Chapter One:Betrayal
Morning trickled its warm rays across the quiet lands of Ansilve, awakening its slumbering inhabitants with the merry chirping of morning birds.Tufts of white floated freely in the azure sky, often forming small images of shapes, animals, and occcasionally a face or two.Life began to stir in Ansilve's small town of Ansine, also home to a tribe of magic users and Ansilve's ruler, Shinrai.Asine consisted of several ston buildings or temples, each temple formed a different section of the castle it formed. From a distance Ansine appeared like a giant stone cliseum, its roof domed and hollowed out with winding stairs that spiraled to the highest room that belonged to its young ruler.
Aside from its circular roof, the palace itself was diamond shaped and held many rooms and stair cases.Otuside the castle was plain, its walls were decorated with multicolored flowers and runes of a forgotten language.Ansine's inhabitants were busily scurrying through out the castle, for today they were going to be visisted by the one betrothed to their ruler.Almost everyone was tense and overcome with anxiety, one who wasn't was the ruler herself who sat calmly on her feather bed.Her long black hair was pulled back into a braid, silver bangs fell in her face and rubbed against the sides of her pointed chin.
Her red speckled green eyes shown clearly against her tanned complexion, their slitted pupils held a placid expression.Black rubies hung a few inches from her pointed ears and bore an engraving of a rose and a small heart behind it.An ankle length black dress served as her garb and comfortably around her tall, slender frame.A zipper ran up the back of her dress, its color a faint silver.A brown leather strap wrapped around her left shoulder and crossed diagnally under her right.
Attached to the strap was a long sword, its pommel a silver sphire and shaped like a serpents eye.The swords scabbard was a light green and had silver running along it, weaving around its sides and forming a rose-like symbol.Knee length black leather boots served as her foot ware and clung loosely to her lower legs.A small dagger was tucked into her right boot, its hilt was a dull white and bore the image of a small dragon.A sigh escaped her thin lips as she layed sideways, leaving her right arm under her as her left rested along her leg.
Shinrai briefly glanced around her room, there were no windows in her room. The cool air that wafted through the room was from a mixture of spells, one to create the air and two to circulate the air throught out the castle. Her room was plain, the walls were the same as the ones outside, roses hing from the ceiling and gave the room a sweet scent.A large wooden dresser was shoved in the far left corner, silver hands were embedded on each of its sixe drawers. In the opposite corner was the feather bed she lay on, it was larger than a queen size bed and the silk sheets that were spread neatly atop it were scarlet.
A thick black carpet decorated her floor with spirals and dots. Her doorway was doorless, the only thing blocking of any view inside her empty room was a dark grey curtain that was attached to the doorway where it appeared to be the stone itself.A frown played ib her thin lips, behind her calm mask was frustration and disaproval.Unlike everyone else, Shinrai hated her hand picked partner, not hate wasn't the word, loathed was more fitting. She wanted Viselh's ruler as her partner, but it would be a great betrayal to the treaty between their lands.
Itam was Viselh's ruler, also a fierce swordsnab aand warlord. Many called him evil, merciless, pitiless, and heartless, but to Shinrai he was none of those. His words in the letters he sent were so pleasent, so caring. But so was her partners words and the way he spoke to her, Vreal was his name.He ruled the Eastern lands of Alkarie, he had far better titles, but tules were anothers view on that person, not hers, but anothers. No, to her he was annoying, constantly speaking in that soft voice, constantly filling her with kind words.
She hated it, she wanted to silence his caring whisper, to ignore itd soothing words. Its not like he really loved her, it seemed more like an act, a cruel act that her father had designed. But her father wasn't there to force her into her marriage, he wasn't there to pester her about how she ruled. He was no longer there to enforce the treaty, the treaty he created out of fear of losing his lands. Now she was in charge, she couldn't break the treaty, oh no, her dad made sure of that.
But she could betray it, it and her people, and flee to her true love in Viselh. She was eighteen now, rebellious and defiant, she had a right to chose who she was to marry.A smile replaced her diapproving frown, it would be hitting to brids with one sharp stone, run away and marry Itami and anger her late father by betraying his wishes. And crushing Vreal, she knew how he felt about her, but she didn't believe his emotions were real.Yes, it was perfect, then again, what about her people?
