View Full Version : Abortion: My Opinion

While I recognize that my opinion may not be appreciated by many, I've decided to voice ti all the same. Please note that I'm not posting this to instigate an argument, nor am I saying that I won't talk to others with different viewpoints on the matter. I'm simply saying what I have concluded on the matter.
I'm just going to flat out and say it, I'M PRO-CHOICE. That's right, I beleive that each woman should have a right to terminate her pregnancy within the alloted time- which I beleive to be seven months. please feel free to correct me if that fact is wrong, I can't find the site I got the info from.
And before anyone here thinks I'm some sort of devil worshipping satanist, I've got something else to say. I'M ROMAN CATHOLIC. Which means my personal opinion differs greatly from that of my faith. Beleive me, I kow. I've been in parochial school all my education and I'm going to a catholic secondary school (high school).
I don't think it's right for someone to tell me I have one less right as a woman and that if I become pregnant, I HAVE to birth the child. Whether I give the child up or keep it is entirely up to me, but I have to wqait nine months and let society know what I've been doing in my free time. It's a woman's decision between her and god. I don't tell others what to do with their bodies.

Oh wow. First, that takes a lot of guts and courage to say to a bunch of people who you (most likely) don't know in person.
And I completely agree with you. I was raised Roman Catholic as well, but due to several resons, am no longer a part of the church.
Though I think it is five months, not seven. I'm not one hundred percent sure, but ninety.

**applauds** Bravo. Bravo. That was indeed gutsy. Not to mention well-phased. I agree with you, all the way. And I'm so glad to see someone here sharing my opinion on this.
I agree with this too. I'm glad to see other people go pro-choice.

woah. Most of my friends are completely pro-life. I'm happy to know there's more than just a few people I know that agree.

I have a penis. I can't tell women what to do with their bodies.
Neither should anyone else with a penis.
You no playa the game, you no maka the rules.
(Read- I'm pro-choice by default. I'd be pro-choice if I were allowed to say anything anyways, so no biggie.)
Until the Roman Catholic Church has a female pope, it should not say anything on the topic of abortion. And until the Roman Catholic Church is getting laid, it's not allowed to say anything about birth control.
I'm in the same boat as Nickoli with the raised Roman Catholic thing. And it certainly doesn't help that my parents are making me get confirmed Roman Catholic.
It does take a lot of guts to stand up for what you believe in- good for you for taking the initiative.

Well, we could go by the scientific veiw of the matter and dicuss that humans are no more than animals who have evolved differently than all the others, just as dogs evolved differently from cats, horses from alligators, ans birds from fish. So if we veiw it in that way, we could say it isn't anything more than a mass of cells beginnning to form a small being.
If you want to take the religious road, I really can't debate it from any viewpoint except what I know of the RC Church's standpoint on it.
But, were we not granted free will from God? That very same free will allowed Cain to kill abel, did it not? And I don't think that just because we are able to do something we should, so don't get confused. But just as murder is illegal in the eyes of the law, abortion is illegal in the catholic church. I'm not saying I want to change the laws of the church, i'm simply saying that I believe those who have had an abortion, or ever think of having one, should not be persecuted for thier choices. To me that's as stupid as pummeling someone because they bought a grape lollipop in stead of cherry.
And if it angers you, so be it. I've seen pictures of aborted fetuses (spelling?) before. I prefer to stay educated on these topics.
I get angry when most of my friends, family, and teachers talk about abortion and I can't say anything because I know I'll end up in the middle of a heated debate against all of them when I was only trying to say what my opinion is on that matter.
And when strangers consider everyone who's pro-choice to be a horrible person. We aren't. WE're mormal people just like everyone else, but we have different opinions. I'm not saying you're one of the people who think of others in that way, but I'm just trying to say that I won't change my opinion because others don't like it, nor am i forcing it on them.

I can empathize with the not being allowed to discuss my viewpoints, which are stated above. Pro-choice is not pro-abortion, something th pro-lifers need to understand.
In regards the the RC Church, their ranks are full of men. Yes, there are some nuns and whatever, but they aren't in positions to make any sort of decree or whatever it needs to be. Therefore, the RC Church, being governed completely by penises, should not say anything about abortion. Until they have some female leaders, they should keep their mouth shut. Men aren't the ones that can get pregnant or have an abortion.

Wow.. this is my first time seeing this.. And I may be abit late but In my opinion it isnt right at all to force someone to birth a child, but then again who says someone has the right to take a child's life?.. You layed in the bed so you should deal with the consequences... Its bad to have the miracle of life bestowed on you when some woman dream to have that privalage and then you go and destroy the child you carry?... Thats like going and killing someone if you ask me.. Its not in any way right to me.. Its a child and if you dont want the responsability of it then dont go around doing shamefull things without proper.. 'care'.. or at least have the child and give it to someone who wishes to care for it and nourish it with the love it needs.

I believe that abortion is a highly contraversial topic.
On the one hand you must firstly consider the girls circumstance.
Can she provide for the child?
Does she have any other children she must provide for?
Did she consent to the sexual actions be it protected or unprotected?
What age is the girl that she would be put through the sever pain of childbirth?
And would it not affect her physical or mental state of being?
And also is the girl underage for sexual intercourse?
Secondly, the child.
Is the child yet capable of thinking, no matter how small the thoughts may be?
Has its body fully developed?
Does the child seem in good clinical condition and are there high chances it would survive the birth?
Relating to the above does the child appear to be liable to develop or has it already developed a disability?
If the answers to these are mainly no I believe a permit for the abortion should be granted on the grounds that obviously the girl or the child would find it better to go through with the abortion due to medical, mental, or economic problems.
If the answers on the other hand are no and the girl simply does not want the child, frankly I believe she should still have to give birth to the child she was bearing but she should not necessarily have to call it her own, it may be sent for adoption by another couple, but if it is on these grounds it should most certainly not be terminated.

A beating heart does not constitute life. That same friend who got raped? Recently she dropped out of school with the child because her parents don't believe in abortion. Sixteen years old...
