This is quite a feat, considering that she's only seventeen (by East Asian age reckoning.) At the beginning of the manga, she has no students and she is likely to lose the dojo until Kenshin comes along and helps her out.

Naturally, she is independent, possessive, compassionate, courageous, feisty, strong-willed, and a great fighter to boot... with only the occasional mood swing. According to the manga, she has enough skill to be considered a national-level champ in kendo. Despite her skill, she usually stays on the sidelines in the manga. Kaoru is also known for her terrible cooking and her ability to see the good in others.

Though she is short tempered and possessive, Kaoru is incredibly selfless. She took in a 10 year old pickpocket, a 19 year old street fighter, and a wandering vagabond who used to kill for a living without thinking twice over their pasts. She began the 'kenshin gumi' out of willingness to help others. She is considered naiive to be so trusting, but she has the maturity to handle the consequences. Kaoru's beliefs are held strongly and proudly, almost stubbornly, particularly her beliefs in the sword.

Kamiya Kaoru adheres to her father's ideal of "Katsujin-ken" or "Swords that give life," which teaches that swordsmanship should be used not to kill, but to conquer. This belief is a slap in the face to many swordsmen, who advocate that a sword is for "mastery and death," and nothing more. Himura Kenshin, however, feels that her beliefs should, in fact, become reality: "If this one had a wish, it would only be that her lie become the truth of this world."

In the anime, she is the daughter of the club's owner, but in the manga, she is just an employee. It is initially implied that Yumi was interested in a relationship with Hideki, but as the series progresses it is revealed that she initially approached him because he also worked at Club Pleasure, and that she thinks of him as a big brother. Throughout most of the series Yumi has an inferiority complex toward persocoms, and becomes upset at any mention of a human-sized persocom.

The reason for this is that while Yumi was working at Chiroru she fell in love with the manager, Hiroyasu Ueda. She gathered the courage to tell him, and found out that he reciprocated her feelings. All would have been well, except that Yumi discovered that Ueda had previously been married to a persocom that he had named Yumi, (See Hiroyasu's entry) and she thought that he would compare the human Yumi to the persocom Yumi and find the human Yumi inferior.

However, Hideki eventually manages to persuade Yumi that Hiroyasu wouldn't have started anything if he didn't love Yumi for who she was, and he and Yumi start going out again.

In the anime, she spent some of that time in England, fighting as Sailor V, where she met a young police woman named Katarina and a young man called Alan, with whom she fell in love. When she found out Alan and Katarina, who was as close to her as an older sister, had become a couple, she felt betrayed and moved back to Japan, leaving the two of them to believe her to have died in an explosion.

Silly or serious, Minako consistently displays great confidence, enthusiasm, and leadership skill. She is the "owner" of Artemis, the white guardian cat who introduced her to her life as a Senshi. He lives in her home (as Luna lives in Usagi's) and is one of her closest friends. She is the only senshi other than Usagi to live with both parents, although references to her family life are downplayed outside of the Sailor V manga (perhaps because her father looks almost identical to Usagi's).

She loves volleyball, a fact which actually comes up several times throughout the series, and is a terrible cook. Minako's greatest dream is to become a famous idol, and she is often shown practicing for this, attending auditions, or obsessing over real idols.

Minako takes her role as the 'Soldier of Love' literally, and enjoys regaling friends and acquaintances with advice about romance. She is very boy-crazy and a flirt. Despite her declared expertise, Minako herself has little personal experience in relationships, though she is generally on the lookout for opportunities.

Tomo, expecting her to act like the stereotypical Osakan (loud, exuberant and fond of bawdy jokes), quickly chose for her the nickname "Osaka," although Ayumu's behavior could not be more different from the "typical" Osakan. Ayumu considers her label "too simple" and "icky," but she lacks the energy or motivation to dispute it. Her nickname sticks so well that she becomes known as "Osaka" by the teachers and even in the class roster. After a while, no one remembers her real name (Yomi has a similar problem). In the anime, even Yukari put her on the class list as "Osaka", because her real name had been completely forgotten. In the manga, Osaka mentioned that she lived in Kobe when she was in elementary school and was born in Wakayama. Tomo, who says she doesn't know where Wakayama is, tells Ayumu to "just be Osaka".

Osaka often acts like a "dim bulb": slow, inattentive, and stuck in her own world. Although she seems slow and easily distracted, she merely has a mind that works quite differently from that of most people. This makes her prone to daydreaming, absentmindedness, and non-sequiturs, but it also makes her unusually good at answering certain types of riddles. But while some people assume that she lacks focus, the truth is that in quite a few cases, Osaka is really a little too focused. When she gets a thought in her head, she tends to focus on it so intently that the rest of the world simply disappears, causing her to often miss what's going on around her.

However, her sense of humor is sometimes unusually morbid. On their first trip to Chiyo's summer home, Osaka proposed telling a scary story where all of the girls are murdered one by one, only to reveal that in the end, she was the one who killed them all. She is also easily amused by things that most people would consider bizarre. During the Sports Festival, she made a big deal out of running the obstacle course because she thought the event of sticking her face in flour to get a piece of candy was funny and had a giggle fit when she got there. The manga also revealed that she actually likes to run outside and play in typhoons.

Koenma came in and ignored the baka and detective. "Hiei, you have to go to this school." He handed Hiei a piece of paper with directions. "Is this a mission?" He asked stuffing the paper in his pocket. "Nope, just do it." Koenma said laughig leaving the room. "Why do I have to this if it's not a mission." Hiei grumbled. "Maybe Koenma wants us to split up so we can get more things done." Kurama sugjested(sp?). "Hn...." He walked out of the room and into his room to start packing.

There was a knock on Hiei's door. When he opened it Kuwabara and Kurama grabbed him by the arms. "What the hell are you doing?!" They tied him up to a chair and Yusuke went through Hiei's stuff. "What are you doing detective?!" Hiei yelled angerly. "Look at this! All black!" Yusuke said taking out Hiei's stuff. "Tsk, tsk. This won't do. You need jeans, t-shirts, cooler shoes! Luckly we bought alot of those for ya!" "WHAT?!" Hiei struggled. "Sorry Shrimp. It's for your own good." Kuwabara said dragging in another suitcase. Yusuke opened it and took out alot of diffrent clothes. "Hiei's color is definetly black and red...Maybe blue and purple." Yusuke said. "I'M NOT A DOLL!!! UNTIE ME THIS INSTENCE FOX BOY!!" "Sorry, Hiei." Kurama said with an anime sweat drop.
