Our Seven Lovely and Deadly Sins

Pride (or hubris or "vanity" or ) is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor." In Jacob Bidermann's medieval (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval)miracle play (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_play), Cenodoxus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cenodoxus), pride is the deadliest of all the sins and leads directly to the damnation of the titulary famed Parisian doctor. In Dante's Divine Comedy, the penitents were forced to walk with stone slabs bearing down on their backs in order to induce feelings of humility.

Greed (or avarice, covetousness) is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the church) is applied to the acquisition of wealth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth) in particular. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that greed was "a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things." In Dante's Purgatory, the penitents were bound and laid face down on the ground for having concentrated too much on earthly thoughts. "Avarice" is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of greedy behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betrayal), or treason (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treason), especially for personal gain, for example through bribery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bribery) . Scavenging (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scavenge) and hoarding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoard)theft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theft) and robbery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbery), especially by means of violence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence), trickery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trickery), or manipulation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manipulation) of authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authority) are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include simony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simony), where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church.


Gluttony derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over-consumption) of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy.

Like greed, envy may be characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however, for two main reasons. First, greed is largely associated with material goods, whereas envy may apply more generally. Second, those who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it. Dante defined this as "love of one's own good perverted to a desire to deprive other men of theirs." In Dante's Purgatory, the punishment for the envious is to have their eyes sewn shut with wire because they have gained sinful pleasure from seeing others brought low. Aquinas described envy as "sorrow for another's good".


More than other sins, the definition of sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion among the seven deadly sins. In fact it was first called the sin of sadness or despair. It had been in the early years of Christianity characterized by what modern writers would now describe as melancholy: apathy, depression, and joylessness — the last being viewed as being a refusal to enjoy the goodness of God and the world God created. Originally, its place was fulfilled by two other aspects, acedia and sadness. The former described a spiritual apathy that affected the faithful by discouraging them from their religious work. Sadness (tristitia in Latin) described a feeling of dissatisfaction or discontent, which caused unhappiness with one's current situation. When Thomas Aquinas selected acedia for his list, he described it as an "uneasiness of the mind", being a progenitor for lesser sins such as restlessness and instability. Dante refined this definition further, describing sloth as being the "failure to love God with all one's heart, all one's mind and all one's soul." He also described it as the middle sin, and as such was the only sin characterised by an absence or insufficiency of love. In his "Purgatorio", the slothful penitents were made to run continuously at top speed.
The modern view of the vice, as highlighted by its contrary virtue of zeal or diligence, is that it represents the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. For example, a student who does not work beyond what is required (and thus fails to achieve his or her full potential) could be labeled slothful.
Current interpretations are therefore much less stringent and comprehensive than they were in medieval times, and portray sloth as being more simply a sin of laziness or indifference, of an unwillingness to act, an unwillingness to care (rather than a failure to love God and his works). For this reason sloth is now often seen as being considerably less serious than the other sins, more a sin of omission than of commission.

Wrath (or anger or "Rage") may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. These feelings can manifest as vehement denial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial) of the truth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truth), both to others and in the form of self-denial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-denial), impatience (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impatience) with the procedure of law, and the desire to seek revenge outside of the workings of the justice system (such as engaging in vigilantism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigilante)) and generally wishing to do evil or harm to others. The transgressions borne of vengeance are among the most serious, including murder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder), assault (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault), and in extreme cases, genocide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide). Wrath is the only sin not necessarily associated with selfishness or self-interest (although one can of course be wrathful for selfish reasons, such as jealousy, closely related to the sin of envy). Dante described vengeance as "love of justice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice) perverted to revenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenge)spite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spite)". In its original form, the sin of wrath also encompassed anger pointed internally rather than externally. Thus suicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide) was deemed as the ultimate, albeit tragic, expression of wrath directed inwardly, a final rejection of God's gifts.

Lust (or lechery) is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual) nature. Giving in to lusts can lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but not limited to) sexual addiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_addiction), fornication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fornication), adultery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adultery), bestiality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bestiality), rape (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape), perversion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perversion), and incest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incest). Dante's criterion was "excessive love of others," which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. In "Purgatorio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purgatorio)", the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings.

About Our Lovely Characters

Greed (avarita)
"The desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual.."

Greed gets quite peeved if you refer to her as a little kid, but certainly goes out of her way to act like one. She's the demonic equivalent of a spoiled daddy's girl (well, more demonic anyway), and has no shame in acting every bit the part. She loves to go shopping, and to a greater extent, plotting bank heists and get-rich-quick schemes (typically including Seth in the plot without his knowledge). She may not be much of a physical threat by herself, but she stands a tremendous danger to anyone's financial well-being.
She travels around with a small flock of nipping purses, which have been known to bite a few ankles in aid of their master while she's running from the authorities (escaping whilst in high heels is no easy task). The purse around her neck opens only when she wishes to put valuables in it. Seth has never seen her take anything back out.

The excessive belief in one's own abilities, interfering with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise.

The darkest of the Sin girls. She enjoys methodically and systematically picking people apart from the foundation of their very being, and destroying them facet by facet, all while indulging in her own glory. She has a series of mirrors hooked up to her gown, which fan out like a peaco.cks tail when she needs an emergency reminder of how gorgeous she really is. The rest of the Sins aren't terribly fond of her, but she could care less, as she knows they're all jealous trollops anyway. She's determined to be the Sin that corrupts Seth to his end, and as such, adopts a fake personality around him to gain his trust and stroke his ego.. oh so tenderly. Ooh la la..

Color: Violet.
Symbol: The horse.
Punishment in Hell: Broken on the wheel.
Opposing virtue: Humility.
Demon: Lucifer.



Gluttony (Gula)

"The inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires."

Sweet as sugar and twice as addicted to it, Gluttony, for all her politeness and good nature, is well on her way to eating Seth our of house and home. Out of all the Sins, she's probably the kindest, the least probable to kill Seth deliberately, so to speak, and enjoys taking care of others. Her appetite gets the better of her when she least suspects it, manifesting in a huge set of jaws on her apron thatr devour everything remotely edible in sight. And I do mean remotely. Seth had a house cat once.

Likes: cooking, cleaning, eating
Dislikes: dirty dishes
Color: Orange.
Symbol: The pig.
Punishment in Hell: Force-fed rats, toads and snakes.
Opposing virtue: Faith and temperance.
Demon: Beelzebub.

Sloth (Accidia)
The avoidance of physical or spiritual work.


Not much can be said about Sloth. Namely because she never does very much. When she DOES move, more often than not it's to find a better place to sprawl out. Seth wakes up to find her in his bed more than once, much to the shock of his roommate, as one might imagine. Though she's not ill-tempered, her general indifference can make her seem rather cold, although she's believed to have a rather soft heart behind the silent exterior. Gluttony is nice to her, and as such she often follows her around. Albeit very slowly.
Did I mention Sloth weighs about 4,000 pounds? In other words, you have to be more than just determined to try and move her. You have to be insane.

Dislikes: going outside, cars
Color: Gray.
Symbol: The goat.
Punishment in Hell: Thrown into snake pits.
Virtue: Zeal, diligence.
Demon: Belphegor.



Envy (Invidia)

"The desire for others traits, status, abilities or situation."


Envy is a tad on the spooky side. She generally keeps to herself, but emerges every now and then to peer at people from afar, or on rare occasions, slither over their shoulder and comment on what they're doing. Typically this activity is followed by her griping as to how much she wishes she could do what you're doing as well as you do it, even if it's something as simple as eating a bologna sandwich. Needless to say, she's got a bit of a self-esteem problem. She also keeps a pet python, Leviathan, which Seth isn't too fond of, and vice versa..

Likes: writing depressing poetry, spying on people
Dislikes: herself
Color: Green. (Duh.)
Symbols: the dog or the serpent
Punishment in Hell: Submerged in freezing waters.
Opposing virtue: Love.

-Lust-
"The inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body."


Lust is a perplexing vixen. No one is ever entirely sure of her motives. Then again, no one is sure SHE'S aware of her own motives. She's a dreamy sort, often walking throughout Seth's apartment completely nude, even when he has company over. (As you might imagine, this made the visit of his mother an interesting event.) Though she looks innocent, her piercing eyes belie her harmless exterior..

Likes: soft sheets, satin sheets, silk sheets, etc.
Dislikes: boring people, cigarettes
Color: Blue.
Symbol: The cow.
Punishment in Hell: Smothered in fire and brimstone. (Depending on where you do your research.. heh.)
Virtue: Chastity.
Demon: Asmodai.

Wrath


Wrath is the largest of the Sins, at a staggering 6'5", and by far the most vocal. She has absolutely no qualms about speaking her mind when the time calls for it, and even more so when the time doesn't. She drinks hard, plays hard, and hits really really REALLY hard (as Seth will come to find out on multiple occasions). She is the most likely Sin to destroy Seth and Jacob's apartment without trying, if she doesn't destroy one of them first.

Plot
Seth is your average teen with a job but low grades, he unlike others though has always been living in sin. His mother left him when he was a mere kid, while his father guided him through the wrong path. One dark night a storm had appeared from out of no where, lightning and thunder roared through the skies. A blast was heard from upstairs and loud noises ran through the house. Seth never bother to look, and next morning he had found seven girls laying around his room. This had freaked him out, a lot, eventually he learned their names and who they really were....his seven sins and until he didn't change his attitude the life of this girls would be condemned. It is said that all of the girls were angels sent to earth to change his life and show him how he acted through his own eyes to change his ways.

Other: Sybaris was named after the greatest city of luxury. She always has a mirror in her pocket or purse and loves all of the most luxurious things. How can you not love her?
Small Bio: Sybaris was a bit of a nerd during her youth. The kids picked on her and hurt her. Everything they said about her, she believed. One day she was found hanging from a rope in her room with her wrists slit and a note written in her blood saying, "I AM BEAUTIFUL." A broken and bloodied mirror lay at her feet. Morning came, the sun shine as bright as a fresh light bulb and the roads of the cities began to be filled with cars and buses. Gluttony was up by that time, making up some yummy breakfast for Seth and all of the other girls. A smile had overpower her face as she stirred a bowl with mix pancakes. She hummed to herself and danced around the clean kitchen.

Sybaris lay asleep in the bed that she stole from Seth. She was way too beautiful and delicate to be sleeping on the floor or on a couch. The suns rays shone through the window but that didn't wake her because she wore a sleeping mask over her eyes that said, "Beauty Sleep," on it. She slept naked becaus she felt that pajamas were too ugly to be covering her beauty.

The smell of bacon and eggs roamed the whole house, Gluttony sigh as she watched a red bird on their front porch with intense eyes. The smell had woken Greed up, she had been sleeping on a mountain of bags filled with valuable tools. Her violet eyes fluttered open, strands of pitch black hair were scattered before her delicate face. "Mm....Glu has made breakfast...." Greed licked her upper lip as she stretch with a yawn and went to change into her casual attire.

Envy woke up to the smell of the bacon and thought, I wish I could make food that smells that good and impress everyone like gluttony does.

Wrath woke up to the sweet smell of food. That smells nice she thought getting up but tripping over Sloth. "Sloth!!" she screetched.
Sloth turned over.

Envy had woken up but had not yet gotten up. Envy giggled at seeing Wrath trip over Sloth.

"Would you cretins keep quiet? Mother Nature is trying to make perfect beauty!" Pride roared from Seth's room. "I hope that's turkey bacon and tofu eggs your making Glu, because I will not eat anything less than perfection!" She called out and settled back to sleep.

Wrath coughed 'Mother Nature my ass'. Sloth giggled form the floor.

Seth rubbed his eye's and thought. "Do they ever shut up.' He thought as he started down the stairs going over sloth and down to the kitchen.

"Someone knows how to watch where they step" muttered Sloth. "Excuse me!! You shouldn't be on the damn floor!!" Wrath yelled. "Eh" Sloth replied.

Set rolled his eye's as they continued to yell and argue. " Mitsuki, up at the crack of dawn as allways arent you." Seth said as he went to the fridge and got a small drink then sat down.

Lust was in her usual bored state of mind,also in one of those moods where she just didnt care

Gluttony blinked when she saw Seth, blushing as she did she greeted him good morning. "Sleep well Seth?" she asked the boy with a sweet smile and served him his breakfast. Gluttony had everyone's plate already on the table, including Pride's turkey bacon and tofu eggs. She stood there with a somewhat shy look and kept smiling. Greed had woken up with great effort and dressed in her usual attire. "Morning guys..." Greed greeted everyone as she walked out of her own room and walked past Sloth, avoiding to step on her. "...Sloth....." Greed shook her head as she walked into the kitchen and took her own plate. "....Hm.." Greed hum as she sat on the living room, turning on the TV and began to watch some cartoons. She took out a notebook and began to check which bank she could plan a scheme on.

Wrath walked into the kitchen grabing a plate.She took a whiff and sighed, "Smells nice" she said to Gluttony. She walked into the room with Greed. She started watching cartoons too. Sloth got up for once(Gasp) and grabbed her plate, laying on the couch she started watching the tv.

Seth nodded to Gluttony and said. "I'm ok dident sleep to well that with all the racket and such." Seth said as he heard the cartoons come on and thought. 'I just need to eat and go to work at least they stay at the house..... most of the time."

"So Greed, doing something with a bank? Need help? I wanna help?" Wrath said bouncing up and down. Sloth looked at Wrath then the screen of the Tv.

Seth turned back and said. "Do you think you two could at least try to keep it down this morining." Seth said as he had just finished his food and got up to wash it.

[TehEmoKitteh!!]

"Nope" Wrath replied with a grin. Sloth finished the food an set the plate on the mini table not wanting to get up.

Greed rosed to stare at wrath, a sly smile crossing her face, "Sure why not! I'm thinking of going to this near bank around here...." she began to explain to Wrath, while eating at the same time. She had her bags ready up in "her" room. A apologetic expression overtook her face and she apologized for all the racket that happened last night, even though it wasn't her fault at all. "Uhm...S-Seth?" she began to fiddle with her thumbs, a sign she had done something wrong. "...W-We ran out of food...." she confessed, yet hiding something from him.

Pride sauntered down the steps and into the kitchen wearing absolutely nothing at all. "Oh, hello there beautiful." She said as she spotted herself in the mirror hanging on the wall. She fluffed up her rather large red hair and strode to give Seth a hug. "Good morning, Seth! Aren't I looking absolutely gorgeous?"

Seth looked at Greed and said. "Why what happened I just bought food yesterday." But before he could get any futher he was hugged by a naked Pride which used to bother him but not anymore so he humored her and said. Well good morning to you to gorgeous.' Seth said as he put on his best just let me go without killing me smile.

"Well, somebody....ate all of your food...." Greed smiled wickedly at Gluttony who was blushing very badly, "It was an accident though!" Gluttony tried to explain as she had an urge to gobble down all of Seth's food. Greed chuckled as she stood to go out and start her mischief. "For god's sake....put on some clothes Pride...no one wants to see you're naked ass.." Greed scowled.

Seth raised a eye brow at Greed and said. "And what are you not telling me???" He asked as he looked at Gluttony and said. 'It's ok I've come to expect that you have theses urges around this time of the month."

Envy walked down late and ate her food quickly before it got stolen by one of the other girls, saying hi to seth once she entered the kitchen.

"You're just completely jealous because I'm so much more prettier than you and Seth loves me more." Pride stuck her tongue out and squeezed Seth harder and planted a loud kiss on his lips. Letting him go she took a seat on the table and ate her healthy food.

Greed gave Seth a mischievous smile, "I'm going to be out for long with Wrath...." she informed Seth and then snorted at Pride "Right, it seems to me you got a pretty big pimple somewhere on your back and I think it's time you'd shaved unless you want to scare the poor Seth away...." she smirked, her eyes glittered as she dragged Wrath along with her out of the house and to town. Poor Seth, Wrath with greed was a very bad combination to go out. Chaos was sure to come. Gluttony blinked, "..." living with all of Seth's sins was quite a drag but she didn't mind it. "O-Ok...I'm still sorry though..." seeing Envy walk into the kitchen she paused and greeted her "Morning Envy!" she smiled big and waved at her.

After all was said and done all Seth could do was grab his things and go to work wondering what they had in mind for the day.

Envy smiled at Gluttony, "Good morning!" She said, "The food was delicious as usual."
She kissed Seth on the cheek before he left for work, blushing and hiding away after she did.

Gluttony smiled big, accepting Envy's compliment and went to do the dishes.

Envy went to help Gluttony with the dishes.

Wrath just followed Greed.

Sloth was still watching her cartoons not bothering to get up and scowled Pride about being naked.

Pride strode to the sink and tossed her plate in it, "Be a doll and clear this up, Glu." Without waiting for an answer to walked back to Seth's room, but stopped one more at the mirror in the hall and stared at herself for a good ten minutes. "You're so beautiful!" She squealed to herself and headed upstairs to wear her black with brown fur-trim jacket and purple ruffled skirt.

"Yes miss..." Gluttony replied to Pride as she left the kitchen, a light sight escaped her lips and did the dishes with Envy. Her eyes narrowed as she felt the urge to gobble something down, her stomach rumbled and turning to Envy, she began to drool. Poor Glu, not only was she able to eat food but anything and at this time it was a great time to eat a human. The one thing about her urges is that once she wants to eat her common sense disappear an the only thing she wants is to eat. Everyone knew how Glu was.

Meanwhile, Greed dragged Wrath along with her to one of the most popular banks and entering the bank she began to instruct Wrath what to do so they could be successful. "All you have to do is a huge and wonderful scene, do anything you desire....so you can distract everyone and I can do my part....I know you're good with that." she winked at Wrath and left her in the middle of a crowd, Greed stood close to where the hallway to the vault was and waited for Wrath to do her part. This was going to be fun.

Envy backed away from Gluttony looking for some kind of food she could give her to avoid getting eaten. She found a loaf of bread and tossed it at Gluttony, knowing it wasn't going to be quite enough but hoping it was enough to hold her till she could find something more filling that wasn't her.

A tall man bumped into Wrath and said "Hey shorty watch we're you stand." Wrath looked at the ground with anger and she then proceeded to lift her head up and tackle him saying "you little *! You son of a F*ing ***! I'm going to tear off your * and shove them right up your ****! And then *****on your ****with***in the **and***** your ***so then you'll have to * sideways...*!" A big crowd had gathered near the shrimpy girl and giant man.

Sloth looked at Glu. "Why do you do what Pride says too?"

Envy looked at Sloth. "I think she just wants to be helpful." She said

Greed smirked, it was a great distractions with that done she went into the vault and did her part. Little bags followed behind her and as she began to place money in them she hadn't noticed the officer behind her. "What the! Little lady you are in big trouble!" Greed yelp and taking whatever she could she watched as her bags began to slow the officer down and ran out of the vault. "Wrath! Let's get out!" she laughed as she ran out of the bank and waited for her friend with her bags bouncing behind.

"Uhm....I guess because I don't want to cause Seth problem?" she suggested shrugging and smiling at her.

Envy smiled, "We apparently have to go shopping pretty soon it looks like." She said.

Wrath jsut smirked and followed.

Sloth just gave Glu a look.
