"i'll put the plates in the washer and i'll get the cans later.....so then what do you want to do?..." john asked as he grabbed the plates...

"well.....um........how about a movie?.....i've got a lot of dvds on the other side of that wall........" john said...

"Do you mind if I look at them?" Carter asked softly.

"be my guest.....you can choose one to watch, or if you want some your welcome to them..." john said...

"It wouldn't be right to take any movies from you, but I'll look," Carter said nodding a bit as he went to look at the movies.

"i can get more.....plus there's doubles and triples of movies in there...." john said moving to carter's side by the dvds....

"But they're yours," Carter said softly, looking up at him.

"and what am i going to do with so many movies?....." john said

"I don't know," Carter said shrugging a bit.

john, behind carter, leaned his chin on his shoulder..."i tell you i don't mind.....look! i have at least two of everything here......and i've watched most of them already.........i won't care if you take some....."

"Maybe later okay?" Carter asked softly, looking at John, "Which ones would you recommand tonight?"

"hmm.....practical magic is good.....but so is the covenant......" john said.....

"alright...." john smiled and got it..."follow me and we can start watching......" he said moving to the other side that opened into a room with a super wide screen tv........a couch, a table with a couple chairs and a bar.......

Carter looked around the room quietly before looking at John. "Nice place you have," he said softly.

"that's what i get for helping 'celebraties'....." he said rolling his eyes..."and they pay me to keep everything they go through a secret......" he sighed...

Carter nodded a bit and walked up to him. He gently kissed the ohter's cheek and blushed a bit.

john blushed a little but returned it and smiled nervously.....then he put in the movie and it started playing...he sat on the couch with carter right beside him....

Carter blinked and flushed as he looked at John's arm.

john leaned over and whispered..."have you seen this movie before?..." he didn't want to be louder than the movie.....

"the part coming up here soon....it has excellent effects...." john said, slowly leaning closer toward carter after everyother person spoke in the movie.....

Carter felt the heat rise in his cheeks as he looked between John and the movie.
