Do you think it's right for people to not be straight?
Do you think that people should be allowed to say negative things about it, such as in class discussions?
I've been in a few classes where we've been discussing sexual orientation and I got quite hurt by the things some people were saying about gay/bi people as they were being really mean.
So what are your views on any of this?

i think that people should be able to love whoever they want to be in love with and its not right to laugh at them.

I agree.
It's messed up when people try to use your orientation as a way of trying to insult people. If someone is gay, they are obviously not bothered by and and so musn't have a problem with it and therefore would not find it insulting.

Yeah, theres no difference whatsoever between someone who is straight/bi/gay so I see no reason why people feel they need to be mean to them and treat them differently!

No, it's not right. If we were to be homosexuals, there wouldn't be two kinds of the same species in a first place. If we were to reproduce by asexual manners, there wouldn't be two kinds of the same species... Females are for males and Males for females. The fact that now is becoming at certain level "socially acceptable" doesn't make it right, but as far as I'm concerned, you can fukc whoever you please.

I agree with most of you. Not being straight myself, I think that if you find someone who cares about you for who you are, and you can return those feelings, it doesn't matter that you follow the Catholic church's views of "correct" or "lawful". Love is love. Period.

It's not "right"?...
Who can say what is "right" and what's "wrong"? This is totally subjective. But, anyway, if you think that being gay or bi is a problem, what would be the "solution"?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay/bi. Really, it's something your born with. You can't decide if you're gay. It's in your DNA, or something, that you will be that way, so to say that being gay is wrong is just stupid. We can't do anything about it. We feel the way we feel because we were born that way.
I hate how the world is so... against gay people. Like, in my state, they're talking about banning gay marriage. I don't know if they've passed anything or not, but they're talking about it. The congress is. What's so bad about loving your own gender over the opposite gender? Nothing. Love is love. Period. We can't decide who we like or don't like. Something inside us just decides. Same with straight people.
I was in class a while ago, and the subject came up. So, someone said something about girls liking girls and everyone was just, fine, then it was guys liking guys, and everyone was like, "EWW!" I don't get it. It's pretty much the same thing. Maybe it was just because it was a male populated class. Only a few girls, whom didn't all say anything, and mostly just the guys did.
It kinda is just like being racist. Pushing out a certain group of society and saying, "We don't like them because they like the same gender." It's stupid and really has no point whatsoever. Just because we see things from a different perspective.

I am quoting my wonderous fiance on this... with the whole... DNA or something stuff.
Let's start off with the fact that, I don't know, let's see...
when one is concieved by his/her parents, that one person has no choice over how thier mind is going to develop. A couple of weeks after development in the womb, that individual's amounts of testosterone are set, and so are thier levels of estrogen. These two factors affect the centers of the brain that control who and what the individual will like, love, and become intimate with.
So, want me to translate that for you?
It means..
One has no choice to become a homosexual.
No, it's not a choice.
I will not go to hell.
(Well, maybe if I shoot someone, but I wouldn't do that.)
I'm sorry for those who think it is a choice.
You could put a little gay boy on an island with girls from the second he was born..
and no matter how much he tried, he wouldn't fall in love.
Being gay is not a way to strike back at one's father, or society... at least not in most cases.
It's something that is part of someone.
You can't change your eye color, now can you?

I was in a class like that too.
In the end, the teacher stopped everyone from giving their views on homosexuality. But then everyone was talking about people being bi and were saying really mean and hurtful things.
I didn't think it was right that the teacher was allowed to let this go on, she didn't know if anyone in my class was gay/bi. It's just the same as letting people make racist comments when there is someone of a different race in the class. It's no different, right?

Exactally. It's completely the same. People are more ok with different races, though, because you can tell from skin color. And so if there is one African American in a class full of white people, they probably wouldn't say anything mean, because they can tell. But with gay/bi people, you can't tell unless they tell you. So, they're more likely to get attacked since no one really knows if they're gay/bi or not.

I have a guy who has come up with a list of reasons why I'm "totally" a lesbian. All of these are direct quotes.
1. I sit funny
2. I have stuffed animals
3. The bed I sleep in
4. I don't have a boyfriend
I especially like #3...

But, I see nothing wrong with bi/homosexual people. It's just what makes them most comfortable to be around with?

Thats terrible you have to get crap for who you are. All my friends know about my orentation, and sometimes even joke about it, like I'll over hear one of the guys saying he needs a girlfriend, so I'll suggest to go cruising for chicks with him.
It may be the school I go to, where everyone (okay, except potheads) are accepted, or it may be the fact that I don't let that stuff get to me.
About middle of this year, this girl freaked out, because she was afraid lesbianism was contagious or something, so I got all defiant, and from that point on, no one gives me serious crap.

Love is love. Period.
I agree. But Love is asexual by itself and is unrelated to sexual orientations. I love my mom. I love my sister. I love my neighbor's daughter. I love my friend Shinya (a little too much maybe). Love is for everyone. Being inlove with someone your same sex is different.
Yes. Is wrong for the reasons I just exposed and for religious believes I won't say here, but I'm not trying to give "solutions" of any kind to a problem that's not my own.
No, probably it's not a choice, but that is not gonna save your from hell....

People doing that really annoy me! It's really mean and there is no need to do that to people just because you don't agree with who thet are.
I went away this weekend and had to put up with my parents making rude comments about people being gay/bi. Firstly they started off being mean about some gat guy in a band, then they were laughing and being really mean about these two girls who were holding hands and kissing. It made me really angry, but I don't have the confidence to say anything.

I do understand what you're saying and I believe that everyone is allowed to express their own opinions (in a none mean way), but there are different kinds of love.
You love your sister and your brother, both the same, in the same way yet they are different sexes, you love your mother and father, the same, in the same way and yet again they are different sexes. If your best friend is male, you love him the same as you would if he was female. So you can then love someone the same sex as you more than/just the same as you do with someone of the opposite sex.

The way I look at: I mean some people can't control their sexual desires. Like a guy that feels like a girl on the inside. Is that his fault? He was born that way. Or she. Whatever. The point is no one be beat or ridiculed for something like that. What about people who are racist in this world? How come no one comes down on them as hard as they come down on gays?

See, the reason I made this was because I knew a few people on here think that it's wrong, but in other discussions like this, they've just been argueing and shouting. So I think it's good that everyone is giving their views without having to worry about what other people are going to say about what they think.

Like, when they make fun of other people and stuff. I think that's just the stupidest thing to do.

I'm not sure why people make fun of me though, I haven't done anything to make them hate me and there's no reason for anyone to be jealous of me.

Some people would probably be jealous of me because I'm friends with Paulie, and everyone loves Paulie, but he's like, against having 50 million random friends. So, he takes like, forever to actually consider someone a friend, y'know?

Yeeah. I mean, if you don't like anything, just don't say anything about it. Leave us alone, y'know?
@ Unloved :: I hate it when people just go out of their way to say that what we're doing and what we like is wrong. It's so annoying. In another case, I was talking to this one girl who is a friend of my friend. And she's all religious. So, she made this big huge ****ing deal about me being gay. Like, she didn't mind me, but, the fact that I liked guys just erked her.
So I made a complete ass of her and made my friend tell her things. Like, you know how 'God hates Gays. There's that whole passage thing or whatever about it, and he got rid of the gays.' Or something. Yeah, I talked to my brother about it, and he said that that town had a lot of sin in it, not just gay people, but there were a lot of other people there. Like, whores and **** like that or something.
Well. It's true that homosexuality has a negative connotation in the Bible. But I know that particular story your talking about. With the lot, and his wife, and the salt, right?
We just finished our "homosexuality" section in Bible class.
If it helps any, I'm WAAAAY more liberal than most of my friends.

I think it is. See, there's the people, right? Angels, actually, disguised as people, and they're staying with Lot. Lot is this like uber upstanding guy in the city (Sodom), and he's really the only one. So anyway, they all go into the city, and all the guys (literally ALL the guys who can walk) are like, "Omg! Hot men!" So they all try to rape the angels, and God is like, "Whoa. Not cool man. Ima kill you all. Take your family and go." And Lot's all like, "Wait, no. There's gotta be some good people here." And God's all like, "Fine. Find fifty and I'll spare y'all." And Lot's like, "Uhh...30?" And God's like, "Fine." And then some more men try and rape the angels and God's all like, "Dude, Lot. This is not right. Ima kill y'all. Take your family and go." And Lot's like, "Wait. There's gotta be some good people here." And then after some talking, Lot wittles it down to five good people for God to spare the city, but then there's more man-lust, so Lot has to leave, and God kills the peeps, and He's all, "Hey, Lot, don't look back, 'kay?" And Lot's like, "Okay." Except for his wife does and she gets turned into a pillar of salt.
So. That's the story. But I'm suer God doesn't sound like a seventeen year old girl from California.
Anyway. My point is He doesn't directly SAY it's bad-not in this verse anyway--but there is a definate negative connotation. Kay?

I've been in a few classes where we've been discussing sexual orientation and I got quite hurt by the things some people were saying about gay/bi people as they were being really mean.
So what are your views on any of this?
i think that you can be gay,b i,or staright as long as you dont put other people down for being another way and i dont think that people should be able to say begative things about this including calling people gay. i got called lesbian for about a year because of highlights in my hair(nothing to do with the other) and some kids in my school said that gays shouldnt be allowed in the army and that gays are mentally sick what the hell

Oh and as for that passage. God doesn't hate gays. He loves all his children. He may hate the act but not the person.
She is a hypocrite. God says to love everyone as you love him. You can't just take out what parts of the bible you want.
Unless they're very clear about it. Because in this matter, the bible is very clear about it.
Some passages that have been advanced as pertinant to the issue of homosexuality are, in fact, irrelevant. One is the attempted gang rape in Sodom (Gen. 19: 1-29). That was a case of ostensibly heterosexual males intent on humiliating strangers by treating them "like women," thus demasculinizing them. (This is also the case in a similar account in Judges 19-21.) Their brutal behavior has nothing to do with the problem of whether genuine love expressed between consenting persons of the same sex is legitimate or not. Likewise, Deuteronomy 23:17-18 must be pruned from the list, since it most likely refers to a heterosexual prostitute involved in Canaanite fertility rites that have infiltrated Jewish worship; the King James Version inaccurately labeled him a "sodomite."
Several other texts are ambiguous. It is not clear whether I Corinthians 6:9 and I Timothy 1:10 refer to the "passive" and "active" partners in homosexual relationships, or to homosexual and heterosexual male prostitutes. In short, it is unclear whether the issue is homosexuality alone, or promiscuity and "sex-for-hire."
Putting these texts to the side, we are left with three references, all of which unequivocally condemn homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 states the principle: "You [masculine] shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." The second (Lev. 20:13) adds the penalty: "If a man lies with a male as a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them."
I'm too lazy to keep up any further.. i have to translate everything...
I forgot. Yes, you must love them, but love doesn't make it right.

Now I have only questions.
Why when people say: Homosexual, they mean only males? Why do they use the word "lesbian" for females. They're all homosexuals!!!! Male-male or female-female is homo. I don't think there's a need to specify which is which. I can't help but think the word "jerk" when I say: She's gay, and I get a "you mean lesbian?" in response. Yes!, she is homosexual...

I think it's got more to do with in which context you use it.
People tend to say she is a lesbian, rather than she is a gay/whatever. Then people don't say she is lesbian.
Sorry if that didn't make sense, i'm not functioning properly atm.

I didn't mean that in a homosexual way. I meant to say that even the people who say, I hate fags, are being hypocrites because we are supposed to love each other like brothes and sisters in Christ. Not like I was saying the bible supported homosexuality, because I know it doesn't.

I forgot. Yes, you must love them, but love doesn't make it right.

i think that love is one of the greatest things for a person to feel (tho it can be painful) and if you are lucky to find love it shouldnt matter who its with. i dont t hink being anything other than straight is wrong. i do not think that is the way things were intended to be, given that only a man and woman can reproduce. but i dont think its wrong. and as far as those class discussions go: every one has a right to an opinion BUT they should be able to express it with out being rude or hurtful. My mom used to be friends with a gay guy who was over at our house all the time when i was younger and just like year i found out she was gay when i over heard her on the phone. otherwise i woulda never known. gays bi's les. trany they're all people and deserve the same respect every one else gets.

Human beings, by nature must be, "pansexual" (from the Greek, Pan = all) a complete sexual person. We all possess various sexual possibilities generally classified as heterosexual, homosexual, bi-sexual, autoerotic, fetishist, sado-masochistic, etc. These tendencies in our nature can come out at any time, according to the development of each individual. Children are born polimorphoperverse; the curiosity of discovery leads them to play with their mothers, touch their genitals, masturbate and investigate their excretia. Later, as they develop, they play games of "doctor" as they explore the bodies and functions of their friends. All this is perfectly natural.
During puberty their ambivalence is natural and undeniable as they adapt to life as an adult.
The term "pansexuality" exists already, but with a different meaning to that which I apply to it, indicating the concept to which sexual instinct is the basis of all human behaviour (Freud).
It is important not to repress any of our pansexuality and to live it
freely, using good sense. The repression and banning of natural instinct creates frustration, often resulting in antisocial and violent behaviour.
Definition of pansexuality:
Pansexuality includes all kinds of sexuality that can exist in a human
being, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual, transgender, heterosexual,
tendencies that may prevail either permanently or occasionally.
The word Pansexualism is explained by Professor Haeberle in his Critical Dictionary in the following way:
"Pansexualism. (sometimes also "pansexuality". From gr. "pan": all) All-embracing sexual love. An attitude or a philosophy which is based on the belief that the human sexual potential can and should be directed towards everybody and everything. At one time, the term "pansexualism" was also used for the theory that all human behavior is somehow sexually motivated. This theory is no longer considered valid. Today the terms "pansexualism" and "pansexuality" are often employed by certain advocates of sexual liberation who want to convey the idea that the present sexual and gender roles of men and women are too confining, and that, therefore, an all-embracing sexuality should accept the entire spectrum of sexual orientations and deliberately ignore all other conventional distinctions."
The Theory of Pansexuality is best understood not in absolute but in relative terms, just as the biological sex and the gender roles.
From the observation of human sexual behaviour we learned that femaleness and maleness, femininity and masculinity, homosexuality and heterosexuality are a question of degree.
Today people talk too easily about hetero-, homo-, and bi-sexuality without realizing the overlapping qualities of the different categories.

Do you think it's right for people to not be straight?
Do you think that people should be allowed to say negative things about it, such as in class discussions?
I've been in a few classes where we've been discussing sexual orientation and I got quite hurt by the things some people were saying about gay/bi people as they were being really mean.
So what are your views on any of this?
ye i belive it's ok to have alternitve orenatition. you can be anything you want and i won't bat and eye lid. as long as you don't hurt anyone. which is why i don't like pedophillia, even though you are born with that deire as well i cannot advocate it because it hurts people. but now, as a a scociety, we allow people to express almost any desire they please, to me this is good. there was a time, not so long ago, when it would have been a crime to be gay.
scocetiy is opressive. stright people used to be largely homophobic, though not today. it is this stigma that remins today and which makes you ask these questions. rasisim is similar, people started seem other races as "not human" beacuse it was easier to sell them as slaves if they didn't have feelings. these things stay with us as a scociety. in an ideal world, to me, you wouldn't ask things like this becuase it would be taken for granted that you have freedom to be what you want, so long as you hurt no one.
yes, you should be allowed to say negitive things about it. that's the very same right as you have to say postivie things about it. people can say what they want about anything. look at the Phelps, shocking horrific people, who i'd happily hang draw and quarter. but they can sya whatever they want, we all can. it's fiar wither you like what's being said or not.
ye, it's annoying sometimes, but anyone who slags you for it isn't worth your time. trust me. homophobia, it's bad in scotland. people spread it to thier children, people round here call anything that's bad or unusual "Gay" and in america i know a common insult is "Fag" and ye, it seems harmless, but in reality it spreas homophobia.
that's the nature of, we just have to live with it.

I agree with the first paragraph.
The second, I disagree with. Homosexuality is accepted more into society now than it used to be, however people are more homophobic now, it hasn't decreased.
Third, no you shouldn't be allowed to say negative things. In your secong paragraph you said that being homophobic was the same as being racist which I agree with but then you've just said that people should be allowed to make homophobic comments in society but they're not allowed to make racist ones.
Finally, I totally agree.

I believe that even if people don't have the same views as us they shouldn't be suppressed I mean look at what happened when African American rights were suppressed. Do we really need something like that to happen again? No. Do we all have to be all happy and peaceful, not really. Should we allow people to let their hearts lead them? Most definately, I mean there are lots of nice people who are not straight, like Nickoli, she's one of our moderators, and she's one of the nicest people I've ever met! I really think people talking badly about other people because of who they choose to love is like picking on someone because they don't have a brand new car every three years.

ye that pisses me off to. some stright guys are incedibly hurtful and arrogant when it comes to that. however... not all.
but the thing is that you CAN say almost anything you like. so can say rasict, hateful things and preach them on the street, but you won't be done unless you accully 1) say things that aren't ture (ie slander) 2) cause someone physical harm.
look at the phelps, as i said. i'd happly shoot them all (... in the feet) but they are free to say whatever they want and i just have to live with that. if i took away thier right to say what they want, i'd have to take away my right to complain about them. freedom of speech.
moreover, i'd agree with you in that there's a lot of homophobia about, even amoung girls (which surprised me). it does make me shy to talk to people about it, so i just keep people in the dark mostly, esp guys i know. like i said, it's just the type of thing that gets passed down throught generations.

I'm not sure if we're talking about different things here, but you are not allowed to be racist!
If a student makes a racist comment in a class with a student of a different race in it, they will get punished because it is socially not allowed.
However if someone makes a homophobic comment, in a class with someone who is gay/bi in it, nothing will be done about it.
I've experienced this and it's not nice, it made me so angry.
Does this happen just because you can't tell someones orientation just by looking at them, so people think that they can say what they want, possibly. It shouldn't be different though.

to me that's not racist. but if i said:

if i said:

that may or may not be true, you can't tell by looking. but here it would be seen as as insult, reguarless of if it were true or not. so you have a point there. people associte being gay with bad things usually. like i said, it's just passed down to children who are too young to understand and they keep doing it.

Well where I am, saying 'James is black' in a class would be seen as racist and you would get wrong for it.
If people make comments about someones sexuality, they are usualy negative comments. What I was saying is that should you be allowed to say 'James is gay' or 'I don't like gays' just because you can't tell if a person is gay. you might be offending someone, you might not but just because you can't tell, doesn't mean you can still say it.

it's only offensive to say someone is balck because the UN made it that way. people used to call them "niggers" and they were happy with that. things that are offensive change. to me "Black" shouldn't be offensive, but i can see why it is. around here people will say "that's black, or this is black". but if you look at it that way anything can be made offensive.
i don't know, this is a headbanger. sex and sexuallity are still somthing people are wary to talk about; it's still a bit taboo in certin places.
i don't want to argue with you, you're right; it is hurtful. it's cruel if people are delibertly attacking your sexuallity, but if it annoys you all you can do is complain about it. but people get attcked for everything... people can be cruel.

Well I was in a clas where we discuss current issues and things. We were doing about homosexuality.
The teacher went to the board and asked people to say what cam to their head when she said homosexual. I don't even want to repeat what people were saying it was awful. Then the teacher mention bisexual and it was even worse. Some girl said that it was greedy, she knew that someone in the class was bisexual but because no-one else could tell, she could say whatever she wanted to.
Then later we watched a video about africans, people in the class were saying offensive things, the teacher stopped them and told them off, someone even got sent out for saying something racist.
Do you see what I'm saying about the way it's different when people are being offensive about someones sexuality then when they are about their race.

No, the teacher wasn't embarrased or anything, the class gets along great with her.
What I'm saying is that just because you can't tell someones sexuality, doesn't make it right to say something about it.
Also I'm not lucky either. To have to sit in a classroom with everyone in the class (minus me and my friend) throwing around insults about people being bi when at that point I was almost certain that I was bi. And then having a girl who knew that I was, saying one of the worst things ever and then giving me a sly look after she said it. That's not lucky. It would have been luckier if the whole class knew my sexuality because they might have thought twice about what insults they shouted.
