Haaaaaaaaaai :D

Well.. I've noticed a few things in all my many years of watching American movies/series/reallife series ed.
And I asked myself.. is it really like that in America...?
so this are a few things I noticed;

People wear shoes in their house..
They all have curtains, but never close them..
It looks like people never lock their door..
Wal-mart, sells everything.. and everybody goes to wal-mart..
Everyone has big houses, and they're made of wood..?

Adnd umm.., there were a few more things I've noticed but I forgot them.. (a) I'll post these later.. if I remember them:p

LazyAnimeWatcher

I thought about it too!
In the movies and such american looks quiet awsome.. but is it really like that in real life XD?
Aw and always there are like alot of good looking ppl every where -__-' is that really true? or are they hiding all the ugloes?

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 01:06 PM
Haha:D Did you also notice that it looks like all those teengirls, all are super skinny, except for a few..

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-03-2009, 01:09 PM
Excapt the fat once which are hated by all the school.. or the society..
Its like, or super hot or super ugly, no average XD

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 01:11 PM
Yes indeed! Haha :D When I see them I really feel like: ;__;

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-03-2009, 01:25 PM
lol.. Actualy.. US is one of the country with the higher %'s of fat ppl in the world if not the highest.. so.. XD!
No1 should feel bad..

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 01:32 PM
Haha, they say that in my country there also are a lot of overweight people, but I never see them.. and if I see people who are overweight, it only are chubby people.. okay, sometimes I see extremely overweight people, but still, the most people I see around here, are quite normal weight people..

By the way.., I wonder what people mean by fat, because.. I was watching tv yesterday and there was this plastic surgeon and he said to a super skinny girl, you're too fat, you should loose more weight.. So my mother and I looked at each other like "Wtf?"

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-03-2009, 01:35 PM
I will tell u what.. there are really good looking girls but becose they belly is abit out like not fat just.. what every one has so its like "aw no Im fat!" And it pisses me off when girls do that -__-.

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 01:46 PM
I think it's quite sad to see all those young girls having a bad self-esteem because of all those photo-shopped, plastic surgeon, models.. The world is getting quite fake.. The media really is like: You're thin -> You're beautiful
You're normal -> you're fat, and ugly, and no one will ever like you...
But, you know.. I think thin girl look very unhealthy and don't look interesting.. also, I'm not a lesbian or something, but I just really think they're unattractive, and I think most guys think the same..

XxXChiiXxX
08-03-2009, 01:49 PM
Hey, I agree, and the surgeons just say that because the more surgery they talk you into the more money goes into their wallet, they couldnt care less how you feel because money is all they really care about when your in their office and such. Yea the media makes everyone believe you have to be perfect or your nothing.

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-03-2009, 02:27 PM
yea I think its one of the reasons, the greed for money..
Than the girls going in the anoraxy direction..

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 02:42 PM
It's quite funny if you think about how it was to be chubby many years ago, if you were chubby, you was a healthy good looking woman, and you were claimed to be fertile. The skinny people were seen as the poor un-fertile people. And not many years ago, curves were also seen as "healthy and beautiful", if you look at Marilyn Monroe, she wasn't anorexic or what ever, and everybody said she was gorgeous.. I think that over a couple of years everything is going to change again, and people will like something else..Fashion and ideals change all the time..

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-03-2009, 02:44 PM
yea, at a time fat women counted as the best there is..
I think it was the middle age or something.. not sure >_>

I'd just like to say America isn't really a great place. All house aren't as great an amazing as they seem in movies. Yes life is really that dramatic here. Eesh, I don't like America honestly. It used to be fine until I grew up. Things are horrible here. Especially our economy. It's almost my birthday and we can't afford anything because of it. ;_;

This is why I wanna go to South Korea or Japan! >w<

But I guess, sometimes people who move over to America like it here.. I don't know why. It's odd in my opinion.

Yes, *Arm pump*Peoples who agree with me, I'm all super happy now.It seems like any time I bring up anexoia people are all like 'shut the hell up, no one would do that.' my friend, who knows I like them isn't super skinny either, infact, shes nicely built. I just feel bad because her stupid as hell boyfriend didn't know what he had until he had dumped her.

I guess I can agree with xxShyGrlxx, When I become old enough to get away from this place, I will. And about the anorexia thing, Lotsa girls are like that in America because of of tabloids and propaganda, as well as celeberties. They make it seem 'cool' to not eat and do drugs and the like. I know a lot about this because well, some of my friends are anorexic and I used to be a tad bit bulimic, on top of other things, I'm healthy now though. But the stars, they make it seem like you have to be skinny, and a bleached blond (or dye your hair a lot) to get your way...

Agreed, whole-heartedly. As soon as I'm out of college and have enough pocket money I'm fleeing to Japan.

I can~! <3
Lmao.

To question 1:
Yes; we sometimes wear our shoes in our house. I don't usually 'cause I don't like to.. but we do. ;D

To question 2:
We have lootts of curtains in my house. My mom and dad don't close them but I want them to 'cause sometimes I feel like someones looking inside our house. ><;

To question 3:
We lock our doors. O.O

To question 4:
Lmao. I think Wal-Mart sells just about everything. We go to a bunch of places, but I don't think we go to Wal-Mart for everything.

To question 5:
SOME people have big houses.. some don't. Some live in brick houses. xD

There you go. (:

Hmm where I live, it's polite if you take your shoes of, when you're entering someone's house. we also don't wear shoes inside, 'cause it isn't "clean". :p

And here we close our curtains at night, so you're able to sleep in the dark, and further I don't really know why we close them, but everyone does xD

In the movies you always see people, easily walk into someone's home:| oddddddd

We have something what looks a bit like the whole wal-mart idea, but it's only in the big capitals, Amsterdam-the Hague-Utrecht.. I don't really live near them :p and err, it doesn't include a supermarket..

Here, every house is made of bricks..

[Kiki-Chan]
08-03-2009, 10:17 PM
Lol. Yeah. It is polite to take your shoes off in your house if they aren't clean. It's not like we walk around all day with them on. Usually when I get home from going somewhere, I go straight to my room then take my shoes off. ^^; I guess it's some-what similiar?

We close all our curtains at night. xD So that's definitely the same. We open them during the day to let light inside. :3

Lol. I guess 'cause it's like that in movies. (: My mom and dad ALWAYS lock the doors for safety reasons. Heck, everyone I know do that. xD

Theres many places you can get food and supplies at around here. Wal-Mart provides some of that stuff, but it's not just like we only have Wal-Mart.. we have other places.

Lol really? Over here your house is practically made out of everything. ;-; Well maybe.
I live in Missouri.

Oh quick question! What do American people use to measure temperature? Celsius or what..? :] 'cause sometimes I see things like 76 degrees, so I'm like.. 76 degrees celsius..? Ehh hot:O

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 10:58 PM
Hmm in the movies they also keep the curtains open:O Hahaha
I know there are more shops ^^

I think the villages and the neighbourhoods in the Netherlands and America are really different.. here a modern standard neighbourhood is like this:

Mrawr
08-03-2009, 11:09 PM
Ahh! We always use celsius in the Netherlands..:p it's all so onnoying haha:D you guys also use inches, feet, yard.. and here we use centimeters, kilometers etc. :p and kilos and gram.. I always have to use my cellphone to look how much it is :P It's a 'standard' modern neighbourhood, most people live in there. All the houses are attached to each other in those areas
We also have houses like;

Wow. ^^ Those are some nice houses. Lol.
If you want to know what American houses look like, just Google it. ^w^ I'm sure you know though.

How much is the average house where you live?

But not everyone own's a house over here in America. Some of our families live in Trailors.

Also we do were shoes inside sometimes but we go barefoot a lot too.

Wal-Mart doesn't sell everything.

Some of us just don't read the tabloids and things like that.

It' depends on where you live, state wise that is. I live on the upper East coast of the U.S. Taxes here are pretty high, New York is worse though, and California too.

That looks like an average neighborhood in the city, but without all the cars.

To throw in my own two cents about the first questions-

My family never wears our outside shoes in the house unless we're about to go somewhere and are waiting. Sometimes we wear slippers, but never shoes. I've seen some of my friends wear their shoes in their house though, but I always take my shoes off at the door.

My dad's house doesn't have curtains. My mom's does, though, but they're almost always closed.

Wal-mart does not sell everything [just new stuff but never good classics] and most people go there because its cheap. My family doesn't go to Wal-mart at all.

Not everyone has a big house or even lives in a house and most of them are made of brick or concrete.

I actually like america, I guess it just depends on where you in it you live. To all they say they hate living in america, I like to say at least you aren't living in some third world country or a country where you have no control.

I agree. I really like America. I know America has its faults, but I think a lot of people in my generation take America for granted and believe too much of what the media says. Most of the exchange students that came through my high school really loved America. The boy from England was doing everything he could to stay in America. Frankly, I think my generation (myself included) takes our possessions and freedoms and standard of living for granted quite a bit.

My family always takes off our shoes, and it's usually polite to take off your shoes in someone else's house. I always ask what they prefer when I visit someone.

Most people I know go to Wal-Mart. The problem with Wal-Mart is that it takes business away from a lot of smaller American shops. Wal-Mart has also bought out a lot of company's in the past. They are a super monopoly.

We don't have curtains, but we have blinds, and they're closed most of the time.

We usually lock all of doors.

No one I know lives in a very big house.

Euro = around 5.5 Shekels (our money)..

I love how all our opinions are different, well, us Americans from where we live. I live in Louisiana and it's often either called the hick, hill billy, redneck state or the party state from New Orleans. I just love it when students will transfer into my high school from places like Texas or even way up north and they're like, "I thought you would all have crazy country cajun accents!" and we're throwing words out there that teens have never heard like, "Aw, man. That's so beast! And that was so monster!"

My friend, Trey, from Vegas was like that. The first month he was here, he was like, "I cannot stop saying beast since I got here! I've never heard of that until I moved!"

But there are the typical views of Louisiana here and the not-so-typical. Like, I live in a pretty nice neighborhood in a two-story house and down the way is the projects and down the other way is the real expensive houses, the mall, the city, etc. And we have wild Mardi Gras.

Random, but this thread made me think of it.

And as for the beginning of the thread's posts... I feel so bad! I want to be a plastic surgeon and people just whip and whip plastic surgeons and those bodies I'm supposed to give people one day so I just feel so bad. Oh well. Wherever the money is.

Mrawr
08-05-2009, 11:02 AM
We don't have mardi gras here..

Also, I noticed people chew with their mouth open. Here it's a eating manner here to keep your mouth closed while chewing:D Or else.. everybody's going to look like: "Eewwww!":confusedmonkey ..lol haha:p

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-05-2009, 09:31 PM
lol, that manner goes everywhere if ur polite enough and have basic manners >.>
But sometimes ppl are not paying attention or just not have the basic manners =P.

Mrawr
08-05-2009, 09:40 PM
Yeah.., I think you're right :p I think manners are somehow quite important.. and I don't mind following them.. I don't follow them very much at home.. but when people stay over for dinner or I stay at someone else's place I always follow these rules:

1)Don't speak with your mouth full.
2)Don't start eating if everyone isn't there yet.
3)Don't leave the table without a pardon.
4)Don't eat with your mouth open.
5)Don't start cleaning up the table when someone still is eating..
6)No television while eating haha :D

On normal days I usually follow: 1, 2, 4 and 5 :]

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-05-2009, 09:47 PM
Yea, these make sense ^^, And they are followed, But offcourse, you pick which to follow around what ppl..
At home None of them is aplying for me ^^', I am saying thx for the meel though.. At my friends home we dont usually eat with all the family so its just everyone takes food when he wants too.. And Im sorta considered part of they family xD, So I ask if I can eat and I go and take alone, opening the friedge.. lol.. feeling at home ^^'.
And when Im in other ppl house I usually more polite..

Mrawr
08-05-2009, 10:01 PM
I think it's a bit scary to eat at other people's house, 'cause I'm always afraid that they have some manners I don't have and that I do something wrong and the parents of my friend don't like me etc. Even tough.. I shouldn't feel like that at all.. but still it's quite uneasy.. Mwhaha

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-05-2009, 10:05 PM
Dunno.. He is my best friend which I know since I dunno how young I was.. Since 1 year or something I guess, but its not really called knowing someone.. Anyway I feel confrtable (What the hell? how is that spelled?) in his house.. I dont really worry about manners at other ppl house.. I just being polite and if they have special manners someone will tell me.. So Im not tha worried about that ^^

Mrawr
08-05-2009, 10:16 PM
Haha, well how more often you go to your friends house, the more people feel comfortable..

The most uneasy feeling is when I'm eating at someone who is religious.. when I'm sitting at the table and they all start to prey.. I'm always like "Ehh...." and when they don't prey I'm always like "Don't skip the preying because of me, you should do what you must do :]"

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-05-2009, 10:22 PM
How often.. umm.. I would say almost everyday lol.. And When I go to his place we might go outside for abit or I stay late at his house doing something, playing the PC.. I even went to his outsider family like ants grandma uncles cousins.. And many ppl in his family know me =P.
I dont really it with religious ppl.. His family is not actually that religious.. I mean he says he believes in god but not doing anything to prove it XD, His mother and lil bro are the only ones I know from his family that are alil doing stuff like not eating milky stuff with meet and so on.. but yet.. they are not doing much too.. I barely have religious friends.. maybe one or two.. and those who are I dont eat with theyr families..

Mrawr
08-06-2009, 06:55 PM
Haha, I understand that you feel quite easy at your friend' s place, if you come there so often and knows his family :D
I don't go that much to my friends their houses, mostly they visit my place, or we' re outside..

Eww, I got like.. sunburned :| It hurts *cries* oh well.. hmm.. I' ve already told you how fast I burn, and when I went to the pool i already knew I was going to get sunburned..:p lol.. Stupid sun with it' s killing UV *sigh*

Mrawr
08-10-2009, 01:33 PM
The Netherlands it was haha :] Ehm, yeah.. most people use 30, as far I know "45/50" is used in Australia.. 45 totally blocks the uv, so you won't get tanned if you use that one.. it's also very thick one :| I don't like sunblockers.. when you use them, you get sticky xD

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-10-2009, 01:42 PM
Right! Netherlands! u said its near England then.. right?
Anyway, I dont usually use em.. I got to the poll when there is no sun anymore and most of the time staying for night swimming ^^.
why wont u put stronger sun blocker? its sticky anyway haha!
Oh btw, u should join a club or something, I dont like it when we talk in those threads xD.

Mrawr
08-10-2009, 01:52 PM
Yesh, yesh :3 Oh, sounds fun :D Well.. those stronger sunblockers are.. expensive and they totally block the sun, so I wouldn't get a little bit of a tan, I like my white skin colour tough.. but it has it's downs.. Yeah you're right mwhaha :'] we're talking over two different threads mwhaha :']

Just feel ur name and stuffz in accodring to what they ask u in the club.

Unlike most people, I'm rather fond of America. Not like it's the only country with problems.

Haha, sometimes we wear shoes in our hoses, as stated earlier, but usually if they're clean or we're just staying for a couple of minutes.

I like to close my curtains, or else I can't sleep if there's any light in my room. Mainly they're to make a room look nicer, or "brighten it up" as we like to say, which is very ironic.

These days, everyone locks their doors. It's way too dangerous.
You don't want to walk in and find someone helping themselves to your new TV set, right? XD

And Wal-Mart does sell most appliances, and rather cheaply, too. But we don't shop there all of the time. Especially not for clothes.

And my house is downright tiny. It's made of wood, actually, but there are many houses made of brick. In America, you have houses from tiny single-wide trailers, to large, 80-acre estates.

And now that that's over with, may I ask you how you think American accents sound?

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-23-2009, 07:57 PM
about the shoes thing, I think everyone can wear shoes in the house.. I usually get em off, but I used to put them all the time when I was younger, and still now, If Im going outside for a moment and I forget about the shoes.. so I walk in shoes in the house..
American accent? in which language xD?

Mrawr
08-24-2009, 03:34 PM
Haha.. still still don't really get it, to be honesy (a)

@Soaki
Thanks for answering <3
The accents varies each state, right? Most accents are fine, but there are some accents which I hate to hear.. I don't know where they talk like this, i think in the South-East?..

I'd just like to say America is pretty frickin awesome. x3

Or so we'd like to believe. We are a supersized nation. Which rocks sometimes (massive jars of peanut butter!!), but then sucks a whole lot more. Go to Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas.
You'll understand then.

I didn't offend you, did I? If so, I'm sooooo sorry id that's the case!! It wasn't meant to offend you, I just don't like the accent.. :[

Hm.. in the Netherlands in the South, they also have like this horrible accents :| I never understand what they're saying.. even though it's the same language.. Farmers also talk with some kind of dialect.. they pronounce characters different.. In the Noth-Middle-SouthWest we say"ui" and the farms pronounce it like "uu".. I'm sorry that I can't let you hear the difference.. These two characters don't exist in English, and the way you pronounce them isn't common in English. Holland is also known by it's "G", but people in the south here can't say the G.

Oh-oh-oh I've found a video of a Dutch girl pronouncing our "G"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nNWZP4TEow
After the g, she says the way we pronounce the number 888, it has a lot of g's in it haha :D

LazyAnimeWatcher

huh? that wierd voises she does at the start is the 'g'?
Wow thats wierd XD!

Yeah.. it's a really odd sound.. Maybe I could record me saying the "G" and say some Dutch words which contain this character:D Oh oh!! Then I can let you hear how those people in the south pronounce the "G" haha :D

LMAO I made two videos, in one I pronounce it the way it should be, and in the second I pronounced it the incorrect/accent way.. but the second video was like"Aaaahh I'm not going to work:angrymonkey "

So I'll only post the first one haha :P
Yeah I look stupid, my hair looks gross, and the camera isn't very good.. Also did the camera make me look red-ish 0__o

Click for video (http://nl.tinypic.com/r/2chtac/3)
In the end you don't hear how I pronounced the "g" on it's own..
But yeah.. all the words I say start with a G, so I think you'll get it anyway haha :D

Here are the words + translation haha :]
Groot -- Big
Groen -- Green
Geel -- Yellow
Geen -- None
Grappig -- Funny
Goed -- Good

Mrawr
08-26-2009, 03:50 PM
Ah in that way :P I get it, but if you listen to the first character of the word pronounced, you can hear the "G", the same one as in the video of that other girl on youtube :]

LazyAnimeWatcher
08-26-2009, 03:52 PM

08-26-2009, 04:24 PM
There's no such thing in English haha:D English people need years of practising to learn the Dutch G.. But these things also exist in Dutch, most dutch people can't pronounce the "th" in English, I can though.. I grew up with speaking a lot of English in my life :]

Mwhaha :] I think Dutch sounds stupid and.. clumsy in some kind of way =P And damn.. it's a hard language to learn.. the grammar is crazy and yeah.. lots lots lots of things to think about while writing.. Respect for all those who aren't Dutch and are able to speak/write it fluently haha :D English is easier.. and it sounds better :]

atzelea_kun
08-28-2009, 02:01 AM
Huh? I thought English was the hardest language to learn.

English? the hardest language to learn? It has alot of rules but.. its really not the hardest, I mean never XD!
You really think I learned English at school? maybe alittle but most of my English is from MMO's, speaking with ppl which lives outta my country, as for here for example and when I read subtitles when I watch anime.
