What happens when two people meet unexpectedly, and there's a spark? They may have never seen each other before that night, but they feel a connection. Fate, some call it. Karma. Kismet. All those things that portend it was meant to be.
But Fate, as we all know, has a strange sense of humor. If humor it can even be called. So what happens when this unexpected pair meets the most unexpected of possible happenstances? Only time... and Heaven... will tell.

Name: Maria Maxwell
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Back Story: Maria has never much liked to talk about her past. At least, not the first eighteen years of it. This is because she grew up in a rougher part of town, with parents whose marriage was… tumultuous. At first, all she thought they did was argue a lot, and in fact, the young Maria had just assumed that this was how marriages were- shouting and periodic strange thumps in other rooms. As she grew older, she came to realize that this was an anomaly- and just how far the tumult went. Maria could never figure out why her mother never walked out, given how things were, except perhaps that she had married young, never gained any viable skills outside the home, and thus had no means to support herself. In the poor neighborhood they lived in, there was no real support network there, either.
Maria swore she would never allow such a thing to happen to herself. She would make sure she had multiple escape routes, and she would shop long and hard before settling down with anyone for keeps. Hence, Maria put herself through college, doing a double major in photography and writing. The writing would allow her to work for a newspaper or, if nothing else, teach, while she tried to do her camera work. In the meantime, she supported herself by modeling- for art students, small-time advertisements and magazines, and a few times when things were really lean, the sort of publications that she prefers not to talk about and typically leaves off her resume of past experience unless otherwise necessary. People don’t take a girl who does that sort of modeling seriously, no matter whether it was solely motivated by being able to pay the next month’s rent or not.
Her social life has been a casual one. Maria made her share of friends, but has always been careful to keep boyfriends from getting too close. Recently, however, she’s been feeling restless. Maybe it’s time to finally start looking?... Her career is still in progress, yes. But she does have the coveted independence. So maybe it’s time to start looking more seriously, she thinks. To start shopping around. See what sort of spark might be ignited… and for once, open herself to the chance.

Name: Will Coleman
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Back Story: Will was born in northeastern America, the son of renowned ship designer Paul Coleman, who left for sea when Will was still a child. In her husband's absence, his mother Octavia turned to the church. Will took after his father and obtained education in electrical and mechanical engineering, and was selected for a prominent engineering academy. However, he was unable to afford the tuition because his mother had purchased a Vested-level title in the church. As a result, Will's relationship with his mother soured and the two parted shortly after he entered his legal-ages. For some time, Isaac has been attempting to reunite with his father, who'd mysteriously gone missing, his personnel files classified by high levels of the government. He currently leads an unsatisfied life, and wants to find someone he can spend his life with. In this case, his afterlife...

(Can do!)

Night was just falling. It was a Saturday in the city; the sky's lights went down, and those of clubs and bars went up. Care tires still whizzed against the pavement in a ceaseless susurrus, and overtop that, there was the shapeless cacaphony of squealing brakes, rattling lawn mowers, and somewhere, a barely-discernible note of discordant music.
The last would get louder as the evening passed, and the partying got started. And during all this, one young woman was preparing to go out for the evening. It was something akin to a knight putting on his armor; only this time, the young woman donned a fitted top that accented her ample bosom, accompanied by a short skirt, styling her russet hair to fall about her shoulders in artless waves, annointing herself with not holy water, but make-up, before battle.
To Maria, that was something what it felt like. She had resolved to be through with casual relationships. Finally, she wanted the real thing. And tonight, she was going to start thatsearch. To try to find someone with which she could share something true and vital and, above all, lasting.
It was unlikely to meet anyone this night, of course. But to begin the quest, one had to at first step out. Maria finally finished her armoring with a set of strappy heeled shoes. Checking herself in the mirror to make sure nothing was out of place, she gathered her handbag and went out into the night, heels clicking against the sidewalk pavement.

Will, suddenly lacking his usual guts and gung-ho attitude and entusiasm, stood outside the building that was overflowing with people and noise. Even from outside, he could tell everyone was dancing and having a good time. Smiles and laughs. Yet he felt like he was stepping onto the pedestal for his own execution.
Chill out, Will...it's just a dance, with all of your friends, and everyone's having fun. Just go inside. Look around for a girl. You've done this before--you know the routine. Get in, pick up, go home. Right?
That was usually the plan, but he had quickly grown quite tired of the drama, wild nights, and weekly break-ups. There had to be someone different from the rest of these yahoos he usually dated, usually for a day or two at a time. Tonight would be different, he told himself. Tonight had to be different.
He stood outside, however, unwilling (or unable) to step inside. Why was he so nervous? It wasn't like everyone was suddenly going to start hitting him with random objects. It was just a dance! And yet, there he stood, frozen on the spot, staring eagerly inside. Crap...

Guendolen_Sama

Maria had one target in mind- a dance party at a club not too terribly far from her apartment. In fact, the walking distance was precisely why she had chosen to go there. It was another quiet assertion of her independence, being able to come and go as she pleased without worrying about relying on anyone else for transport.
She could hear the themp and piund of the music from two blocks away. Luckily this was in the club and bar streets, so no one here would complain about the noise.... By the time she drew close, it was a dull roar.
As she drew closer, tires squealed, screeching. A car careened around the corner, swerving from one late to another and back again, the driver obviously intoxicated. Maria hurriedly lunged to one side, in case the vehicle swung up onto the pavement.
But her heels set her off-balance, and she half-stumbled to one side and colliding with a young man standing on the sidewalk, looking at the building. "Oh, I'm sorry! Excuse me! That driver...."

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 06:06 PM
He saw the car as well, and was busy turning to look when she bumped into him. He steadied himself, holding her up at the same time. He knew the guy in the driver's seat--some drunken idiot that was always on the road while drinking, the moron--and waved a fist at him as he drove by. "Erm, it's alright, he's just an idiot." He noticed the way she was dressed. "You're, uh, here for the dance, right?"

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 06:11 PM
Maria looked after the drunken driver for a moment before glancing back. "Sure am," she said, looking at the young man and brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "How about you?" He'd looked like he wasn't sure he wanted to go in. Shy, perhaps? Maybe she'd lend him a hand. It was hard for people who were self-conscious to venture into settings such as this one....

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 06:21 PM
He'd thought she looked dressed for an outing. He glanced back at the door, lights and colors flashing around the edges. "Uh, I'm not exactly sure. I'm supposed to, but..." He rubbed the back of his head, thoroughly embaraced. Aw, geez...this girl...crap, am I blushing?! Sure enough, his face was getting warm, and his cheeks were turning slightly pink.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 06:26 PM
Was that a blush? Maria grinned, just a bit. It was somehow endearing.... In fact, it made him positively cute. "Supposed to be? Meeting someone? Sounds like a problem, in this crowd.... Tell you what. Let's hit this joint together, and I'll help you find your friend. How about it?" Her smile was artless and trick-free. Maria just... felt an urge to help, for some reason. In fact, for a moment she even felt an odd urge to tuck their arms together and just lead him inside.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 06:31 PM
He blushed a little more. Geez, what's with all the blushing?! It's just a girl!! "Uh, thanks, but I'm not really meeting anyone...or rather, they don't know it yet. Heh heh..." He mentally facepalmed himself. What the hell?! Why am I telling her this?! And why am I so bashful?! Ugh! It's just going to be one of those nights, I can tell. "Though I, uh, wouldn't mind going in with someone. Doubt I can do it any other way." He grinned sheepishly.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 06:36 PM
Maria really had to work to hold back her giggles, at this point. He was- artless. There was no other word for it. Unaffected, probably looking to find a girl and not experienced in so doing. "Then let's go in together, and see what happens," she said, this time linking their arms together for real. "I came by myself too. So why not go in alone together?" And if they happened to spend more of the evening together, Maria couldn't say she'd object.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 06:41 PM
"Uh, er..." He babbled slightly, taken aback. He'd suspected she was alone, but he was startled anyway. He could feel his face redden even more. Say yes, you idiot! Yes!! "Um...sure. I'd love to go in with you. Wait, no, I mean..." ...you idiot. Why are you so disfunctional?!

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 06:48 PM
Maria looked up at him. "If you don't want to, you don't have to," she said gently. "I just... thought that maybe since we both came alone, it might be nice to hang out for a bit...." Okay, what's wrong? Maybe he doesn't like redheads. Maybe the outfit is too much. Maybe the boobs are too big and scary. Maybe.... Oh, why was she thinking all these things? She was being absurd! And by now, Maria was also starting to blush, just a bit.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 06:57 PM
"Uh, n-no, I want to! I just, uh..." He rubbed the back of his head. "Feeling a little...nervous. Tripping over myself." He noticed her blush after a little while. Hold the phone...what's this? Maybe I have hope after all... To be funny, he looked down at his feet. "Not tied together? Huh...I must be nervous. That, or Red Bull doesn't react well with night-old pizza."

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 07:00 PM
Maria's laughter erupted, at that. It was a full-throated sound, rich and vibrant. "I suspect that the two would not be precisely a perfect match!" she said, the laughter still in her voice. "So come on. Let's hit this place while we're both still coherent." Yes, including herself in this endeavor. Maria was more composed than her as-yet unnamed companion, but she had proven to be flappable all the same. Speaking of which.... "Hey, before we get in there and have to start shouting to hear each other, what's your name? I'm Maria."

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 07:07 PM
He smiled at her. Maria...It's a pretty name. Crap, I didn't say that out loud, did I? I don't think so. Good. "Last I checked, I was Will. I dunno, I might have to check that Red Bull can to see if I wrote my name on it, just in case." He shrugged his shoulders. "Let's go with Will until I'm sure."

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 07:13 PM
Maria laughed again. He had quite the sense of humor, it seemed. "Well, if you discover it's Engelbert Humperdink instead, please let me know, so I don't embarrass myself," she said, with another chuckle. "But come on. Let's get in there and see if we can have some fun. I'll buy you a drink."

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 07:19 PM
"Alrighty then, lead the way." He looped their arms back together. Maybe...she's the one I've...No! Can't jump to any conclusions. Gotta work this one carefully...make it feel like...a date? Yeah, a date. Dating is good. I think.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 07:23 PM
"You got it." Maroa companionable tapped her hip against his and led the way to the door. There, they had to show their ID to prove they were of age, pay the cover charge to get inside, and then have a stamp set on the backs of their hands to prove that yes, they had in fact paid, if they had to leave the building and come back for any reason.
Then it was inside. The music and noise surrounded them like an envelope of sound. The walls fair to vibrated, from the intensity of it. It was dark, but for flashing lights by the ceiling, bathing the people on the dance floor with a brilliant glow of ever-changing rainbow. Chairs and couches stood alongside the wall, along with some tables, and a bar was just visible at the far side, of course mobbed by party-goers. The place pulsed with life and energy.
Even as they walked in, Maria's mind worked. She'd come here to meet people. What about this one?... No. Too soon. They had barely spoken for five minutes! But... somehow... if it could be longer.... Who knew? Maybe....

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 07:32 PM
Will eyed the dance floor--the center of the room, packed wall-to-wall with people. They could barely move, let alone dance. He leaned into Maria's ear, shouting so she could maybe hear him. "Floor looks packed. Let's sit down and wait for it to clear a little."

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 07:40 PM
Maria felt an odd little shiver run down her spine as she felt his breath against her ear. A shiver of awareness, rippling all over her skin. "Sounds good!" She stretched up to yell back, having to basically press right against him to reach. "Let's get that drink now!" Her head angled to the bar as a silent clue, in case he didn't understand her.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 07:52 PM
He nodded, not feeling like yelling again. He led her there with their arms still looped together, as to not get seperated. Somebody bumped them, as expected, and their bodies were pressed together. His blush instantly returned. She's so warm... "U-uh, sorry," he yelled.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 08:00 PM
Maria shook her head. "Don't be!" she shouted back. It wasn't his fault, after all. Besides, for that brief second.... It had felt good. The warmth, a certain solidness.... Very different from her own well-padded figure. Her own cheeks grew a bit heated, and she distracted herself by shouldering closer to the bar, leading Will with her.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 08:05 PM
He followed her to the bar, taking a seat. The waitor was busy--quite, by the looks of it. He had already decided maybe--maybe--he'd try to work things with Maria. She came alone, which meant she likely was single, and her...ugh, everything! Too much to pass up. It would be a sin to let her be single for another day.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 08:08 PM
As luck would have it, two people vacated the bar just as Maria and her companion made it there. Thus, the two of them were able to gain the abandoned stools. Maria climbed onto her own carefully; a necessity, given the short skirt she was wearing. Maria didn't mind showing leg, but she wasn't displaying any higher than that except for a private viewing. And it did cross her mind that maybe, just maybe, she might be allowing one of those tonight....
See where it goes. See if they hit it off. They'd only just met, after all. Maria signaled to the bartender as soon as he had a moment. "Rum and Coke, please!" she shouted; the music was muffled here, to a degree, but still very loud. She then angled a look at Will to see what he wanted.

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 08:20 PM
"Same here," he shouted. He turned his attention back to Maria. His eyes flicked down--her skirt was just a little too open. He quickly averted his gaze, trying not to embarrass her. "Um, where're ya from?"

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 08:25 PM
Maria looked down for a moment- and realized what was protruding. Oh good heavens! At least she wasn't one of those celebu-tarts who didn't wear underwear.... Maria was thanking God and anyone else who would listen for that, right now! She hurriedly yanked on her hem, dragging the skirt downward. It promptly slid back up- even higher than before, in fact. Maria hurriedly drew her stool closer to the bar, so the top would serve as a shield. "I- I'm from- from around here," she stammered, using the extraction of her wallet as an excuse to avert her gaze. "You?"

The Librarian
08-29-2009, 08:36 PM
He wasn't looking at her, but he guessed what she was doing. He promptly looked straight at one of the cans lined up on the booth, in respect for her...perdicament. "Same here," he said. "Living by myself for a few years now." He had an urge to look, but didn't. He had more dignity than some of the skirt-chasing idiots in here. He gave women the respect they deserved, and nothing short of that.

Guendolen_Sama
08-29-2009, 08:41 PM
Maria nodded. "Same here," she said. She'd always liked her independence, and still did. Yet she also wondered whether or not it might be nice to let someone in.... She discreetly lifted her bottom off the stool, just enough to tug the skirt back into place. There, all good. Now, just get their drinks....

(Sorry, I have to go. Not sure when I'll be back.)

{Ah. Meh, old habit. Hiya!! *waves crazily*}

The waitor finally got to their drinks, but still had atleast two dozen more customers to attend to. They couldn't pay me enough for that job... He took a sip, then wrinkled his nose at the taste. He hadn't heard her correctly when she had ordered. Not wanting to be rude, he took another sip. "You come to these sort of things often?"

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 12:13 AM
(Hi back! **waves**)

Maria sipped some of her own drink. "Sometimes," she replied, giving the mixture a stir with the little stick it came with. "Not too too often. Just when I want to get out, maybe meet some new people." She'd already succeeded in that tonight. "Hey, if you don't like that, I can get you something else," she offered. "What would you prefer? Though you may want to give it a stir; sometimes all the rum sinks to the bottom." She had to say, the bartender had been a bit heavy-handed with it tonight. More so than she usually drank.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 12:22 AM
"Nah, it's alright." He stirred it a little, then took another sip. Not much better. Oh well. "I'm always at these things." Truth be told, he wasn't sure why. It's not like there was any satisfaction in picking up women one night, waking up in bed with them, then never seeing them again. It was miserable. He just didn't know any other way of meeting people. "I, uh, was looking for a change of pace. So, I wanted to try things different. Probably why I was a regular totem pole outside when I went to come in."

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 12:29 AM
"Change your mind, just let me know," Maria replied in regard to the drink. She chuckled at his description of himself. "Totem pole? Yeah, can't argue.... So, what's different about this joint? A little wilder than usual, perhaps?" That would explain why he'd been so frozen outside. "Gotta say, this is rowdy even for me. I don't hit places like this often. Sometimes, like I said, but usually when I go out it's not so... raucous."

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 12:37 AM
"Nothing, really. Same drinks, same music...just a regular club." He looked into his cup, staring into its contents as if they had a deeper meaning. "Only change is...what I want after the music stops." True, all true. He came into a club, as he always had, met a girl, as usual, but he prayed this would be as far as the usual routine went. He looked forward to the end of the cycle of "get in, pick up, wake up, repeat."

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 12:40 AM
"Oh?" Maria leaned her elbow on top of the bar, and rested her cheek lightly on the connected hand. The other hand raised her glass, taking another drink from it. If the bartender was going to be so heavy-handed with the alcohol, she was going to have to be careful and pace herself. Not good to take too much, when you came in by yourself.... "What you looking for that's different?" A different sort of girl? Or... maybe he'd been into boys at some point, and was only now looking for girls? Maria might think vice-versa, but if that were the case, then he'd hardly be hanging about with her, now would he? That would hardly forward such a cause.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 12:44 AM
He shook himself from his thoughts. "Uh, i-it's nothing important." What are you talking about? It's everything important! Because it's the only thing that's important! "Probably not going to find it, anyhow." Also true...he had a reputation as a bit of a "dawg." The only girls interested in him at this point were the...well, ones looking to get picked up. The fact that Maria hadn't heard of him was a miracle--and possibly a blessing.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 12:50 AM
Maria's head angled to the side, elbow sliding sidelong a bit so she was almost looking up at him. "It's not important? If you're here looking for it, then it's gotta be. Maybe I can help." Uh-oh, he didn't have any... erm... interesting diseases, did he? After all, she knew nothing about his past history.... She'd never encountered that with any of her past men, but that was because she'd been careful.

(I'm going to grab a shower; see you in a few.)

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 01:00 AM
{Yup, see ya.}

He looked at his drink, more so he didn't have to look directly at her than anything. Whoa-- here's your chance! She said she wanted to help! Wait, no...she doesn't know what I'm looking for. If she did, she'd probably reconsider. "You, uh, probably won't want to, since I'm looking for a date." Well, that was one way to play it...act meek and modest, slightly pitiful, and see if she would bite. If she did, she probably felt bad for him and wanted to help. That would mean she was a good person...or a heartless opportunist. Probably the first, he hoped.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 01:08 AM
"Well, why didn't you just say so?" Maria stretched, arms overhead; the gesture unwittingly did very interesting things to her bust, as well as providing a brief glimpse of taut midriff. "What sort of girl you looking for? Tall, short? Thin, curvy? Quiet or fun-loving? If you want quiet, here may not be the best place to look." She grinned. "And hey, if no one else suits your fancy, there's always me!"
Wait- why had she just said that? It just popped out, unbidden, completely unplanned. Maria wasn't usually so forward. Whatever happened to caution? She'd only just met this guy! But once the words were spoken, they weren't going to be unsaid. Besides, she realized that well... if he did ask her out, she'd say yes.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 01:15 AM
"Well, I'm kinda-" He stopped, looked at her, then mentally smacked his forehead. Idiot...you see?! Why didn't you just ask!? "Well, um...if it's alright with you..." He felt pink start to crawl across his face. No, NO!! Don't you dare freeze up now! "Uh...yeah, if it's alright with you, I guess, then..." ...still lost his momentum. Oh well, good enough. Atleast he got his point across.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 01:18 AM
The blush did it. That was just so darn cute! Maria laughed- no, more giggled. She swallowed some more of her drink- wait, when had she almost emptied that glass?- and leaned in, resting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm very much okay with it," she said with a playful smile. "Wanna hit the dance floor soon?" It looked slightly less crowded now. And nothing kicked off an impromptu date like club dancing.... It was decidedly more provocative than the typical sort, after all.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 01:23 AM
He sighed in relief. Why was he so nervous? He'd picked up girls by the dozens before this. It must be the new attitude he'd taken on. "...alright, yeah. I'd love to dance with you." Crap, had that made him sound too eager? "Uh, I mean, uh..." Crap. Here he was, tripping over himself again...

(Um, I'm not sure I'll be any good at describing the actual dancing. I don't know how to myself, so I can't very well write it down, can I? Uber-fail. :D')

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 01:39 AM
(Don't worry, this kind is simple. I've seen it done. No real steps involved. You pretty much just hold on to each other and swing your hips and what not. It's all improvised.)

Maria laughed again. He seriously was too cute. It was such a nice change from all the guys who tried to be so super-smooth, in places like this. Refreshing. "Well, come on, then!" Maria tossed back th last of her drink and, revved on adrenaline and the beverage, grabbed Will's hand and tugged him out to the dance floor. When they got there, she swung around to face him, setting her hands on his shoulders and moving in close, close enough that her chest brushed his, and started to move.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 01:44 AM
He blushed freely now, and the chest-part didn't help. He moved stiffly, like his joints were frozen over. C'mon, Will...it's just a dance, with a girl, just like always...chill out. Calm down. This part, atleast, is just like always. He willed himself to calm down, but his heart continued to pound.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 01:48 AM
"Relax!" Maria leaned up to whisper in his ear, unwittingly pressing full against him in order to do so. "Just have fun with it! No pressure.... Come on, like this." She took his hands and set them on the curve of her hips. "Follow my movements." Her hips swung, almost circling. One leg moved forward, foot between his, so they were now very close together indeed. "See? Like this!" Her hands were on his shoulders again, and she was smiling, clearly enjoying dancing with him.

"Uh, y-yeah, I get it now." He followed her movements, still somewhat uncomfortable. Easy...easy...you can do this... He focused on his movements, trying his best not to step on her feet. He had his own feet to walk on--no need to walk on hers, too.

"There you go." Maria grinned up at him, sliding her feet so they were well out of range of his. Not that feet needed picked up that often, anyway. Not for this sort of dancing. It was a lot more "stand and sway" than anything else. "Fun, isn't it?" she said with a saucy little wink.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 02:05 AM
Spirit, attitude...and a charmer. SHe's like a female me. "Uh, yeah!" He said, the wink sending shivers up his spine, plus a little more color in his face. Aw, geez, enough with the blushing already!

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 02:18 AM
The renewed blush made Maria giggle again. He was so darn cute.... Yes, this was definitely someone she wanted to get to know better. She didn't say anything else; just winked again and kept dancing. In fact, she slid even a little bit closer. It was that sort of music right now, a pulsing rhythm that made one think of more... fundamental activites.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 02:22 AM
Uh, she's getting closer... Her breasts touched his chest, and his face reddened. He couldn't come up wiht anything to say, and he wsa thrown off-rythm slightly. Oh boy, here we go...

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 02:37 AM
Maria just chucked. "Don't tell me you've had enough already!" she said. Truthfully, not much conversation was necessary right now. On the dance floor, actions spoke louder than words. The music was pretty loud for it, anyway....

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 02:43 AM
"Uh, n-naw, just thinking." True enough. He might as well focus on the matter at hand...ah, right. Advancing. That was the next step. Always worked in the other dates, and every pick-up book for dummies or otherwise had called for them. Always worked before. So, swallowing the brick-sized lump in his throat, Will took a small step closer, dancing just a little closer to her.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 02:57 AM
"About what?" Maria said. Her mouth was right be his ear, to make herself heard. When he moved closer, she grinned. That felt good. Really good. So, just for the fun of it, she blew softly on his ear. Just to see what he'd do.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 03:00 AM
He shivered; it made his heart sputter when she did it. It was...entoxicating. Now he knew she was interested. Perhaps a little charm is in order... "Uh...you, actually. You're just as great to think about as you are to be around."

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 03:03 AM
"Oh, really?" Yes, Maria was definitely interested. There was something about this guy. He just... felt right. Yes, they had just met, and yes, they didn't know much about each other. But she was eager to learn more. "Anything in particular?" she said. Then she promptly gave his earlobe a light nibble. Her one hand slid down to rest more against his upper chest.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 03:11 AM
He grinned, suddenly much more at ease. His hands went around her waist. "Well...I'm not sure that everything is very specific. There's a lot to like, y'know." This girl...perfect. A perfect girl for him. There was no doubt in his mind. It was all coming together so well! This was something you'd see in one of those romance novels--a man and a woman, total chance meeting, a spark...it was like the puzzle that solved itself. It was beautiful...now that he thought about it, so was she.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 03:18 AM
"Mmm. You know how to make a girl feel good." Now that he wasn't stuttering and blushing all the more, Will was quite the charmer. Maria felt a note of pleasure at bringing out this side of him. "Luckily for me, I'm hearing it from a guy who I see a lot to like about, myself...." It was only true. His voice, his eyes, his hands- he just felt good. This all felt right, even. Maria was wondering if she may just have found something lasting. It was like a scene from a movie.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 03:21 AM
He smiled, looking down for a moment. Maybe, she's the one... "Hey...what do you say we go somewhere a little more quiet so we can talk? Plus, all these flashing lights...I want to see if you're just as pretty in normal light. It'll be pretty hard to beat, though."

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 03:32 AM
"I think I like the sound of that." Maria brushed her cheek against his. "I want to get a proper look at your eyes," she said in his ear. "See what they look like outside this place.... And being able to talk more would be perfect." Talk and, possibly, get to know each other at least a bit better in other ways as well. Maria then lightly kissed his ear. It was a promise, or at least a sign that if more kissing were to happen, she certainly wouldn't mind.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 03:39 AM
He blushed at her kiss, leading her by the hand to the back. He'd been in here many times before, ranging from rough make-out sessions to tender, meaningful words, he'd done it all...but none of it mattered. Now he had the girl of his dreams right behind him, willing to do whatever he wante--
No. That's the attitude that got me here in the first place. This is what I felt with all those other girls. This one...has to be special. He led her to a section of the club where the music could barely be heard, bar the thump, thump of the amplified bass. He sat down on an club member-exclusive couch, patting the seat beside him. This is where it all begins....

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 03:43 AM
Maria sat down next to him, angled inward so she leaned closer- not against his shoulder, but easily able to do so if the moment seemed right. Her legs crossed gracefully. "Hm, this is a far sight better than those bar stools," she said with a laugh. And yes, she blushed a bit as she said it, remember the trouble she had experienced with said stool. That had been unusual, and rather embarrassing. Maria wasn't one of those girls who flashed it all without a second's thought. "Where would you like to begin?" Her fingers trailed lightly in the hair at the nape of his neck.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 03:51 AM
He chuckled. "I'll start by saying you look so much better in this light, impossible as it may be."

(Hey, as long as you don't make a habit of it and I don't have to struggle to reply.)

"And I'll add that you know how to flatter a gal." Maria's fingers teased the back of his neck. "Let me have a look at your eyes...." She leaned around, faces so very close together. "Mm... yes. That warm color.... Just what I thought. I had to see what they looked like, in light like this...."

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 04:00 AM
He grinned wider. "Suuuuure you did." He brushed a strand of hair out of her face, looking at those eyes. "Ugh, it's so hard to pick a favorite feature on you, you know. Quit being so pretty for a second so I can decide!"

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 04:06 AM
"Of course I did! I'd be affronted if you weren't complimenting me so much!" Maria was laughing as she spoke, though, to show that she was only teasing. This flirtatious exchange was all part of the game.... "If you'd like I can perhaps cover different features in ashes or sackcloth, so you can pick your favorite one at a time," she continued, now playing with the back of his collar. And yes, still leaning across. If anyone looked, the position would probably look somewhat compromising. But no one was paying attention or caring to their little world. "Or you can just say you like everything.... After you tell me what you really think I wanted, though, other than to see your eyes!"

(Sorry, I need to go to bed in a few. See you tomorrow.)

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 04:18 AM
"Cover up all this?" He rubbed his hand up and down her arm, feeling her skin. Even softer than I imagined... "That'd be such a shame. It's all perfect And if you must know, I think you were ready to steal a quick kiss when someone passed by, saying they bumped you." He was teasing her now, using their position for fun. It all just seemed so perfect...

(Aww! :( It's okay, I'll wait for you. G'night, pretty-Wendy-lady! :D)

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 11:14 AM
(Thanks. See you tonight, hopefully!)

Maria felt that warm shiver again, same as earlier. The skin on his fingers was a little rougher than her own, but not so much as one would think. It did make her mind wander, in fact.... But that could be explored later. "You think?" she murmured, still playingher fingers along the back of his neck. "But there's no one here to bump me.... Disappointed?" Her eyebrow lifted, laugh getting a few shades away from sultry.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 02:28 PM
"Yeah, actually. It would be kind of cute." He smiled a little, thinking of what that would be like... Of course, he wasn't one for cute things. Not his forte.' Still, the idea was...rousing. And appealing, too. His other hand felt the couch seat. It was a leather material, and it absorbed the cool air rather well. "Hey...couch feels kind of cold. Wouldn't you rather...y'know, sit on my lap?" He felt his face heat up more. "Uh, because it's warmer, that is. Don't want to be cold." Yeah, sure, Will....keep telling yourself that. WHatever floats your boats.

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 10:45 PM
Maria chuckled. She seemed to be doing a lot of that, this evening. "Oh, yes, of course. You're such a gentleman, worried over my comfort." She twiddled the lobe of his ear between her fingertip and thumb. Her speaking tone was playful and flirtatious indeed. "However, I'm inclined to agree. This leather is cool when you're wearing a skirt...." Especially one as short as the one she had donned this evening. Uncrossing her legs and still keeping her arm about his shoulders, Maria half-rose and slid across the seat to perch upon his lap, now arms both comfortably looped about his neck. This position put her head slightly higher, as well as no doubt giving him quite an interesting view. "Hm, yes. Definitely more comfortable..." She playfully wiggled about, as though settling into position. However, the gesture was definitely a tease.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 10:52 PM
He chuckled to himself. She was definitely a bright one. Something about her...unique. He's never met anyone quite like her before. The angle, though...he had to put effort into locking his eyes on her face. His eyes flicked over, despite his best efforts. There was a little more Maria visable than he would have preffered to see, and he quickly averted his gaze. Add that to her playfulness...rousing. To say the least. "So...what do you like to do for fun?"

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 11:04 PM
"For fun? Well...." Maria's little laugh was outright provocative. "Wouldn't you like to know...." Her fingertips traced the rim of his ear. "But seriously. I like to do photography, believe it or not. I'm trying to get it published, but it's my love, too. Light and shadow, just the right angle... it's exhilarating, though you'd never think so. I mainly do scenery, but the right person can sometimes inspire me to do a portrait shoot...." This was... odd. Maria had never told this to someone she had just meant; not to the level of showing her love for the art, anyway. But with Will, it somehow seemed right.

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 11:11 PM
"You love art, too?" Will's eyebrows raised. She was still playing, sure, but the topic piqued his interest. "That's funny, I do, too. I'm mostly doing mechinika right now, but I'm nothing fantastic. I do people, mostly with a little mechinika twist to it...I guess you could say I'm a mechinikite."

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 11:19 PM
"Sure. Mainly the photography, but also a bit of writing. Even modeling, though I prefer holding the camera to being in front of it. Some of it was in an art studio, though, for students...." Oh, hopefully he hadn't seen those couple of, well, dodgy publications she had posed for, in those couple of lean times.... He would no doubt decide she was a slut, at that point. And that... would hurt. So Maria hastily changed the subject. "But what's mechanika? I'm not familiar with the term."

The Librarian
08-31-2009, 11:25 PM
"That's so cool," he said, listening intently. "Oh, mechinika is the art of science fiction. You know, machines, robots, space...that sort of thing." He tapped his chin. "Hey, I think I've seen some of your publications...what's your last name again?"

Guendolen_Sama
08-31-2009, 11:32 PM
"Science fiction? Wow. That's really cool, actually...." Maria's stomach dropped a little at his next words, though. She didn't remember whether those magazines she had posed for had listed her name. Had they? One might have, actually.... Well, maybe he had seem some of the photographs she herself had taken and managed to publish; she done some nature shots and landmark ones.... Yes, that had to be it. Had to be. She had to remind herself of that. And not think of the way he might have seen her posed, instead.... "Maxwell," she said, trying to keep her voice from being too quiet. "It's Maria Maxwell." Why, oh why hadn't she used a stage name for that magazine?...

The Librarian
09-01-2009, 05:39 PM
He thought a moment, tapping his chin. "Maxwell...oh yeah, I remember now! Weren't you that girl in the nature shoots?" He noted her expression. She clearly wasn't very proud of them. Perhaps she'd hit a rough patch and had really needed money, then decided to...take drastic measures. She didn't strike him as one of those girls that were so eager to take their clothes off. "...hey, it's alright. You were really pretty in those." He offered her a light hug, to show he understood.

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 01:11 AM
At least he'd seen the lesser of two evils.... The outdoor "nymph" series was better than the other one, even if the pictures had still been on the explicit side. At least there had been an artistic element.... "Yes, that was me," she murmured, looking down, ready for the burst of laughter- or worse still, disgust at the idea that she had posed for pictures like that. So his next words made her head come up in surprise. "You- you really thought so?" Now it was Maria's turn to blush. "I... you didn't think they were too... well... too...." There was no other word for it. "Too porny? I mean, I was really hard up for money at the time, and it was the only job I could get short-notice...."

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 09:50 AM
That's what he'd thought--she was hard-pressed for money, and this was simply a last resort. "Porny? Naw, not at all. Besides, you're not like the girls that would do that stuff just for the hell of it. You had it tough, and you made due with what you could. My sister had the same thing happen with her." He smiled at her blush. She really was embarrassed about it. "It's alright, I understand. You're not a pornstar or anything just because of a few photos."

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 11:10 AM
"Well, thank you." Maria fidgeted again. The next words tumbled out before she could second-guess herself about them. "But- but there was another set- another time, when I was also hard-up- those really were... worse...." Her eyes went to her knees. "My name wasn't on them," she muttered, barely audible over the music. "But they were kinda... fetishy...." It was the key reason she'd gotten the money she did, for the shoot.

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 10:19 PM
Guessing by the way she was acting, she really didn't like those photos. Understandable, given the nature of said photos. "It's alright. You needed the money, that's all. You're still good in my book." Actually...now that he got to looking at her, the way she got meek and shrank in...it actually made her pretty cute. The blush made her seem more endearing. "I don't think any less of you, if that's what you're worried about. I still think you're pretty cool." He considered adding a flirty bit, then decided against it. There'd be plenty of time after she relaxed a bit.

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 10:32 PM
Maria glanced sideways at him, still blushing. "You mean it?" she said quietly. "You don't think I'm, you know, a slut or anything like that?" She'd gotten that before. Last time a guy got wind of the fact that she was the girl in those pictures, he'd thought he could get a quickie in the parking lot.... That had been depressed quickly, but... it had left a mark. This one wasn't flirting or anything, but... well, maybe that was better. There was more sincerity there. And he hadn't pushed her off his lap or anything, which was a definite good sign. Especially since he wasn't using her position to take any kind of advantage.

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 10:46 PM
He nodded. "I mean it. I don't think you're a slut, or anything like that, I promise." He brushed a strand of hair out of the way so he could see her eyes...those beautiful eyes. Combined with that blush, plus maybe the angle, she looked positively adorable. It made his heart do loop-da-loops just looking at her.

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 10:54 PM
"Thank you." His eyes were so soulful right now, somehow; they made her stomach do little flip-flops, inside. Next thing she knew, she was resting her forehead against his, eyes half-closed. "That... that means a lot. It really does." It meant there was respect, as well as attraction. Something that made Maria feel really good.

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 11:07 PM
He gave her a little smile, staring into those eyes of hers...he could feel his soul melting under her gaze. "Hey, no problem," he said as quietly as she had, sliding his arms around her waist. "Just don't stop being so pretty on me, alright?"

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 11:21 PM
Maria smiled, a soft and gentle expression. "I'll do my best," she said, snuggling against him. "But only if you promise to stay so sweet, to me. Okay?" Truly, he was the nicest guy she'd met in a very long time. And sitting in the circle of his arms like this was warm and comforting. Yet there was awareness there, too. The kind of awareness you only felt in regard to someone you were attracted to.

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 11:30 PM
He smiled a little more, holding her close to him. "I think I can manage that." He reached up and ran his fingers through her hair. It was so soft...what was it about her that made everything so wonderful to see and feel? Her skin, her eyes, her hair...like everything was crafted by angels.

(Did you get my PMs? The one's mostly junk, but the other's noteworthy. You can just skip the one. You'll know which one, I think...)

(Indeed I did! Replied a few minutes ago. :))

"Good." Maria sighed as he stroked her hair. That felt so good; such a gentle touch. What was it about this guy? He felt good. His hands, his voice, his eyes.... Everything just seemed so wonderfully fitting, somehow. Her forehead nuzzled his. And she started wondering what it would feel like to kiss him. Was it too soon?...

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 11:41 PM
(Yah, I saw after I got done typing. Never mind!}

He kept stroking her hair, embracing her with his other arm. Curious, the feeling he was getting...like maybe he should kiss her. Maybe it was too soon...well, maybe not. It hadn't been extrordinarily long, but not dramatically fast, either. Plus, she seemed to like him...yes, maybe...
Finally seizing the initiative, her angled his head slightly and brought their lips together, praying to just about anything that she wouldn't leap up and slap him, thus concluding their evening together. She was just to wonderful to not be around...

Guendolen_Sama
09-02-2009, 11:46 PM
(I probably posted while you were typing. Happens to me a lot!)

On some level, Maria was surprised, but on another, not in the least. This felt like a natural progression. You know, that was it. It just felt natural, period. Like it was something they needed to be doing, pure and simple. Her arms wound around his neck a bit more securely, and angling her head to the side a bit, she kissed him back. Slightly tentative, perhaps, as though testing the waters, not wanting to dive in full-force until she knew where they stood. But this felt too lovely to break it off. He was warm, and solidly comforting, and somehow it made her pulse quicken, her senses tingle. Maria threaded her fingers through his hair, almost gently holding his head in place. Yes, this felt perfect.

The Librarian
09-02-2009, 11:58 PM
Perfect. That was the only word that he could get through his head--perfect. It was like this was supposed to happen! Like they were both supposed to be there, on that particular night, share those particular words, and then they were to be here, where they were now. He leaned his back into the couch behind him, gently rubbing her back. What other explanation was there? He was in love. Then again, maybe he was supposed to be. It was the only thing that really made sense: they were meant to be together.

Guendolen_Sama
09-03-2009, 12:04 AM
Maria made a soft, wordless sound of approval when he started rubbing her back. The light fabric of her shirt shifted under his hand, bunching slightly. She felt an increased tingle of awareness, and a warm shiver at the feelings. The young lady squirmed a bit closer, arms snugging more closely around him- easy to do, as when he leaned back, it drew her more firmly across him. Feeling bold, she intensified her response just a bit more, to see what he would do. And overall, all she could think was how good this felt. Could this be the one she was meant to meet? That she could trust, share with? Maybe even share her life?...

The Librarian
09-03-2009, 12:22 AM
He smiled into their kiss, giving her a little squeeze. He started stroking her hair again, savoring the feeling of it between his fingers...so soft...and her lips! Heavenly! She was absolutely to die for! It was a miracle nobody else had scooped her up earlier, taken her home all to themselves...maybe the whole photo-thing was enough of a deterant...but he didn't care about the photos, or whatever else she did. She was too good to be judged over something like that.

Guendolen_Sama
09-03-2009, 12:28 AM
Maria squealed at the little squeeze, giggling into the kiss. It made her feel playful and squirmy. So squirm she did, this time a deliberate movement to brush herself against him, seeking closer contact. She nibbled on his lower lip, tugging just faintly. At the same time, her fingertips dipped inside the collar of his shirt, brushing the skin just below the back of the neck.

The Librarian

He smiled now, using his arm to hold her body tightly against his. He was now aware of her breasts pressing into his chest, and he blushed slightly. His hand left her hair and drifted down to her thigh, gently rubbing the smooth, flawless skin. She was warm, playful, and so nice to hold...a beautiful woman, no doubt about that. Even if he teased her after this, there'd always be a little more sincerity when he told her she was pretty.

Maria's skin rippled as she felt another of those warm shivers course through her, when his hand wandered. That felt so incredibly good.... She had to get closer, somehow. Moving on pure instinct, Maria twisted so that she was facing him forward, legs straddling his lap. Yes, it made her short skirt ride up, but right now that didn't even cross her mind. All she knew was that it meant she could now lean against him more fully, intensifying the kiss further. It was sliding into an all-out make-out by this point.

The Librarian

(Heh, Wendy has a dirty mind! :D)

He gave a chuckle into their kiss, slightly taken aback by her eagerness, but glad she was--he was a little, too. This all felt so right, so good... how couldn't he be happy? He added to the intensity of their kiss as well. Her straddling-position made it easier to hold her tight against him, and he shivered at the fact that their *areas* were aligned.

(Eh, what the hey? Join the club. :D')

(Hee hee. I'm full of surprises! ;))

Maria felt the shiver, they were pressed that close together. And well, it only intensified the awareness of what was now separated only by the barest bits of cloth. She didn't notice the stares they were getting, the couple of hoots of encouragement of other club members- she was that caught up in the moment. Fully pressed together, kissing more heatedly by the moment, letting hands wander.... Not caring about anything else but this. But him. It was just too amazing to be inhibited about.

The Librarian

While she didn't seem to be aware of their surroundings, he was...slightly more so than he realized. People were starting to take notice...perverts. Why couldn't they just leave them be? He reluctantly broke their kiss, immediately missing the feeling. "Hey," he said softly, caressing he cheek. "I think maybe we should take this somewhere more private. We're drawing a crowd." He could feel his face heat up crimson, realizing how their bodies were aligned.

(You don't mind going into more...R-rated content, do you? THese guys are getting pretty steamy...)

(Nope. My comfort level's actually pretty high, in that regard.)

Maria realized two things. One- a lot of people were staring. One even whistled at her, grinning. That led to realization two- her skirt was bunched up almost around her waist. The twin realizations made her face flame red. Especially realizing the implication inherent to their arrangement. "Yes, I... I think that sounds like a real good idea," Maria said softly. "In fact, I can't think of anything better...." She wanted to continue. More than that- to take it to the next level. To where they could go without worrying about the presence of others.

The Librarian

"Couldn't agree more..." He helped her up, flicking a not-so-polite gesture at one of the faces he recognized, then lead her by the hand down into a hallway where the crowd didn't follow. Dumbasses...getting a free show... He thought sourly to himself while looking for a good room to continue their moment in peace.

Guendolen_Sama
09-03-2009, 01:40 AM
Maria discreetly tugged her skirt down as she climbed off his lap, pointedly not looking at the people staring at them. Still, when one guy wolf-whistled at her, she shot him a deadly glare. Otherwise, though, she linked her hand through Will's and walked toward the back corridor with him. Places like this usually did have rooms for people who got carried away with the evening. It wasn't that late, so presumably one would still be available, right?

The Librarian
09-03-2009, 01:47 AM
Here--it looked like a dressing room for when performers came to the club and...well, performed. Nobody would be in need of one of these tonight... He led her in, flicking on the lights. The place actually felt kind of homey. Someplace no one would go into or check up on... He closed the door behind him, sliding into a couch like the one they had begun in. He patted his lap. "Alright, let's try this one more time. And no audience."

Guendolen_Sama
09-03-2009, 01:50 AM
The air scented faintly of stage make-up and hairspray. One would think it would be off-putting, but Maria found it to be not distracted. That could be the fact that she was caught up in the young man currently with her, though. "That," she said, "sounds like the best idea I've heard all night." She knelt on the couch alongside him, then moved so she was straddling his lap once more, arms looping about his shoulders. This time she was aware of her skirt riding up, but really didn't care.

He grinned, slipping his arms around her waist. He could already feel her warmth...He started by gently rubbing her back. "I'm glad you think so."

(Just switch to PMs if it gets too over-the-top. Probably no much longer...)

(Okie-dokie. Same your end!)

"That makes two of us," Maria murmured. She started dropping kisses all over the side of his face; cheek, temple, ear, jaw line. At the same time, her hands kneaded his shoulders, massaging through his shirt.

He smiled and closed his eyes, both from the content of being kissed so adoringly and from her massaging his shoulders. It felt refreshingly good--very relaxing. While she went about this, he started feeling her upper back through her shirt. He found her bra line, subtly felt along for the strap, then gave a quick flick of the practiced and trained finger and, low and behold, unclipped it. From outside her clothing. He gave a chuckle and a proud "Ta-dah" like he'd made a rabbit come out of a hat.

"Oh!" That was new! Suddenly, Maria's... assets... felt a good bit less inhibited. The bra slid out from under the shirt, because well, she'd worn a strapless one tonight. She chuckled, deliberately pressing in close. "Oh, you're good...."

The Librarian

He chuckled as well, waving his fingers. "Magic fingers, love. All in the fingers." He let the suggestiveness of his comment hang in the air for a moment, then stroked her hair with one of his hands, the other reaching under her shirt to rub her back. The skin seemed even softer there...

(Okay, pretty close...wanna just switch over now?)

"Like I said," he told her, out of breath. "All..in the fingers." He panted, then chuckled. "Well...had some help...from something else..."

Maria glanced down. "Yeah, I see what you mean." She burrowed her head against his neck. "Next time, you gotta show me what else those fingers can do.... And maybe give my own a go, on you." She grinned. "Or maybe something else...."

"Hey, there we go...planning ahead. Good thinking." He smiled, but he felt his spirits plummet as he got to thinking. This was all going as usual. Therefore, it was natural to assume it would all go as it always had, right down to the letter. That was the problem. He didn't want it to end the way it usually did a few days after their first session. He wanted more than just a sex partner. He wanted a life partner. I guess...she isn't the one...after all...

He sounded kind of... dull. For a moment, Maria wondered if he was disappointed.... But his reactions had been clear. She wasn't terribly experienced, but she knew enough to tell that. "What's on your mind?" she asked, fingers brushing his hair. "You look... thoughtful." And not like he was thinking about what had just transpired, either.

The Librarian
09-06-2009, 01:53 AM
Wow, she really was sharp. Smarter than most of the girls he'd met...and gone throuhg. "Heh...yeah, just thinking." He was mentally beating his head against the cognitive wall, but he wasn't perticularly eager to worry he with why. Besides...maybe all she was looking for was a fun night, too. Just like the others...just like always. I can't believe it...she's just another one...I don't want to believe it. She's so perfect! So wonderful, smart, pretty, funny...I'm going to lose her... The thought saddened him deeply. He'd been looking a long time for a girl like her, and now...

"About anything in particular?" Maria asked. "I know this sounds crazy, but sometimes I just let my mind... wander. Nowhere in particular. You know, go wherever it is it wants." Did anyone else do that? Maria had never really mentioned this to anyone before, figuring she would come across as a space cadet or something. But there was something about Will that made her want to confide things in him, share things she wouldn't normally share.

The Librarian
09-06-2009, 02:10 AM
"Yeah... me too." He was being honest about that, atleast; he had always had fun with his friends with his bizzare, borderline random thoughts about life and what-not. He'd come up with some pretty exotic stuff, some of which was actually quite clever. "Just...thinking about my life. My future, I guess..." Or maybe the lack thereof... His spirits continued to sag, and he found himself unable to look at her--what he was going to lose.

Guendolen_Sama
09-06-2009, 02:15 AM
"Your future, huh?" Maria leaned lightly against his shoulder. "You know, that's kind of funny," she said slowly. "Earlier tonight, I was thinking about my future, too...." And about what she wanted in that future. Would it be precipitous to mention what she had been wishing for, when she came out this night? Or would he think she was trying to entrap him?

The Librarian
09-06-2009, 02:22 AM
Oh? Curious...a fleeting thought caught his fancy, but he discarded it. No way she was coming here for the same reason tonight. THe odds were astronomical--he couldn't even begin to imagine what the chances were of them both meeting, having the same thoughts in mind, and getting together. Individually? Unlikely. Together? Impossible. But still...something seemed a little strange about it, so he tried something... "I guess...all these girls in their fancy 'pick-up' clothes...got me thinking about if they would ever have a future with someone. Then I guess I got to thinking if I would ever find someone like that, too...someone to settle down with. Live life with. Seems pretty...distant." He finally decided on the word. "Really, really distant..."

Guendolen_Sama
09-06-2009, 02:26 AM
"Did I look like one of those girls, to you?" Maria asked quietly. "It does seem odd to think that, that so many of the people here tonight would even want something more than a one-night stand or one-week fling, or whatever." Should she tell him? Should she? Maria's heart was hammering, to the point where she wondered if he could feel it, they were sitting so close together. "I... I hope I didn't, because... because I'm not one of those girls...." Her voice caught, just a bit.

There!! THat's it!! She's the one!! I knew it, I knew it!!! "Um..." He was so delighted to hear she wasn't--and from her own mouth, no less!--but suddenly found himself tripping again. And of all the timing... "Well...no, I didn't think so when I saw you...a-and, I remember thinking you were too smart to be like that...and...well..." He could feeling himself blushing now, probably a shade of crimson. "Well...I was thinking...y'know, maybe...we'd...um..."

Guendolen_Sama
09-06-2009, 02:46 AM
Maria couldn't help it. She saw the blush and giggled. This, the redness and the stammering- those were the "real" Will, she felt. Artless and unaffected. Just as unaffected, her arms hugged him about the neck. "You- you think so?" she said. "You're right- I've never been like that. I never want to. I came here because I was so tired of being alone and wary, and- and I hoped I might find someone- someone who maybe I could get to know better, spend a long time with.... A really long time...." She hesitated. Her final words were very soft. "Maybe, depending on how things go, maybe even forever?..."

He didn't move for a second, then his arms reached up and wrapped around her, holding her close to him. "Y-y'know...that's the exact same thing...I was looking for." So that was it--fate really did have a part in this after all. Otherwise, what explanation was there? They both went looking for love and found each other. A complete chance meeting. An instant spark. It was perfect.

Maria cuddled close against him, head pillowed on his shoulder. "What are the odds?" she murmured. "Makes you wonder if someone up there likes us...."

Maria nuzzled her head into the crook of his shoulder. "Well, I dunno if I'm perfect, but if you think so, I'm sure not going to argue." There was a smile in her voice. "Though it's funny, I was thinking I found a guy who seems just right for me. I can't wait to learn more things about you...." Everything from whether he was a morning person or a night owl to his favorite food to whether he liked warm colors or cold ones better, and on and on....

He gave her a light peck on the cheek, running his hand along her back. "Same here. I'm really looking forward to spending more time with you..." He suddenly became aware of the temperature. "Hey...maybe we should get dressed, too. Then we can cuddle the night away...get to know each other. Sound good?"

Guendolen_Sama
09-07-2009, 02:37 AM
Maria actually blushed, just a bit. She'd seriously forgotten about their state of mutual undress, believe it or not.... "Yes, that- that sounds good. Really good." Maria slid off his lap, somewhat self-conscious as she collected her scattered garments. "My place is only a few blocks from here, if you want to go hang out there," she offered. "It's not fancy, but I've got snacks and drinks and stuff...."

The Librarian
09-07-2009, 02:50 AM
"Sounds good," he said, putting his pants back on. he kept his eyes off her while she dressed; if he didn't have respect for her before, he certainly did now. Besides, he'd had his share for one night. He waited until she had her more private parts covered before putting his arms around her waist from behind, gently kissing her neck. "You and me? We're going to have some good time together...that's what I think."

Guendolen_Sama

Maria had gotten her undergarments on at this point, and was just pulling on her skirt when he pulled her into the backward hug. She leaned back against his chest, smiling at the neck kiss. Hm, maybe they could do a bit more of that, tonight.... She figured she'd done enough lovemaking, for this evening, but making out? Maybe later. "I think I have to agree," she said with a little laugh, settling her hands overtop his. "As that old song says, something tells me I'm into something good."

The Librarian
09-07-2009, 07:32 PM
He chuckled, embracing her for a few seconds, before resuming with dressing. This was going to be good, he could tell. And to think that a few hours before he was terrified to set foot into the club! He had been nervous, but it had paid off. In more ways than just finding a date, that was for sure... Once he was fully dressed, he stood by patiently and waited for her to finish as well, giving her privacy by turning his back. He'd noticed the way she blushed when he pointed out that they were naked, not to mention her reaction when he'd seen her underwear when they both got a drink earlier.

Maria hurredly pulled her shirt over her head, adjusted it into place, then got her heels back on. That took a minute. How on earth had she gotten them off so quickly, not long ago? A mystery.... Either way, when she was finished, it was her turn to go over and hug Will from behind, leaning her chin on his shoulder. "Ready when you are," she said, a smile in her voice.

The Librarian
09-09-2009, 12:45 AM
"Ahah, eager, are we?" He laid his cheek on her head for a moment, then turned around to hold her properly. They were both fully dressed now, although the image of her body when they weren't was still fresh in his mind. "Alright, then...we've got the whole night to ourselves." Cuddling in quiet of her home was an appealing thought; certainly better than the public, loud, and slightly smelly dressing room they were in. A nice, romantic evening together sounded...heavenly.

"Just as much as you are." Maria kissed the side of his neck; a casual gesture, more friendly-affectionate than any sort of active come-on. "It sounds wonderful, doesn't it?" Just them, cuddling and talking and... who would know what else? It sounded so relaxed, so lovely. Just what she realized, by now, that she had been wanting. What had been missing in her life.

"Mmm...it does. Beats the heck out of a party with those yahoos..." He ran his hand along her back, rubbing it lightly. "Just you and me, nobody else...I can't think of anything better." He could, actually. Just him and her, nobody else, spending even more time together...way longer than just one night. Maybe their lives... "What do you say we head over for a romantic evening alone at your place?"

"I think that's the best idea I've heard in a long time." Even better than them coming back here. What they shared had been fantastic, yes. But it was a prelude to what looked to be a far bigger and better thing. Just one aspect of a building greater whole, as it were. Maria let go of him long enough to reach down and collect her handbag. It was small, but important. Contained her apartment keys, for instance. When she straightened up again, her arm slid around his waist. "Let's go."

He put his arm around her shoulder in response and walked alongside her, still holding her close. Such a lively girl...and humorous, on top of that. Pretty, smart, fun, lively....everything and anything any potential suitor would ever want. How had she not been snatched away before this?! Ludicrous! Somebody had been really, really stupid to let her slide away.

Maria leaned her head half-against his shoulder, playfully tapping her hip against his as they set into motion. To say she was in a good mood right now was an understatement. Maria felt as though she were glowing. Even the sudden noise from the club, as they exited their little private room, wasn't enough to jar her out of it. In fact, she kind of liked having an excuse to press closer as they had to navigate the crowds within the place en route to the door. Still, she wondered why a guy this fun didn't already have a girlfriend. What twit would dump him, seriously? Well, it was her loss and Maria's gain.

As they crossed the room to the door, Will was on cloud nine. This night had gone fourty times better than he could have hoped. He was going according to plan--go in, pick up chick, make love, go out with chick--but they were going farther than that. More than just a one-nighter. This was real--they were really together this time. It was all so perfect. They stepped out into the crisp night air as a car--the one they'd seen earlier--rounded the corner down the street. It didn't slow when it hit teh speed limit--in fact, it kept going faster, jerking lightly from side to side, the driver obviously drunk...

Guendolen_Sama

It was funny, how silence between two people could be comfortable. Maria hadn't felt that before, in a relationship. Especially not when one was only just taking off. But she could just walk with Will, not worrying about maintaining a steady stream of small talk and aimless chatter. They could just be, knowing that conversation would flow naturally when it wanted to, and that they had all evening- and then some- to let things happen however they would.
The night air felt good, by the time they made it out of the club. It had been so stifling in there! Maria sighed, closing her eyes in delight. "To the right," she said, turning to steer them in that direction, to where her apartment building lay.
As they turned, tires screeched. A driver, obviously drunk, swerved wildly around the corner, vehicle jerking so crazily that it swung into the opposite lane, then back, then back again, steadily picking up speed- seeing no one, lost in the alcoholic torpor-
Maria had time for no more than a scream. That was it. In the movies, at moments like this, time slowed, everything long and drawn-out, the characters having just enough time to dramatically leap out of the way. But instead, there was just a flash. Car half on the sidewalk. Squealing of tires and the grind of brakes. A shout, somewhere. Her own scream.
And then-
Crash.

The Librarian
09-09-2009, 09:51 PM
He had time to turn his head before he saw a blinding light, heard a scream, and then...
Nothing.
It was peculiar, like he was floating. There didn't seem to be an up or down, or even a 'him' for reference. He did, however, have time to collect himself. That car...that scream...that was Maria, wasn't it? Wait-- Maria! What had happened to her?! Where was she?! He tried to call out, but the command never left his brain. In fact, it didn't even feel like he had a brain. Was this it? Was he dead? Just an aimless, drifting soul?
That was it, then. He was dead. He was actually dead.
He wasn't sure how to feel; angry at the ass who'd run him down, upset that he was dead, or...he finally decided on sadness. He'd had the girl of his dreams right beside him, and he was dead. He'd never see her again. He didn't even know if she was alive or not...
He had time to finish his thoughts before a wave of white washed over him...no, not white, light. There was a down again, as he felt it pulling down on him, pressing his face into...something soft. A pillow? No, why would there be a pillow here?
A cloud, he realized, wanting to laugh. I'm on a freaking cloud. I'm in heaven. Hahahaha! I'm actually in heaven! Hahahahahahaha!!

For a terrifying second, the world shattered. The sounds, the flashes, a terrible searing pain- that encompassed everything. But then....
Void. The sense of drifting, like floating in a swimming pool, perhaps, or that moment where you're riding a swing, and you reach the apex of height, and right before you drop back down again, the sensation of utter weightlessness.... Yes, that was it. Of having no substance, nothing but essence.
Maria couldn't see anything about her, see or feel. At first, she wondered if she was in a coma. Was this what it felt like? Would she remember when she awakened? And what about Will? What had happened to him? Was he all right? Had he been able to get out of the way in time?
But no, this didn't feel right. The drifting, the aimlessness.... Like being nothing more than a soul.
A soul.
That was the moment that she realized it. Maria was not in a coma. She was... dead....
Now, the stillness was of shock. Denial. No! That can't be! There had been a possibility of a future, finally. Peace, contentment, even joy. How was it right or just to finally take that plunge, be willing to trust, and then have it all ripped away when it was only just starting? Maria wanted to pound things with her fists, rail at the fates, curse this limbo she was in, all for swiping away the future-
That was when she realized that, well... she could move. Move and... and see.
There was whiteness everywhere, soft and fine. That was the feeling of weightlessness. Maria lifted an arm; her skin was whole and unmarred, and had an essence that was almost... luminous? And she seemed to be wearing some sort of simple white dress, unadorned and as weightless as the space around her....
Maria looked about. She wasn't seeing anything, still- just unyielding white. "Where am I?" she whispered. Was... was this the afterlife? If so, was she even destined to be alone there?...

The Librarian

Will didn't even try to contain himself--he bursted into laughter. WHat he was wearing, what he was seeing...the irony of it all. This was so predictable! This was exactly how he'd imagined heaven to be. He sat up, rubbing his temples. ItF felt like he'd been hit by a truck...no, wait, a convertable. A red one, actually. Very hard bumper, too.
He heard a voice and stopped in mid-laugh--Maria. He knew that voice anywhere. He snapped his head over to her, caught at what she was wearing. She looked like...well, an angel. Beautiful. There was a halo, sure, but no wings...must be reserved for the real angels. He instantly ran over to her side, holding her hand tightly. Her skin was just as soft as it had been before... "Are you...aw, geez, of course you're not alright. We're dead." He chuckled again, looking at the field of white around them. It looked soft and whispy, like cotton...or a cloud. Clouds...hehehe... He eyed the 'ground,' which seemed as sturdy as any concrete. What the heck was all this? Heaven wasn't supposed to be empty. Weren't there, like, other people? Angels? God, or something? Weird...maybe they'd show up later.

The sound of a familiar voice made Maria whirl. It- it was Will! He looked... well, perfect. Luminous. Wearing something white, a luminous ring above his head.... Yet somehow, it was not ludicrous. Still, when Maria had given the afterlife a second thought, she had never considered that it would actually resemble the stereotypes of childhood Sunday School.
Still, her hands caught at his as though they were a lifeline. "You- you died too? It wasn't just me?" Her voice broke, just a bit, and she threw her arms around him, hugging him close. "I'm so torn- so relieved not to be alone, but so sad to know that you're not still alive...."

The Librarian

"Hey, it's alright..." He put his arms around her and held her close to him, grateful this felt as great as it did down on Earth. "I didn't have much to live for, anyway. Hey, look at the bright side; atleast it's not that 'till death do we part' deal." His joke was a little corny, but funny that it was actually a circumstance where it could be so. He stroked her hair, holding her close to him...
"Ya both went together, I see?" A voice attracted his attention, and he suddenly became aware of a gold, engraved pedastal beside them. The woman behind it, dressed meagerly and had a pair of disproportionately small feathery wings, spoke with a noteably southern accent. "Mm-hm...what a world, it's become down there. Atleast ya went together, right?" She leaned on the pedastal slightly, emphasizing her already noticeable breasts.

Maria felt a hysterical little laugh slip out, at that, as much a reaction to tension as anything else. She simply clung to Will, for a moment- until the Southern drawl disrupted her, that was.
She looked over to see a women who was, well, extremely well-endowed in the front, but not quite so much so in the back, given the tininess of her wings.... Wings? Was she Heaven's greeter, or some such thing? Oh, that was an incredibly irreverent thing to think, at such a moment. Maria felt that same hysterical giggle bubble up, again.
She reined it in and angled a look toward the woman. "Excuse, ma'am," she said, "but... where are we? And who are you?" It was a trifle blunt, but just realizing you were dead didn't exactly make one diplomatic.

The woman chuckled a bit. "Hun, take a look around. Then look at these beauties." She turned slightly and gave her wings a little flutter, but Will could have sworn she was reffering to her figure. It was a miracle she didn't fall over! Were Heaven implants made of cast-iron, or what? "If that don't cut it, take a gander at these." She reached over (pressing her breasts against the pedastal--he was amazed they didn't pop) and gave her halo a little tap. It rang like a tiny chime bell, wiggling slightly. "Go ahead and take a guess, hun. Yer probly right on the money. 'Nless yer one a them weirdos that make ther own crap up fer them cult-things, or whatever."
Will let out a quiet chuckle. "So, you're the greeter? For heaven?"
She nodded, standing back up (thank god) to examine her nails. "Dunno why. Not like you can sneak in here er nuthin."

"So this is the... gateway, as it were?" Maria asked. Funny, she'd thought it would be bigger, more noticeable. Like old paintings and what not. This was very... unassuming. Well, except for the incredibly voluptuous woman, that was.... "Pardon me for my ignorance, but... what happens now? I mean, no one was ever very specific in church. What do we do? Do we just... walk in and get handed a harp? Or are there tests or assigments or some such thing?" What was it like, really? Was it like life on earth, only forever, or was it more ethereal?

The Librarian
09-10-2009, 01:54 AM
Will nodded. "Yeah. They didn't exactly give us step-by-step instructions about how to do this."
She eyed her in something akin to surprise, then pity. "Aw, sheesh, what are they tellin' these people..." She looked up and started explaining. "Alrighty, then, ah...Heaven's...kinda...aw, geez, ya gunna make me explain the whole...! Hah...well, basically, Heaven's made up of...sections, I guess. Yah wanna live like normal? Okay, ya go to the part that...uh...looks like a normal city, I guess. Want adventure? Get to the...adventurous...thing. I dunno how it works! Ya just walk that way and it poofs ya to where ya want!" She pointed to their left, where a portion of the 'clouds' seemed to smooth into a glassy path. "If I was yous, I'd just start normal. Get yer heads together, then start movin' 'round the places. Simple 'nuff. Just get a feel fer it 'n it'll take you right 'long. Git it?"

"I... I think so," Maria said. "Let me just make sure I've got it right, here. So we walk to where you said, think about where we want to be, and just... poof there, as it were. What do we do when we get there? Are there houses there for us, or apartments? Do we create our own, or are they assigned? Are there limits to what we can do, if the former?" It was very free-form. "And do we have jobs and things, or do we just... sort of do whatever we want?"

The Librarian
09-10-2009, 02:09 AM
The woman scratched the spot between her wings, which stabbed her breasts out even further. Will was listening, but was also wondering how the hell her shirt hadn't ripped open just now. "Well, uh, everything's just sorta...laid out, I guess. No money up here, so you just waltz awn in and rent a room, er buy a house, er whatever. Then ya just, like...yeah, just do whatever ya want to. Pretty nice, if ya wanna just live happily, but we got ever'thin fer when ya get bored, er a special craving. Food, services, dancin', sex..." Will could have sworn she flicked a glance at him on that last one... "Ever'thin. It's great up here. But, guess that's why they call it 'Heaven', huh?"

"I... yes, that makes sense...." Maria took a deep breath. Her own dress didn't swell so impressively, she noticed. Would Will mind that? That she wasn't so... eye-catching, as the, well, receptionist. He hadn't before, but... well... she'd caught the glances. Understandable, but still.... Either way, she gave him a nervous smile. "Shall we go, then?" And would he want to share a house, maybe? Oh, that really would be too much to hope for.

The Librarian

"Uh, yeah." He returned the smile, nodding to the...eh-hem...busty angel. That was what she was, right? SHe had the wings to boot, but what about the other side? Weren't angels supposed to be...like, pristine? Was it even legal to be so...ugh! It was painful to consider. So, he was glad to return his attention to his real angel. "Alright...let's go."
"Try not to have too much fun, ya hear?" the receptionist called after them, getting a sly hint to her voice. "Jus' you 'member; there're plenty of unsatisfied angels, too. Enjoy!"
Will couldn't help but look back and roll his eyes at her...caught in her figure again, he couldn't help but wonder; what the hell was supporting those things? Stilts? Better be some quality wood, too...

(Those observations made me laugh, I must confess.)

Maria raised an eyebrow at the repeated glances between her companion and the prodigious bosom. "Impressive, aren't they?" she said. Her voice was nonchalant, but part of her was starting to feel inadequate again. Sure, she wasn't small-busted by any means- and was now realizing that well, whatever force had dressed her in this white dress hadn't seen fit to give her a bra underneath it- but well, against that, who could stand up? Still, she kept her arm around Will, really trying not to be jealous.

"Uh...It's kinda creepy. I was looking for a helium tank behind that desk of hers." He put his arm around her shoulder, eying her expression. She looked...disheartened. Jealous, maybe? Why? What the heck was there to be jealous of? Still, she was slightly hurt by his looking, no doubt, and gave her a gentle squeeze.

A splutter of a laugh escaped, despite herself. "I- I see what you mean. In the real world, the kind of bra required for that would have to be made of scaffolding...." That comment made Maria feel a bit better, now. Really, she supposed, who wouldn't look, when confronted with that? And if it was looks of disbelief.... Well, a far sight better than admiration, she supposed. Her arm squeezed his waist back, in response.

He smiled at her reaction, lightly rubbing her shoulder. He eyed the path ahead, which seemed to extend for miles upon miles...where were they going, anyhow? "Hey...Maria?" He had something he wanted to ask her now. It was a fleeting thought, maybe a bit outragous, but they were dead. They were in freaking heaven. The usual codes of conduct seemed pretty much forfeit by now. It was a whole new world....if there was anything out here but clouds.

Maria paused, at the mouth of the path. It extended onward for simply ages.... "Yes?" she asked, trying to ignore the sense of urgency she felt. Still, her teeth nibbled her lower lip as she glanced up at Will. What was it? Was he trying to get up the nerve to tell her that it was best they go their separate ways now, given their new surroundings?

The Librarian
09-10-2009, 11:12 PM
"Well..." He blushed a little now, taking in exactly what he was about to ask. "I was wondering...if you'd like to stay with me while we're here. Y'know...us. Together." She suddenly felt a hundred times warmer, and he had an urge to fling his arms around her and carry her around bridal-style. What was that all about?

Maria felt a blush creep up her own cheeks- but she was also filled with a sense of elation. He wasn't trying to move on, but rather, to stick together! A little sound not unlike a squeal emerged, and she turned a beaming smile up at him. "I would love that," she said, joy plain in every word. "Right now, I would love that more than anything."

The Librarian
09-11-2009, 06:24 PM
He had been worried she would want to move on, sort things out by herself, but she sounded...overjoyed. Maybe the feelings he felt for her were mutual after all. Then again, they had both agreed to have more than just your average relationship...maybe they'd be together for more than the rest of their lives. Maybe they'd just be together...forever? The word seemed somehow more fitting. He hugged her tightly, holding her as close as he could. He was nothing short of elated, finding no words to express his gratitude and joy...

Maria returned the hug, giddy giggles bubbling in her throat at the same time. She had always felt a time like this would be one of infinite sorrow. But... she wasn't alone. She had someone special with her, someone who could have been her one and only special, she felt, given time. Her head burrowed his neck, just savoring being together. "So- shall we go?" she said, the giddiness still showing in her voice.

He wanted to hold onto her, just a little longer, but there were matters to deal with. First of which was to find out where to live. He kissed her forehead, taking her hand. "Let's shall." With that, he stepped onto the path...

Maria didn't say another word. She simply smiled at him, laced her fingers through his, and walked forward. Together, hand in hand, into a foreign place, a future still to be determined. It was strange, really. The path looked so long, but together, they seemed to traverse it within moments. Around them were whispers of music, almost like chanting, soft breaths at the edge of hearing. Soft lights around, swirling of white.... Up ahead, there was the sihouette of a doorway. Almost there....

The Librarian
09-11-2009, 09:17 PM
It seemed a bit like a dream. Walking up to the gates of heaven with the one he loved, who seemed more to him like an angel than any of the real ones, traveling down a field of silver glass on a field of clouds. This was trippy. No other word to decribe it; trippy.
Up ahead, a gate of engraved and highly decorated gold slowly came into view, becoming more and more defined as they aproached. As if sensing their presence, the massive gate openned a crack, spilling light into the air, swirling with odd and facinating shapes...
And they were gone.

Guendolen_Sama
09-11-2009, 09:28 PM
That's what it was. Dreamlike. The shining gate, like something out of a medieval painting. The lights, the sensation of floating and swirling.... For a moment, Maria wondered if she was going to wake up on the couch in her old apartment, having never actually made it out in the first place.
But instead, she found herself... on a street. It looked so ordinary, it did. A street, with buildings, in the evening.... There was a slight sweetness in the air, though, that belied city living, and a certain cleanliness seldom seen in true urban areas. "I wonder where we are?" she whispered.

The Librarian
09-11-2009, 09:39 PM
It was like a scene out of reality. People, tall buildings, streets, sidewalks...just the regular things. At first he thought he was home, but then saw what the people around them were wearing--the same pure white clothing and dresses like they were both in, bar minor differences, like ribbons or vests or even metal bearings the typical "goth punk" could be seen wearing. And some of them had wings. Small, feathery wings, pale skin, happy expressions...angels, no doubt. Beat the one they'd seen earlier, that was for certain. "Looks like...a city." A city in heaven? Not exactly what he was expecting. It all looked so natural, like it was all built back on Earth. Stores, restraunts, food stands, shops...it all seemed so...homely. Comfortable. Pleasant. Like heaven should.

"I'm glad." Maria snugged his waist, a bit. "I have to admit I'd feel really self-conscious sitting on a cloud all day long, with only a harp for company.... This is the way it ought to be, I've always felt. Life... but in another place. We go on as we were before, barring small differences. Either way, let's go explore!"

"Alright, then." He started walking around with her, just sticking to the sidewalk, eying the shops and stores they passed. Theer was everything; a mall, a grocery store, a barber shop, a music store, a soda shop, an italian restraunt, even a particularly packed strip club with some...eh...people in some pretty suggestive stances. Peculiar...

Guendolen_Sama

(Don't worry about it!)

Maria stopped short, at that last one. She just... looked, a puzzled expression on her face. "Is that what I think it is?" she said, pointing. "I mean, yeah, it does seem to be all about making people happy, here, and that makes people happy, but... when you think of Heaven, you usually don't think of strippers!" Unless you were a certain kind of male, maybe. Still, you'd think it wasn't... holy enough. Then again, maybe this was better. Maria wasn't so sure she was good at holy.

The Librarian

Will examined the scene inside, then laughed. "Hahaha! I guess you're in the clear once you make it up here!" It seemed logical; be good on Earth, and you get to do what you want as a reward when you die. And there were certainly people he knew that would like nothing more than spend a full day in a bar full of partly-dressed women. He, however, wasn't one of them. Atleast...not anymore.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 02:57 AM
Those words made a small, spluttering laugh escape. "I guess so! And those guys watching sure look like they're in Heaven...." The reward of whatever made you happy was apparently more encompassing than one would originally anticipate. "Don't worry, I don't feel inclined to get a job there," Maria said, snugging his waist again. She'd never been that sort of girl, and didn't plan to be now.

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:15 AM
"That's good." She felt warmer somehow as they walked, and he ran his fingers through her hair as they passed by more buildings. The sights were nice, sure...but most of his attention was on her. Every so often, though, he'd pass by someone that would catch his eye...some of the women...what the hell? Their breasts...like bowling balls! Was that what the implants were made of here? Geezus! "Must be, uh, some kind of trend, or...something..." he muttered, eying a woman they passed who was barely contained in her shirt.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 03:18 AM
Maria's eyes just about popped out of her head at some of those, too. "I- I guess these were women who- who in real life- perhaps wanted to be more... well-endowed?..." she ventured. "If they do everything to make people happy, here, then maybe they all got what they wanted while they were alive, and couldn't have...." That was a certain degree of logic; the best Maria could think of, anyway. She glanced down at herself. "I do hope it doesn't happen automatically. Mine are rather enough as they are...." Maria wasn't small-busted by any means, after all. But she was in proportion, and wanted to stay that way!

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:31 AM
"Heh...that's one way of putting it..." He couldn't help but glance down at her figure now, reminding himself it was part of their conversation. "Hey, don't worry about it. You're perfect in my book." He gave her a reassuring squeeze, leaning over and pecking her cheek. "Probably a good time to find the housing district, though..." The thought of him and her living together...it made his heart sputter with anticipation.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 03:33 AM
Maria turned her head to give him a responding peck before his head got out of range. "You do know how to make a girl feel good," she said with a smile. "But now. Like you said, housing. So, do we want a full house, or just an apartment, or what?"

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:42 AM
He thought a moment. "Well, I dunno. Apartments already have all the stuff. Wanna just grab one of those?" Then again, they would seem more official with a house...but an apartment was already prepared with furniture and what-not. Plus, they could meet some of the folk in the complex. He was kind of eager to meet some of the angels around here. They were angels! How many people got to see those?

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 03:49 AM
"Since we're just starting out, we'll do the apartment. If we decide we want a house later, when we know better how everything works around here, we can always upgrade." If couples in real life managed it, why couldn't they here, a place designed to give people what they wanted in order to be at their happiest? Just the thought of getting a place at all was, well, exciting. Maria briefly wondered if she could get a camera....

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 04:00 AM
He smiled at the thought of movign in together...again. It just seemed so dream-like! He was beginning to worry he'd wake up soon. "Plus...we've still got to have that romantic evening together."

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 04:03 AM
"That's right!" Maria tapped her head against his shoulder. "Just think- we can have all the romantic evenings we want, once we get a place. And mornings, and afternoons, and any other time of the day as well, if we want!" It just somehow seemed like a marvelous thing, now, to be able to be together, to get to know each other in this way. Was it bad of her to be glad she had not died alone?... If she had, she would be very sad and lonesome just now, that much was certain.

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 04:13 AM
"That sounds awesome. I could use a good cuddling right about now, too." Their current embrace was nice, but nothing beat sitting down together and just holding each other, not a care in the world...he looked around for waht looked like an apartment complex of some kind.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 04:15 AM
That turn of phrase made Maria laugh, but in delight. "I couldn't have put it better myself. So, should we just wander until we hit houses, or shall we ask one of the residents for assistance?" Surely there were people running these shops and what not, as well as many simply on the street. Presumably some of them might know where there may be an apartment to let, and how one went about securing it. What if a down payment was needed? Neither of them had... any of whatever kind of currency was used, here!

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 04:25 AM
"Yeah, shoudl probably ask. THe lady said they don't use money, though, so that won't be a problem." It made sense a utopia like heaven wouldn't have money, once he got to thinking about it. Wasn't money the root of all evil? The very basis of greed. It was only logical that it wouldn't have a place here. Most of this stuff had a bit of logic to it...anyone could figure it out, given time to think about it.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 04:31 AM
"Then let's ask." Maria led the way into the nearest building. It proved to be an old-fashioned drugstore, of the sort you saw in the 19650's, with a lunch counter and soda fountain. A portly older fellow in a red and white striped apron was behind that counter, polishing a large glass mug. "Can I help you kids?" he said, as they came in.
"Oh, yes, sir," Maria said. "I... you see, we... we're... new here." She blushed a bit.
"New, hm?" He glanced over them a bit. "Well, welcome, then. Make yourselves at home. But what can I do for you?"
"Well... we're looking to find an apartment to live in, but we're not sure where the apartments are...."
"Oh, that's easy. Just go down three blocks to the left, make a right, then go two more blocks. Lots of buildings. I say look for the Victorian Brownstone, the one with the pear trees in front. Can't miss it. Tell the landlady Phil sent you. She's a friend of mine; she'll set you up. Real nice lady, she is."
"Oh, thank you so much! That's too kind of you, it really is."
"Don't mention it. But before you run along, can I get you anything? Soda? Shake? Banana split?"
Maria glanced up at Will. "Want anything?" she asked.

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 01:27 PM

(Hey, sometimes they are.)

"Well, I wouldn't mind something to drink...." The gentleman did offer, after all. "Might I have a strawberry Italian soda, please?"
"You can have whatever tickles your fancy, miss." The soda jerk (for that was what such individuals as him were officially titled, regardless of their actual personalities) went to his fountain and set to work.

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:09 PM
(Hehe, jerk. :D)

Will sat down on one of the stools, careful not to slip off. That would be embarrassing. They were those old-fashioned ones you saw in the old soda fountains back on earth, red velvet and on a pole of metal, squeeky as well. "Nice place you have here," he commented, looking around. It then occured to him the man had wings as well. Angels? Running soda fountains? Maybe they ran everything around here? Made sense, since they were here in the first place.

(Yup, they were officially known as soda jerks!)

In minutes, Maria had her soda. "Thank you so much," she said with a smile, taking a sip. "Oh, that's delicious...." She turned to Will. "Would you like a taste?" She slid the cup in his direction, smiling.

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:30 PM
He shrugged, taking a sip. Sure enough, it was good. This guy knew his stuff. "Might want to hang onto that. I might drink it all while you're not looking." He grinned, eying the cup. Maybe just one more sip wouldn't hurt...he restrained himself, letting her have it to herself.

Guendolen_Sama
09-12-2009, 03:32 PM
"In that case, I'd just have to get another one." At that moment, the soda jerk smiled and slid a second straw over. "Get a lot of couples in here," was all he said.

(Sorry this is short, but I gotta run. See you later!)

The Librarian
09-12-2009, 03:42 PM
(Okay, bye bye!)

"Couples?" He blushed a bit, remembering that they were indeed a couple. "Heh...wonder why." He slipped his arm around Maria's waist, lightly rubbing her belly. She was soft everywhere he could think of...so loveable! He could hardly stand it, taking a sip to distract himself, which didn't work. He could possibly see why couples would come down here together...

Maria wasn't used to men patting her on the stomach! It tickled, and made her laugh- and subsequently, snort some soda out through her nose. "Oh, I'm sorry about that," she said with laughter still in her voice, grabbing for a napkin.
"Oh, a lotta them are couples what have been here for a while," the soda jerk explained. Even as he did so, the bell over the door jingled, and another pair came in. They looked to be in their late teens, girl with a blond ponytail and young man whose short, tousled brown hair gave him a bit of a "bad boy" aura. They both wore white, yes, but from there the resemblance ended. The girl wore a cardigan over a blouse with a Peter Pan collar and a bouffant skirt that, yes, had a poodle on it, and the young man's pants were in fact jeans, and his jacket was white leather. Either they died in the 1950's, or they liked the look.... Either way, both settled down a few stools away and ordered chocolate malts.

The Librarian

Will wiped Maria's nose with a napkin, arching an eyebrow at the newcomers. They were...different. Rather, actually, and he couldn't help but snort a laugh at the sight of a peace-sign near the woman's ankle. Hippies! In heaven! Hahahaha!! This just gets better and better all the time! He looked them both over now, tickled by how pathetic this was. He was dead, drinking soda made by angels, and was now sitting 10 feet away from a pair of genuine hippies. This stuff is too stupid to make up! Hahahaha!!

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 03:58 AM
(Actually, they would be a bobby soxer and a greaser.... Hippies weren't until the sixties.)

Maria looked back and forth between Will and the newly arrived pair and back again. "Well," she said quietly. "Either someone really likes period costume, or we have some vintage residents not so very far away." It had been unexpected, that much was certain. Still, Maria wondered what their stories were. They were younger even than Will and herself; barely out of high school, if even that. The thought bore a definite note of tragedy, that....

The Librarian
09-13-2009, 04:12 AM
(Yom, yom...same difference!)
"Heh, yeah," he said, not realizing they could hear. "Must really like those old movies, or something." He wasn't saying things to be insulting; he just liked a good laugh, and it got better the more peolpe smiled at his jokes. It just always seemed like that was his purpose in life--to find funny where no one else could.

(I'm thinking this sparks a mini-fight...then they get to see the angelic guardians. I gotsa plan, I duz! :D)

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 04:15 AM
(Actually, they're very different. Hippies are tie dye and long hair, protests and peace songs. Whereas the fifties people are more "malt shop and sock hop" sorts. But I do like the idea of seeing the guardians, yes indeed. :))

"Sh! They might hear you!" Maria whispered. Even as she did so, she saw the young couple look over in their direction. And yes, the boy was looking decidedly disgruntled, under his mop of brown hair. She half-expected him to pop some bubble gum and saunter over to challenge them to a rumble!

The Librarian
09-13-2009, 04:20 AM
(Yeah, well...in my world I'm right!! :p)

He gave a sheepish laugh to the couple, sliding off the stool. "Ah, sorry...I'm just joshing. Glad to meet ya, by the way." His pleasant smile faded slightly when he noticed the guy's expression; well, as far as he could tell from under the sunglasses, he looked genuinly pissed off. Maybe he didn't like jokes...

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 04:23 AM
(I guess so.... I'm just a stickler for historical accuracy, that's all. As you may have guessed elsewhere.)

Maria just sat quietly, fiddling with her cup. The young man slid off the stool, swiped a hand through his unruly hair. The girl alongside him whispered, "Oh, be careful, Johnny!"
"Just you relax, Peggy Sue." The voice was one right out of the "Grease" soundtrack. This guy could've played Danny without batting an eye. He sauntered over to Will, the very image of a youth with a chip on his shoulder, the rebel who hasn't stated his cause, and said, "You got a problem with me and my girl, bub?"

The Librarian
09-13-2009, 11:02 PM
Johnny? Peggy-Sue? Hahahaha!! How classic! He smiled, still holding back a laugh. "Eheh, no. Just, uh, trying to make jokes. It's all in good fun, Mac." Although, judging by his expression and expression, this guy wasn't much of a joker.

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 11:14 PM
"Well, yer jokes ain't too funny, bub." He gave Will's shoulder a little shove.
"Johnny!" the girl, presumably Peggy Sue, hissed. "Please!"
"I got this in hand, hon," he said back to her, with an insouciant flip of his tousled hair. "Just you leave this goon to me."
"Well, really!" Maria exclaimed. "Will's not a goon!"
"Oh, you got a prob with me too, eh, doll?" He gave Maria a glance that was positively dismissive.

The Librarian

He stumbled only slightly, trying to come up wiht what to say. He couldn't try anything humorous, since that got him here in the first place...the thug's comment at Maria snapped him from his thoughts, promptly stepping between him and her. How dare he! "Hey. You're mad at me. Leave her alone."

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 11:28 PM
"Oh yeah? What you gonna do, stop me?" This time, he gave Maria's shoulder a little shove. Not much more than a nudge, really; all she did was shift back a bit, for a second.
Still, she said, "Hey! If you're bored, I'm sorry, but this is really enough!" He seemed to be actively trying to play the "street punk" role.

The Librarian
09-13-2009, 11:36 PM
"Stop it!" He promptly shoved the boy's arm back, knockign him away. His temper flared. No way his was treating Maria like one of his little nothing friends. No way. Still, he kept his cool. He didn't want to be caught in a fight in his first six minutes in heaven. "Just leave her alone. Let's just be civil about this..."

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 11:40 PM
"Too late for hat, bub!" Johnny shoved Will back, harder this time.
"That's enough, you two," the soda jerk interjected. "I'll have no fighting on my premises.
Johnny smirked. "You heard the dude," he said. "Let's take this rumble outside."
"Johnny!" Peggy Sue said, looking outright angry by now. "You promised me no more rumbles, period!"
"Sorry, hon, gotta make an exception now." And the fellow looked like he'd like nothing better.
Maria threw up her hands. "This is ridiculous!" she said. "Would you just put your testoserone away for a bloody minute?"
The boy blinked. "Put my what away?"
"Your testosterone. There's no need to fight!"
He grinned. "Doll, I really beg to differ on that one."

The Librarian
09-13-2009, 11:48 PM
"No fights. I'm staying here." To underline the fact that he had no intention of "rumbling," he leaned on the counter, eying the menu overhead. "Hm...should I get the caramel late', or that...that italian thing...hm, that italian thing was pretty good, so maybe..."

Guendolen_Sama
09-13-2009, 11:57 PM
"Hey, bub." Johnny shook Will's shoulder vigorously. "You giving me the cold shoulder, bub?"
"Hey, we said not to pick a fight!" Maria turned to face the menu with Will, trying the technique of ignoring the perpetrator.
"Well, maybe I don't want to be ignored."
Peggy Sue slid off her stool, tugging on his hand. "Johnny, come on," she said. "You promised you wouldn't do this anymore. And you were doing so good, too. Pleeeeease?" She bobbed up and down on her toes, the very image of a cute, sweet little bobby soxer.
Johnny's expression softened when he looked at her, but he didn't nudge. "Sometimes a fella's gotta do what he's gotta do, angel," he said to her.
Peggy Sue rolled her eyes. "Well, you don't 'gotta' do this!"
"This dude laughed at me- both of us! I don't let dudes laugh at my girl! C'mon, let's get this party started." He tugged Will's shoulder more forcefully. And Maria thought she saw the soda jerk reaching for what looked like an old-fashioned telephone...

He was yanked a bit, but he stuck with his 'ignore the perp' strategy, eying the menu. The second yank was more powerful, and nearly knocked him from his seat, but he simply sat upright again and continued to stare at the menu. "Man, some of these actually look pretty good..." He turned to Maria, like the other boy wasn't even there. "They expect us to pick one? THat's cruel and unusual punishment, if I've ever seen it."

Guendolen_Sama

"I imagine you could order as many as you want, under the circumstances," Maria responded, trying to ignore him. "Right, Peggy-Sue?" she added, in a desperate effort to try to bring things under control- bring in the girlfriend of the troublemaker. Peggy-Sue nodded with equally desperate enthusiasm.
Johnny, however, was not to be dissuaded. "Hey, you ain't gonna ignore me, bub!" Then he drew back his arm and took a swing.

"Yeah, but you still have to choose your fav--" He was in midsentence when a fist collided with his jaw. He jerked over a bit, nearly colliding with Maria. Pain ripped through his mouth, and his teeth rattled. He looked back at the boy. He hadn't anticipated him fighting inside, despite the owner's protests. The bastard hit him! Right out of the blue! "What the hell, man?! I-I'm not fighting you!" He felt bad for Petty-Sue, who had to watch her boyfriend brake his promiss, after promptly brushing her off...he was half a mind to deck the kid for that alone, but he wasn't about to start fighting. Not now, after everything that had happened...

"That's what you get for ignoring me, bub! I-"
"Johnny! That is enough!" Peggy Sue stepped directly between the two, elbows akimbo. "Johnny, you promised me after the last time! I know you've got a temper, but you were doing so well, it's been so long... please, Johnny, don't backslide...." A tear slid down her pale cheek.
And again, Johnny's expression softened. "I... I'm sorry, hon," he said quietly. "I- I just got so mad, I couldn't think- I'm sorry...."
"Don't say it to me," Peggy-Sue replied. "Tell him."
Johnny gulped. "Er... sorry, man," he said, looking sheepish. "It just kinda... came over me.... Peggy's been a big help, but sometimes it's a problem...."
"Now come on and sit down, before Mr. Whipple here calls the security," Peggy said, tugging her boyfriend's arm.
"If he hasn't already," Maria muttered to Will. She'd seen him go for that old phone, after all.

"Yeah, well..." He rubbed his jaw. "Just don't do that to the wrong person..."
As he spoke, the door opened softly as a figure, hooded in a grey cloak, silently entered. It looked male...no, maybe female. It was hard to tell. He couldn't see it's eyes, but it looked...eerie. Too bulkish to be a regular human, and now wings, so taht crossed out an angel...was this the security of heaven? It looked anything but fearsome, just...spooky. It stood there in the room, letting the door slide shut behing it. No skin was visible, bar its mouth, which was completely neutral. It just stood there, slowly turning its head to examine the scene. Will couldn't help but wonder what was running through its head.

Maria looked around to see what everyone was suddenly staring at. She paled, gulping. "Er... what is that?..." she asked, eyes getting wider.
"That... that's the security," Peggy-Sue replied, looking much the same way Maria felt. The thing wasn't exactly scary, but it was, however, extremely spooky. Only Mr. Whipple seemed to be taking it anywhere near in stride.

Its head turned slowly, to examine the source of the noise, then turned back, just as slowly, to examine the others in the room. All of its movements seemed so careful and thought out...not sluggish, per se, but more like slow motion. Although it did seemed coiled and ready to pounce.
Eventually, after what seemed like an eternity, the figure simply turned in place and exited through the doorway. Apart from the noise of the door closing, the figure hadn't made a sound.
Will exhaled, realizing he had been holding his breath. "What the hell was that?" it seemed to be some kind of spector or ghost, although it seemed solid to him. And it had been able to open the door, too...was the air a bit colder than it had been a minute ago?

"Er... the security?" Peggy-Sue ventured, her face as pale as her clothes. Her boyfriend didn't say anything. He looked rather ghastly, truth be told.
Maria shuddered. "Good heavens, if you'll pardon the turn of phrase," she said, looking to where the door now stood innocuously closed. "No wonder this place is so peaceful, if that's what the enforcers are like!"

"Eck...regular creepers, those guys..." He looked at where the person had been standing..."Hey, the floor's frosty!" Sure enough, the floor mat was turned a crisp white, specifically in the shape of a pair of feet. It had frozen the mat by standing on it? SO the the air was colder...he could just barely see his breath! "My god, those things look like they could just about drag you to Hell..." Then again, maybe they could? Maybe that's what they had in place of prison...the idea was disturbing. Break the rules in paradise and go to the perfect opposite. How very sobering...

Maria shuddered. "Maybe they do." They were certainly scary enough. And she'd always privately felt that Hell would be far more miserable if it were cold, than if it were hot....
"No one knows for sure what they do," Peggy-Sue whispered, in a tiny little scared voice. "I don't know anyone who was taken away by them, 'cause usually they just have to pop up and everything, you know, calms down. But you hear stories...." She gulped, as tiny a sound as her voice. "About how, you know, people will disappear if they break enough rules enough times...." This was probably why she worked so hard to curb Johnny's fighting instinct- she didn't want to lose her boyfriend just because he was rash. A sad thing, really, being essentially in a permanent state of adolescence due to dying young.... Maria wondered what this pair's story was.

He could certainly see why they'd calm everything down when they showed up...also why they'd have stories circling around about them. They were flat-out creepy, not to mention mysterious...it was evident that people would want to follow the rules, or else evoke their wrath...whatever that could be. Probably nothing fun. How...ominous.
He eyed Johnny, who looked like he'd seen a ghost, maybe because he had. Maybe he was contemplating how close he'd come to death...no, worse than death, because dying meant the end of the torment. Hell was...Hell. He patted him on the shoulder, trying to lift the ackward, ominous atmosphere. "Well, we're good now, so we don't have to worry about them. Right?" He smiled warmly, hopong to defrost the room.

That jolted the greaser out of his guard-induced reverie. "Wha?- Oh, yeah. We're cool, man. Sorry about that." Smiling a bit sheepishly, he offered a hand to shake. "You guys ever want to take a spin in the Deuce Coup with me and Peggy here, you just say the word."
Peggy Sue giggled. "That's an honor," she whispered to Maria. "Johnny's very particular about who rides in his car."
"We'll keep it in mind, then." The situation seemed well defused, at least. She was grateful for that. Now they could all go back to their beverages and snacks in peace.

"Glad to hear it, dude." He shook his hand spiritedly, like he was an old friend. "Name's Will. This here," he put his arm around the girl beside him, "is Maria. She's a bit weird, but nice when you get to know her." He smirked a little as he teased her.

Maria gave Will a good-natured poke in the ribs with her elbow. "You know what they say," she said with a bit of a grin, even as she angled a glance up at Will. "It takes one to know one.... In other words, I'd say he's even weirder then me." Her words were just as teasing and playful as his own.

He gripped his heart, as if a jolt of electricity had raced there from her comment, still smiling. He also noted with startled facination that he couldn't feel his heart beat. Well, he was dead...so he didn't really need a heart beat, or blood flow. If so, did that apply to breathing and eating, too? Curious...he'd have to investigate this later. "So, where you two from? I'm thinking you've been here a few years."

Maria just laughed at Will's antics. Her new boyfriend seemed to be quite the showman, when he wanted to be.
At his question, Peggy Sue blushed just a bit. "Well," she said, "we... um... died in 1956.... So yes, you- you could say we've been here a while...." She murmured, one white-on-white saddle shoe trailing the toe along the tiled floor of the drugstore.

Will's eyes widened. "Really? 1956?" He looked them both over, searching for evidence of their age. There wasn't any. Tehy both looked like genuine teenagers. "53 years... I never would have guessed. You guys don't look a day over 17." Which was true; not a wrinkle, not a hair, nor a marking to support their actual age could be found anywhere. Except, maybe, how they were dressed... "What did you in, if you don't mind me asking?"

"That's because you don't age when you get here," Peggy-Sue explained. "Not unless you want to or you're a little child, anyway. Little ones grow up to become adults. Unless they get sent back to earth, anyway. Some disappear, especially the little babies and things. Maybe they're reborn?..." she ventured.
Johnny cleared his throat. "Either way- what got us- car wreck." He cleared it again. "Rainy night- trying to get Peggy home before curfew, her folks didn't like us seeing each other and might've used it to stop it, the brakes gave out and 'cause of the rain we couldn't stop...." He drifted off, looking, well, ashamed. Plainly feeling it was plain it was his fault.
"We don't remember anything after that, until we woke up here," Peggy finished quietly, taking her boyfriend's hand. "We... we were seniors," she added, fidgeting again. "Though... we did get to do a kind of graduation ceremony, here," she added. "Just to... give us a finish, for that, you know?" Even if they were, in fact, eternally seventeen, now.

"I see..." He leaned back, laying slightly into Maria. "Ah, car troubles...guess we know all about that, ay, darlin'?" His thoughts went back to his "final moments"...he hadn't even seen that car coming. If he hadn't had an afterlife, he would never have known what hit him. Them, he reminded himself, arm looping solemnly around Maria's waist. They were both in this together...and would likely stay that way, too. He certainly wouldn't leave her, and he didn't think she'd leave him, either...maybe they'd be together for eternity? Odd, the idea, but...

"Sure do." Maria leaned against Will, still marveling about how neatly they fit together.
"You get a car wreck, too?" Peggy-Sue asked.
"Close enough," Maria said. "A drunk driver hit both of us, when we were walking down the street at night." She burrowed closer against Will. "We'd just met...."
"Oh... that's so sad...." Peggy actually sniffled, a bit. Johnny put an arm around her waist, giving her a squeeze.
"It is, but it isn't," Maria replied. "Yes, we would rather have gone into things, you know, alive. But strange as it is, we're still together, and I don't think that's changing any time soon." Maria certainly didn't plan to, anyway. Hopefully Will wouldn't, either.

"Ah, cars..." He unconsciously clenched his fist, thoughts going to the driver of the car that had killed them. He knew that guy. Jack Paulis; they'd met in high school. He hadn't changed a bit, judging by his drunken state every time they met. "That guy...he better hope he lived, because if I get my hands on him, he won't be sure what afterlife he ended up in..." He'd kick his ass so hard, he'd come back to life twice, then die from the trauma, just to to Will's wrath.

Maria hugged Will around the middle. "We... we'll cross that bridge if it ever comes up," she said, trying not to let nervousness show. He was so... angry. Yes, she had been too, but not quite to that level. She didn't think he would turn it on her or anything like that. Rather, she was afraid of what the scary enforcers might do to him, were he to be inspired to mete out the desired revenge.

He put his arms around her. He was brewing, despite the comfort; angrier than he'd been since he could remember. He'd always been mad when Jack got drunk. He'd told him time after time he'd get into trouble, which he had time and time again, but this? This was something else. He'd killed someone, specifically him, plus the girl he loved. He'd kill him...but the fact that he'd get his hands on him would mean he was already dead. Then I'll just give him one more reason to wish he was alive...he's really done it this time. "Yep, sure will!" He smiled, putting on a mask of carefree spirit. "Bridge is better than swimming, I guess...heheh..." I'll rip his rib cage out and bash him over the head with it, right before I reorganize his intestines...

"Er... yes, I suppose so...." Maria hugged him more tightly, head burrowing against his neck. He... sounded calmer. That meant he was, right? Still, she thought she felt some tension.... Well, maybe it was just stiff muscles. Maybe she'd offer him a shoulder rub sometime soon. Take his mind off things.... They were supposed to be happy here. It ached to think of him dwelling on the past.... Even if it was the past that had brought them here in the first place.

"Heh..." He absently eyed the clock. "Well...it's been fun and a bit weird, you two, but we kinda have to get going. We still have to get our apartment." That's right, they still had to find the apartments. The beginning of their future together...in the most ironic of times; after death. "Keep that car looking spiffy, though. May have to take up that offer some time," he said with a grin. I can run Jack off a bridge with it, too...

"You got it." Johnny flipped Will a lazy salute.
"See you around!" Peggy gave the pair of them an impromptu hug, then the two went back to their chocolate malts.
Maria had already finished her Italian soda, and went to the counter to settle up with the operator. Only to find that, well, Heaven didn't have much of a concept of money.... "Well," she said, "that was a pleasant surprise."
"Remember my advice!" Mr. Whipple called after them as they left. "Go to the Victorian brownstone building, the one with the pear trees, and tell the landlady Phil Whipple sent you!"
"Don't worry, sir, we will!" Maria smiled. So helpful....

"Alright, can do. See ya." He headed out the door, still bubbling with pent-up rage. Why was he so mad? He'd been really steamed before, sure, but he wasn't the type to get so angry that he'd lose control. At this point, however, that became a real possibility...no way he was going to lose it in front of Maria. No way. And he wouldn't worry her with saying so, either...no, he'd keep it bottled up. No harm in that, right? He eyed the streets, looking for the signs to indicate where they were.

"Um... he said to go that way, a couple blocks down...." Maria pointed. She kept an arm firmly about Will's waist, holding him close. "Are you okay?" she whispered. "What's wrong? Whatever it is, you can tell me. You know that, right?" If he hadn't before, he certainly did now. Maria was feeling a bit worried, he seemed so tense, like he was really stewing over something....

He sighed, arm going around her shoulder. "I know. Just...irritated." To say so was an understatement, but he had already decided not to worry her with him being angry. He looked at where she had pointed. "THat way...alright, so we'll go that way." He started walking, hoping that would end the conversation. I can always smash his head against the sidewalk...what happens when his head splits open like a melon? He'll still live. I wonder waht it'll be like...

"Um... yes, that way." By now Maria had both arms around Will's waist, not caring about how awkward it made walking for her. She was still worried. "You might feel better if you vent to me?" she suggested. "It's just... I don't want to push, but... if there's anything you need to get off your chest.... Well, I am here, and not going anywhere...." Her voice was soft, and somehow she sounded very young and rather uncertain. He wasn't mad at her, was he? Maria immediately started running down her actions recently, trying to figure out of she had done or said something that would have annoyed him.

She sounded so much like an uncertain child, and her concern for him...it more than deserved the kiss on the cheek he gave her. "It's sweet that you care...but I'm alright. Nothing to worry about." A flat-out lie, and he knew it. Why was he lying now? And to her, of all people? He could only hurt her by doing that...he shoved down his newfound guilt with his anger. No way that was coming out. "I;m fine. Alright?"

"Um... all right, then...." Maria drew him down to give him a responding peck. She wasn't entirely convinced, but she also wasn't going to push the issue right now. That would only cause problems. Still, she was going to be worrying about this, in the back of her mind.... "But- if you do have a problem- you can tell me about it. Please just remember that." In the past, she'd been the one who had put up the dividing barrier, wouldn't let her partners get too close due to fear and distrust. Now, the one she wanted to trust seemed to be building up distance. Ironic.... And now she regretted that. Wished she could tell those past boyfriends that she was sorry....

(Sounds like a plan.)

"Good." Maria huggled his waist a bit, then walked the rest of the way on companionable silence. As they moved, the buildings changed. Fewer businesses, more houses- and apartment buildings. Many of the latter looked like they could have been the former at some point. Clearly, this was a stylistic motif, more than anything. Or then again, maybe not. Perhaps architecture here was adapted for the times, too.
"Oh, I think this is it." Sure enough, a three-story brownstone building, Victorian in style, with a row of pear trees all along in front. "Shall we go in?" Presumably that was where the landlady would be found.

The Librarian
09-19-2009, 12:14 AM
Will examined the building, mentally comparing it to the description they'd received. Not exactly a 5-star resort, but it certainly looked nice. "Nice place. Alright, let's pop in." The doors, upon closer observation, were embedded with an elegant system of complex and facinating metal engravings and designs, made of a glassy, golden metal. It was remarkable, to say the least. It didn't look at all like the sort of designs you'd see on Earth. To him, they summoned up the word "Elven" in his head. He wasn't sure why; they just sort of radiated an "Elven" sort of grace, like from the Lord of the Rings or something. Curious...heaven also had a remarkable style of architecture--nearly identical to the ones back home from a moderate distance, covered in amazing and fantastic metal weave-like patterns of a golden metal.
