Kya yawned and rolled over in her bed, feeling much more comfortable than she had in months. She smiled in her state of semi-sleep and kicked the thick quilt of her that she'd been using to gaurd against the cold winter air.

Then her eyes snapped open.....was the heat turned up higher? Was she sick? Why was SHE so comfortable in February ((???)). She sat up, a sinking feeling growing in the pit of her stomach. Something about this comfortable feeling was very....uncomfortable. And familiar...

"Not good," she muttered, running down the hall to the lobby. "Not good!"

She'd known it, felt it, smelled it from upstairs, and yet the mini inferno spreading from the lit fireplace of the lobby and engulfing the two nearest couches still suprised her.

"****," she muttered, biting her lip and thinking hard. Something in the back of her mind said, call the firedepartment, but she ignored the voice. This wasn't too serious. She could handle this....right?

She crept uncertainly closer to the fire, eerily entranced by it, and reached out a hand to touch one of the licking flames.

Mavrick rose a brow as he exited his room..


''Crazy kid~'' he purred then walked tword the bathroom.

Kya giggled quietly as the orange flames danced over her palm, weaving in and out of her fingers. They felt oddly cool to her.

"Maybe I should be paying attention to this fire," she whispered. But she couldn't seem to focus....or care. It wasn't like she really knew what to do anyway.

Mavrick walked down stairs and entered the lobby.

''Hey Ky-- WHOAA what the hell?! '' He exclaimed.

Kya jumped and turned around, a blush hotter than the fire crawling into her cheeks.

"I...uh....um...I dunno!" she finally blurted. "I woke up and I smelled smoke and I came down here....We gotta do something. I gotta do something!" She stopped to take a breath and choked on smoke. "Call the fire department," she coughed, eyes streaming. I'm gonna see if I can at least get the couch-cover things off. They burn fastest...." ((Yeah. Gave up on that non-stupid thing. I don't care. I'm BORED.))

In the lobby, Kya worked to untie the couch-covers ((I'll never live this down)). Her fingers moved slowly. She couldn't figure out why she liked the feeling of the flames wrapping themselves around her wrists. It was kinda like a drug. It surprised her to feel Mavrick's hand on her arm.

"No..." she said quietly, without much force, though she didn't budge. Her eyes were wide and purple-y. "I like it......try it! It's nice...."

Kya sighed. *Nothing. Just...wondering. I'm fine.*

She looked at Mavrick, blushing. "What.....did you see?" she asked, almost afraid to hear.

The fire had spread and the room was full of thick, choking smoke. "Poo" she muttered. "Mavrick! We gotta go! Where are you?" She ran to the kitchen and ran a dish towel under cold water and put it over her mouth and nose. Then ran into the lobby and up the stairs. Where IS he? she thought? Oh, please GOD let him be okay....

Mavrick was coming back down the stairs to the second floor when his kitty ears twitched.. He heard some one..or some thing. Mavrick waved the towel away and brought his shirt over his mouth/nose. He followed Kya back outside when the fire trucks were arriving.

''Any one in side?'' One asked.

''I dont know.. I don't think so.'' Mavrick said between coughs. He sat down on the sat on the snowy lawn.

Kya stood behind Mavrick, watching the flames jump around inside, her eyes wide with awe. The carpet was burned black. Her eyes watered again, and not from the smoke this time. She hoped none of her friends were in there. She couldn't imagine something like that happening to any of them. She cleared her throat-it turned into a cough.

"Are you okay?" she asked Mavrick, her voice tight with worry. I should have been able to do something, she thought. She was vaguely aware of one of the firemen talking to her, but she ignored him. A second later, she felt a heavy blanket over her shoulders. It was all very unreal.

''Im fine.'' he breathed heavily for a second. From the excitement and smokey lungs. He stopped. ''Yeah I'm fine.'' he repeated covering his nose with his shirt again. ''I smell like an ashtray though.'' he shivered a bit. "Share~~'' he said baby like about Kyas blanket. "Im so nervous I hope no one is inside..'' he looked down at the snow.

Kya smiled weakly and sat down next to Mavrick, offering her half her blanket. "We've been hickory smoked," she said, attepmting a laugh. She shook her head. "No one's inside," she said, feeling more confident than she felt.

As if on cue, a fireman/paramedic came over. "There's no one else inside, and the fire hasn't spread too much. We're just finishing up. She knelt in front of them and set down his little casey-thing. "Are you two alright?"

Kya nodded once, stifling an inconvienently timed cough and glanced at Mavrick, asking a silent question. His face was smeared with ash.

"I think I'm gonna be sick..." she muttered getting up quickly and walking into the trees on the side of the apartment.

Kya leaned against a tree, trying to ignore the horrible taste in her mouth. "Yuck," she muttered. "What a night." She winced. Her head hurt. She decided smoke was the worst part of any fire.

Kya turned calmly. "Hi. There was a fire. Don't worry, I'm fine."

Kya spent a few more minutes outside with Sai making sure she wasn't going to be sick anymore, then went inside, stopping to thank the FD guys.

She went straight to the kitchen and poured herseld a glass of ice water, wincing at the soreness of her raw throat. She started upstairs--the whole place smelled like smoke. She opened a few windows on the way. She looked down at herself. A shower didn't sound so bad.

''Taaaalk to me~'' he purred. ''Raffael ? Ayye. What's good mah brothaaaaaa? Hm..the apartments are fine besides the fire thing. NO IT WASN'T MY FAULT! Yeesh...So when you coming back?'' Mavricks face went panicy. ''Whaa?!'' Mavrick shook the phone then returned it to his head. ''...A month or more?..WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO IM GOING TO DIE!! YES I WILL T__T'' he whined. ''FINE . I hate you too good day.'' Mavrick snapped the phone shut and shoved it into his pocket angrily. He continued walking but mummbling too.

Mavrick crossed his arms and grumpily walked down the street. His tail swishing violently from behind his long black leather coat. (YAY FOR HOLES IN YOUR COAT XD)) Occasionly it whacked some one in the ass, 'causing them to turn around with a question on their face.


''Frikkin'....'' he bumped into a mail box and kicked it. ''..every thing.'' he finished.

Mavrick looked around and saw a familliar face. He invited himself to sit down.

''Why so gloomy Sunshine~'' he purred and leaned back in his seat, and looked at his nails.

Neko smiled a bit at him. "Hey Mavrick. And a lot of things are making me gloomy."

Suki looked scared Marvrick always made him scared

"Any thing..specific?'' Mavrick rose a brow and balanced the chair on 3 legs. He just looked at Suki for a moment, then back to Neko.

"Ummm, Suki? Care to relay what you told me to Mavrick?" Neko asked him.

Suki didnt talk and just stared at Marvick with big eyes.

"Suki!" Neko snapped her fingers in front of his face, waving her hand around.

"Come on spit it out boy~'' Mavrick said annoyed, then went back on all fours (chair) . He waved over a waitress and ordered a drink before looking back at the two.
