Drifter walked aimlessly around the village, as if no one noticed he was alive. "Sometimes I wish I was as invisible as people make me feel," thought Drifter. None of the humans wanted to talk to the boy; they thought he was odd. He made them feel awkward. "Apati," Drifter spoke to his blue butterfly, knowing that Apati was not able to respond.. "Why don't people love me? Why do they fear me? Because I'm a reaper?" Drifter continued to walk around the village.

"Perhaps." A dark voice said from behind Drifter, as Jerry came up from behind him. It was clear that people shunned him too, because of three reasons; the ring around his eyes, his pale skin, and because he looked creepy. "Maybe it's because of that.. Maybe it's not.." He continued on, not even bothering to check if Drifter was listening or not.

Drifter turned around silently and swiftly."Who are you and why are you following me?" Apati was sitting atop Drifter's left shoulder, Hypni taking her place floating near the reaper. Hypni was a rugged creature; on her wings, nicks and tears littered their edges, making her seem more like a colorful moth than a butterfly. This particular insect was used strictly to defend Drifter from harm, so it was understandable that she would appear this way. Apati stood out more than ever with his crimson wings stained in dried, haphazard splotches of enemy blood. His flight pattern had to also be adjusted to keep him balanced in the air, as his right antennae had apparently been ripped out.

Jerry looked over to Drifter, looking into his eyes. "I'm Jerry." He said simply, looking at Drifter with his hands in his pocket. "I'm following you because you just complained about that everybody feared you, so I thought I would try to get to know you and give it a try, since I'm quite different myself." He said and shrugged his shoulders again. "Nice butterflies by the way." He said and looked at Hypni and Apati with calm eyes, before he looked back to the ground again carelessly. It was obvious that he wasn't afraid of Drifter, he didn't even seem to be nervous about it.

Drifter kept a straight face. "I'm following you because you just complained about that everybody feared you, so I thought I would try to get to know you and give it a try, since I'm quite different myself," said Jerry. He wanted to get to know Drifter. For a moment, he was speechless. Then he spoke. "Thanks. At last, someone not afraid of getting to know me. I thought everyone was afraid to know me, because I look scary... I guess. They don't actually know I reap people. What ever happened to that old qoute, 'don't fear the reaper'?"

"You don't look scary to me.. To me you just look like a normal boy, who accidently tripped down in a mud bath or something." He said, looking over to him and giving him a small smile. "I'm not scared for you since you are a reaper. I have already met death himself, so there's no problem in that.." He said and sighed lightly, glad for that it was no sun that day. "What do you reapers do anyway?" He said and tilted his head a little.

Drifter sighed. He'd told people about this at least a million times. "We reapers... or shall I say Thantos, Apati, Hypni, and I, are a team. Thantos has a list of who he wants reaped. Basically, we take souls. Wee go by many names, such as Death-Bringers, Soul Collectors, et cetera. Now that you know about me and what I do, I want to know about you. Why people are afraid of you."

"Because of these." He said and showed Drifter his fangs. "I'm a vampire.. That's why I'm not afraid of you. You can't be afraid of something who take your soul, when you lost your soul 1900 years ago." He said, hiding his fangs again. "People always have the illusion of that I'm an enemy, only because I'm a vampire.. Sure, I drain blood, but that doesn't mean I'm evil.." He said and sighed.

"I know how you feel. Humans think your so evil and terrifying because of things you have, things you do. It annoys me," Drifter thought out loud.

"But even worse is those Twilight girls... Before in the time, people used to have respect for us vampires.. I mean, what idiot invented that vampires SPARKLE in sunlight?! I can tell you, my friend, that if I take my arm out in the sunlight I don't sparkle, I f*cking burn!" He said, sounding angry, even though he wasn't.

"Exactly. Its not like, 'Bling! Sparkle sparkle!' More like, 'Oh sh.it! My arm is on FIRE!" Drifter teased. "You know, no one ever makes movies or writes books about reapers. So I still have a sort of respect."

"I can recall one video game where it was a grim reaper in, but he was maybe the coolest character in the whole game, so that kept your respect." He said and smiled faintly. "It has been made many movies about us.. But most of them show us like we really are. Like Dracula, Nosferatu, and more.." He said, looking forward into nothingness again.

"Nosferatu is a favorite of mine. I think it portrayed him well." Drifter smiled back at the other man. "You know, I never did catch your name."

He sighed lightly. "I told you it before.. My name is Jerry, and incase you have forgotten it your name is Drifter." He said, a slight hint of sarcasm in his voice on the second sentence.

"Oh really. I wasn't paying attention when you introduced yourself." Drifter smirked at the vampire named Jerry. Hypni took her place on Jerry's shoulder; Drifter knew that she liked to try to make him jealous. He liked her cute way of showing him "affection". Drifter smiled.

Jerry smiled a little, and took Hypni on his finger before he sat it down on Drifter's shoulder. "I'm sorry butterfly, but I'm not your master." He said, smiling to the butterfly. He knew it was just a butterfly, but he had always had the feeling of that animals and insects knew more then they revealed.

Hypni quickly flew back to Jerry's shoulder. "She doesn't like to land on me. She's only here to protect me," Drifter quickly explained. "Hypni wants to be on your shoulder. Not mine." He softly laughed.

"So.. She wants to be on my shoulder so that she can beat the sh*t out of me quickly if I do something wrong?" He said, looking over to the butterfly with suspicious eyes as he said it. "Fair enough.." He said and sighed lightly.

"Well, she just likes to try and make me jealous by landing on other people's shoulders. And if you did something wrong, Apati would take care of you." Drifter looked at him with a straight face as he jumped up into the trees.

Jerry jumped after him up into the trees. "Oh really.. Then what does Hypni do? Is she just a living target to protect you?" He said, looking over at Hypni again.

"If you take a look at her wings, those are battle scars from protecting me. That is her ultimate goal in life." Drifter sat on a tree limb that hung over a small crystal-clear lake, but it looked more like a large puddle.

"Hm.. What a goal.." He muttered lowly, and sat down next to him. "She is beautiful though.." He said and looked up to the female butterfly.

"Yep... most beautiful butterfly I've ever seen. Its like me and her have our own little agreement. She protects me, I protect her." Drifter sighed and looked down into the small lake. "What a gorgeous lake... its crystal clear and no leaves are littering its surface," thought Drifter.

Jerry also looked on something beautiful, but it was not the lake; he was looking at Drifter, secretly checking him out. He of course knew that he was gay by now, when you have lived 1900 years you gotta be blind to not find it out. He had to admit, Drifter seemed pretty interresting....

Drifter turned his attention to Jerry, feeling his eyes on Drifter himself. "Is something wrong?" Drifter looked at Jerry, tilting his head slightly to the left. He did not notice a squirrel had been playing on the branch above them. Drifter looked up and smiled. He loved nature.

"No, nothing.." Jerry said and looked awey, forcing down a small blush as he looked up at the squirrel. "Nature sure is interresting.." He said looking at the squirrel. "Some things get to be cute creatures like that.. Some have to be like you and me.." He continued on, still looking up to it.

"I know... outcasts of society, uglies of nature. Things like us make me wonder if it was Satan who created us," Drifter said mysteriously.

"I don't wonder.. I know.. Why else would he send me back up here? When you become a vampire, you have to die first. So I was a human, died, went to hell, talked a little with Satan, and then he sent me up again as a vampire." He said and sighed heavily. "I still hate him for that.." He said and sighed once more.

"Well that sucks. I'm only half-dead. A curse from Thantos. I can feel pain and die, but I don't necessarily have to eat or drink. I can, but I don't really like to." Drifter sighed and them spoke once more. "It was vampires that killed my mother. I have tried to not associate with them... but you seem like you nice one."

"I can feel pain, I can die again, I can't be in sunlight, I can never eat normal food, and I have to drain blood from animals to stay awey from dying again. Consider yourself lucky my friend.. And thank you, it's nice of you to not judge me just because I'm a vampire." He said and got a faint smile, revealing his fangs for a second.

"You are somewhat like me. You can die, I can die. You are dead, I am dead. W both can feel pain. Your welcome." Drifter was amused by this vampire; he was probably the nicest one he'd met in all of his travels. Drifter took a look at his face. Jerry was rather handsome.

Jerry sighed lightly, then he looked over at Drifter. When he had done it, he found himself looking into his eyes. He got a very, very faint blush, then he looked awey again and down to the lake, forcing down the deep blush who tried to get onto his cheeks.

Drifter flipped upside down on the branch, only holing on with his legs. "So what's up?" he laughed. Drifter's face was starting to turn red; a side effect of being upside down.

Jerry looked down to him, and blushed, seeing straight down Drifter's shirt and over to his chest. "Nothing." He said and couldn't hold back the blush anymore, his cheeks turning into a nice and colorful shade of red as he quickly looked awey.

Drifter bit his lip and flipped down to the ground. He looked up at Jerry and smirked. "I bet I could beat you in a race." Apati was already floating back to Drifter's shoulder. His crimson wings were glittering in the light Drifter had just created. It was one of his secret abilities. "Don't worry, its like fluorescent light in a house. You won't be harmed."

"Do you really want to bet if you could beat me?" He said and jumped down to the ground aswell with a over dramatic forwards summersault. "Okay, I bet back that there's no way you can beat me in a race." He said and smiled to him.

"Please. I was blessed by a God. Of reaping. Let's say, from here to the Mystic swamp on the other side of town." Drifter smirked and said, "Ready~..... set~..... GO!" Drifter took off running with frightening speed.

"Claims he can beat me, and then he uses a head start.." He said and sighed. "Idiot.." He said and sighed again, then he let the vampire speed take over him, and then he just disappeared. Well, he didn't really disappear, he just moved faster then the eye could see. Since it was very dark that day, and he had just feeded, he could go around as fast as phycaly possible. When he was halfways, his ears hurted a little as he felt himself break the sound barrier by accident......

Drifter laughed, still running as fast as he could. "And... he just broke the sound barrier. Clever," thought Drifter.

Jerry reached the goal around 0.5 minutes later. As he stopped, he made a long trail in the ground after his feet, and since he didn't manage to stop in time, he fell face first down into the swamp. "Crap.." He muttered, and spat out some dark and bad tasting swamp water as he finally stopped.

Drifter appeared in front of Jerry. He had just faceplanted in swamp water. Drifter could not help but to laugh.

He spit out some more water, then said: "Atleast I won.." After he had said it he spat out some more. "Gah.. Stupid swamp water.." He said annoyed, as he got up to his feet fom the swamp, his clothes completely drenched.

Drifter looked the other boy over, using the opportunity to look at the other boy in bad places. "That, you did. Let's go get you changed."

((11:38 PM.))

He sighed, and said: "Alright.." He didn't actually look forward to walking all the way to his appartment, with clothes who was so wet that people could litterly see his private part if they looked hard enough. He sighed heavily, then started to wonder if he should use his speed or not to get there..

Drifter led him to his house. "You can stay here, if you'd like." He motioned down the hall to the guest bedroom.

"Oh.. Em.. Thanks. I guess.." He said, then he walked down to the guest room. He shyly stepped into the the bedroom, then he took off all his wet clothing, leaving him in his underwear. He sighed, then lied down on the bed and covered himself with the blanket.

Drifter sat in the living room, reading a book. Phantoms by Dean R. Koontz. It was his favorite book, but it was about Satan killing an entire town. It was weird. Drifter was weird. He waited patiently for Jerry to come back out.

Jerry wasn't going to come out for a while.. It was no way that he would walk out to Drifter in only his underwear; he barely knew the guy! He sighed heavily in his bed, then he closed his and rested. Not slept, rested.

Drifter put his book down and went to go knock on Jerry's door. "Sorry, I forgot that you didn't have any clothes! Here, give me your clothes and I'll go run them through the wash." Drifter did not open the door, but just waited for Jerry to hand him his swamp-water-soaked pants and T-shirt.

Jerry didn't answer him, he had falled asleep by accident in the bed. Luckily he had most of his body covered, so Drifter could just walk in and pick up the clothes without seeing anything that he shouldn't see...

Drifter opened the door to his bedroom, finding Jerry asleep. "I thought vampires didn't need to sleep," he whispered as he gathered the clothing. Drifter wanted so badly to peel back the covers and take a peek. He smiled at the thought of... erm... you get the point. Drifter took one last look at Jerry. "Sleep tight, Jerry," he murmured as he left the room and headed towards the washer and dryer set.

Jerry lied there silently in his sleep. That vampires didn't sleep, was just another lie, vampires slept just like everybody else.. Hadn't Drifter seen those vampire movies from the 80's, where vampires always lied in their coffins and slept at day? Jerry didn't know that Drifter had been in there, so he continued sleeping..

Drifter snickered and opened the washing machine. He turned on the water, measured the soap, and put the clothes in. Drifter turned his attention back to his book in the living room.

Jerry woke up about one hour later; even though vampires sleep, they don't need to sleep for long. He sighed lightly, and discovered his clothes gone, meaning he was stuck in the room until he got them back.. "Great.." He muttered, and sighed.

Jerry's clothes had just got put into the dryer. Drifter had just slipped a note under Jerry's door. It read: Look in the closet. You should be able to find a robe in there."

Jerry spotted the paper, so he got up to his feet and read through it. "Great.." He muttered again and sighed, then took on the robe he had found in the closet. He looked kinda redicilous, but he guessed he would have to live with it..

"Its the best I have," said Drifter. He was not rich, but had a pretty nice house; two-story, three-and-a-half bathrooms, four bedrooms, large kitchen, pool, etc.

Jerry walked out, and looked around the house. "Wow... Gods must be paying good money.." He said, looking around at all the things around him. "How did you even afford this? Did you even pay for this? Or did you just rip the original's owner soul out and took over the house?" He said, obviously joking.

Drifter put his book down and looked at Jerry. "Well, I reaped the owner and stole his house." He smiled at the other boy in his robe. Drifter heard the dryer stop, and got up to fetch Jerry's clothes.

"I was kidding.. But alright.." He said and sighed. He had drained the blood of his house owner, he guessed it was pretty much the same.. He had a policy to only drain the blood of those who deserved it.

"That is what I did, so...," Drifter explained. He wasn't sure what he was going to do, so he tossed the vampire his clothes. "Go get changed." He snickered.

"Alrighty." He said, then he walked into the guest room again. He sighed lightly, then he took off the robe. He made sure Drifter wasn't watching him, then he took on his old clothes again. When he had done that, he walked back to Drifter.

"Did you have fun changing?" Drifter chuckled. He liked to tease boys. After living almost 700 years, you would know whether you were gay or not. "What would you like? To drink or eat, I mean. I have...." Drifter walked over to the fridge, where he kept his food and drinks when he wanted to eat, which was not often. "....Sprite.. and thats about it for drinks."

Jerry chuckled a little. "I don't need food or drinks.. Vampire, remeber? But a little Sprite do sound nice." He said, and smiled, revealing his vampire teeth for a short moment. "And yes, I had very much fun in changing.. Never been so fun." He added sarcasticly in the end.

"Just have to make sure," Drifter said as he tossed Jerry the Sprite. He notice him flash his fangs and he smiled a Cheshire Cat grin back at him.

Jerry smiled at him widely, then poured a glass to himself from the sprite. "Do you also want some?" He said, looking to Drifter questionally. "I'm not a master of knowing what reapers eat.." He muttered after.

Drifter held up his hand. "We don't eat. Well, we don't have to eat. But we can." He smiled at Jerry.

"Okay.. Techniqually the only thing I need to survive is blood, but it's very handy to eat something else too.. Since blood is quite hard to get without hurting somebody." He said and sighed lightly.
